5.0 out of 5 stars A tale of the morning after..., June 12, 2003
By
Hiraeth (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor Bound (Paperback)
In HONOR BOUND, Radclyffe continues the romantic saga of Cameron Roberts and Blair Powell, introduced in ABOVE ALL, HONOR. When Blair's stalker -- whose bullet nearly ended Cam's life -- resurfaces, the president himself recalls Cameron to her previous duty as commander of the Secret Service detail protecting the first daughter. Although she fears that Blair will never forgive her for once again putting her life on the line to protect Blair, Cam accepts the detail, only to find herself -- and Blair -- enmeshed in a tangle of inter-agency politics that place their lives, and their love, at risk.

Radclyffe has rapidly become recognized as the most exciting, skilled, and erotic writer of lesbian romance of the new century. In HONOR BOUND, her first-ever sequel, she pushes the traditional bounds of romance fiction. Instead of ending the story with the lovers getting together, here she explores what happens the morning after: how do two strong women combine their very separate lives to build a life together? This story is brilliantly plotted, sizzlingly erotic, and romantic as only Radclyffe can conjure. Read it today -- and then continue the saga of Cam and Blair in LOVE & HONOR, the third book of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another riveting entry into the Honor series, March 28, 2008

An excellent continuation of the story started in "Above All, Honor," the author does what she can in the beginning to contrive a situation where the relationship between Cam and Blair takes a bit of a step back into the area of conflict as Cam is reassigned as Blair's security chief. I think that Radclyffe does an excellent job at further developing the characters and their motivations, so that even while you may be a bit frustrated with actions and reactions they take, further keeping them apart, you understand them. This sequel really goes a long way towards deepening their relationship, with is something that is interesting to read, versus the typical "will they ever get together?" romance.

While I really enjoy this series, the writing is still clearly early Radclyffe: above average, but not up to her present standard. I noticed it, but it wasn't detrimental. And it's the characters that really carry the book, a strength of this author's. It's entertaining to read as Blair and Cam dance around their feelings for one another, while being irresistably affected physically by each other. There are real reasons for their denial, and their fighting against the inevitable helps make it seem more precious and realistic at the end.

I like the bits with Cameron and the loyalty and competence of her Secret Service team. I like the joy Blair takes in her art. It's fun to read about people who don't know where they're going, but it's nice to have books like this too, where the main characters have a clear and defined purpose in their lives, and then risk that security in order to be with one another. There's angst, hurt-comfort, mortal danger and pure romance, and the whole situation with Blair and her Stalker is brought to a satisfying conclusion, while the groundwork is clearly laid for some sort of ongoing plot that will likely be expanded upon in the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, February 9, 2006

Once again, Radclyffe delivers a phenomenal story. This second book in her Honor series can't be beat. In this reader's opinion, this is her best series and is best enjoyed in quick succession... Pick up all 5 books, start with the first and work your way through!

In 'Honor Bound,' Secret Service Agent Cameron Roberts finds herself once again assigned to protect First Daughter Blair Powell. Blair is livid about this arrangement for several reasons. First, she doesn't want Cam protecting her because Cam almost died at the end of the last book. Secondly, Blair and Cam finally consummated their relationship after months of build-up... now with Cam as her security chief that relationship is once again put on hold.

Cam has been brought in to work with the FBI in their quest to capture Lover Boy - Blair's stalker who shot Cam in 'Above All, Honor' and is still at large. Neither woman knows how to handle their feelings which conflict with their responsibilities.

I freely admit Rad is my favorite, but this is genuinely a great book. I read a lot of lesbian fiction and, with the exception of book 5 which I've read once, have read and enjoyed this series three times.

A must have. No collection of lesbian fiction is complete without this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sex, crime, more sex... and still a page turner!, May 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't know how the author manages to do it, because when you step back and look at it just about every other page is a sex scene. But somehow the plot moves along too and pulls you in enough that you are also eager to find out what's going to happen. The characters are developped just enough to make you care about them, but mostly the book is action (of one form or another).

An enjoyable read!

4.0 out of 5 stars plot thickens, November 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Honor Bound (Paperback)
"honor bound" delivers on a lot of the promise that i felt "above all, honor" fell short on.

the characters appear to have a bit more depth and the plot, although hastily concluded, is more well rounded. there are more intimate moments between the two lead characters (and that is never a bad thing).

i look forward to reading the rest of the series and following the development of the plotline as well as what is now a budding relationship."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, December 23, 2008

Read the first book, Above all Honor, and this is a great follow up. I have to say the first novel is the strongest but for lesbian romance, this is definitely a strong series. Especially for those who are fond of political intrigue. The only thing that seems a bit over handed are the cheesy love scenes. I mean they do the job, in terms of a steamy sex scene, but the rhetoric Radclyffe uses is sometimes campy, and at its worst, REALLY cheesy, But thats okay, what great trashy lesbian fiction wouldn't be campy!

In the end, this is a great sequel and not a bad way to pass a few hours. Get it. Also try the rest of the series. You might laugh at the constant soap like drama these two ladies go through, but overall, entertaining stuff.

After I read the first book I could not wait to read the second, and I was not disappointed. This is a wonderful book. I would recommend it, as well as the rest in the series.

What do you do when you have the headstrong daughter of the President of the United States and a headstrong head of her security detail?

A lot of head butting and disagreeing, but the love the two characters have for each other overrides all others.

This is again and action pack novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Bound to Please Readers, June 20, 2006

Secret Agent Cameron Roberts is responsible for the safety of the President's daughter. She takes her assignment very serious, indeed. The fact that she is romatically involved with the first daughter adds to her wanting Blair kept safe.

Whether you read Radclyffe's series books or you read one of her stand-alone romances, you can not go wrong.

I have been reading lesbian fiction for many years, and can honestly say that I have never come across a writer that has so affected me. Her characters are strong, intelligent, and romantic. Naysayers will say that Radclyffe's characters are too perfect almost never flawed - either in looks or character. That may be true, but aren't you tired of the genre's penchant for ordinary? Radclyffe's characters are always enchanting, intoxicating, enticing, and intense. The stories, particularly in the series books, are all first class. Most of her series books are page-turners. And in two of the books, I actually turned to the last page to make sure that the main characters survived - something I never do.

Radclyffe let us believe, at least for the duration of each of her books, that the grand passion, the true love, the happy-ever-after are all possible. She lets us believe that being a strong, intelligent woman does not mean that we will be alone and/or isolated.

The only caveat I have is to read the series books in order. And if you enjoy watching a writer grow, then read the non-series books in the order they were written and watch Radclyffe's talent grow before your very eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Radclyffe read!, March 2, 2003
By
Steph K. (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor Bound (Paperback)
I remain continually impressed by Radclyffe. This stands head and shoulders above many books I've found in this "genre."

This is her first true sequel (I believe), and she handles it with ease. It's not redundant or forced but rather truely follows the continuing experiences of Cam and Blair.
Her strong characterizations still power the storyline and spill over as some of the minor characters are further developed.

It's quality storytelling that balances Action, Intrigue and Emotional honesty. While it can stand alone as an engrossing read, it's only ten times better if you've read "Above All, Honor."
