Book Description

December 30, 2005
Secret Service Agent Cameron Roberts made a promise to Blair Powell, the President's daughter--not to place her own life in danger protecting Blair--but a request from the Commander in Chief forces her to break her word. In this sequel to Above All, Honor, Cameron places duty before love and accepts reassignment as the chief of Blair's security detail, despite knowing that this decision may destroy their tenuous new relationship. As the rift between them widens, more than one woman is happy to offer Blair the company that Cam cannot.

Amidst political intrigue, an escalating threat to Blair's safety, and the seemingly irreconcilable personal differences that force them ever further apart, these two unusual women struggle to find their way back

5.0 out of 5 stars A tale of the morning after..., June 12, 2003
By
Hiraeth (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor Bound (Paperback)
In HONOR BOUND, Radclyffe continues the romantic saga of Cameron Roberts and Blair Powell, introduced in ABOVE ALL, HONOR. When Blair's stalker -- whose bullet nearly ended Cam's life -- resurfaces, the president himself recalls Cameron to her previous duty as commander of the Secret Service detail protecting the first daughter. Although she fears that Blair will never forgive her for once again putting her life on the line to protect Blair, Cam accepts the detail, only to find herself -- and Blair -- enmeshed in a tangle of inter-agency politics that place their lives, and their love, at risk.

Radclyffe has rapidly become recognized as the most exciting, skilled, and erotic writer of lesbian romance of the new century. In HONOR BOUND, her first-ever sequel, she pushes the traditional bounds of romance fiction. Instead of ending the story with the lovers getting together, here she explores what happens the morning after: how do two strong women combine their very separate lives to build a life together? This story is brilliantly plotted, sizzlingly erotic, and romantic as only Radclyffe can conjure. Read it today -- and then continue the saga of Cam and Blair in LOVE & HONOR, the third book of the series.

An excellent continuation of the story started in "Above All, Honor," the author does what she can in the beginning to contrive a situation where the relationship between Cam and Blair takes a bit of a step back into the area of conflict as Cam is reassigned as Blair's security chief. I think that Radclyffe does an excellent job at further developing the characters and their motivations, so that even while you may be a bit frustrated with actions and reactions they take, further keeping them apart, you understand them. This sequel really goes a long way towards deepening their relationship, with is something that is interesting to read, versus the typical "will they ever get together?" romance.

While I really enjoy this series, the writing is still clearly early Radclyffe: above average, but not up to her present standard. I noticed it, but it wasn't detrimental. And it's the characters that really carry the book, a strength of this author's. It's entertaining to read as Blair and Cam dance around their feelings for one another, while being irresistably affected physically by each other. There are real reasons for their denial, and their fighting against the inevitable helps make it seem more precious and realistic at the end.

I like the bits with Cameron and the loyalty and competence of her Secret Service team. I like the joy Blair takes in her art. It's fun to read about people who don't know where they're going, but it's nice to have books like this too, where the main characters have a clear and defined purpose in their lives, and then risk that security in order to be with one another. There's angst, hurt-comfort, mortal danger and pure romance, and the whole situation with Blair and her Stalker is brought to a satisfying conclusion, while the groundwork is clearly laid for some sort of ongoing plot that will likely be expanded upon in the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, February 9, 2006

This review is from: Honor Bound (Paperback)
Once again, Radclyffe delivers a phenomenal story. This second book in her Honor series can't be beat. In this reader's opinion, this is her best series and is best enjoyed in quick succession... Pick up all 5 books, start with the first and work your way through!

In 'Honor Bound,' Secret Service Agent Cameron Roberts finds herself once again assigned to protect First Daughter Blair Powell. Blair is livid about this arrangement for several reasons. First, she doesn't want Cam protecting her because Cam almost died at the end of the last book. Secondly, Blair and Cam finally consummated their relationship after months of build-up... now with Cam as her security chief that relationship is once again put on hold.

Cam has been brought in to work with the FBI in their quest to capture Lover Boy - Blair's stalker who shot Cam in 'Above All, Honor' and is still at large. Neither woman knows how to handle their feelings which conflict with their responsibilities.

I freely admit Rad is my favorite, but this is genuinely a great book. I read a lot of lesbian fiction and, with the exception of book 5 which I've read once, have read and enjoyed this series three times.

A must have. No collection of lesbian fiction is complete without this book.
