While you're reading "Honor Killing," one side of your brain says, "Nah, this could never happen." But simultaneously, the other side of your brain says, "Oh, yes it can." It is a rare book that can make yor head do that. Admittedly, I'm of the "yes it can" persuasion and have read Timmerman's non-fiction, but the novel is excellent reading for both sides. He plumbs post-9-11 interagency rivalry and technology in the hands of the bad guys (the good guys rely more on luck and dedication). The bad guys are REALLY scary because they are thoughtful and careful -- Timmerman has history here and it shows. The good guys might be just a little "too good" and a little too good looking. Neither side of your brain will want to put the book down until the end.

The "bones" of this effort by a fine non-fiction writer, is almost lost in the laugh inducing plethora of major errors regarding almost all aspects of this story involving weapons. "Clips" "rammed" into revolvers and safeties taken off weapons that are not equiped with them, as well as individual ownership and usage of suppressors(silencers)and selection of Bulgarian pistols, scorned by almost anyone except for lower level gangbangers for personal use by implied Spec Ops types; scream for Mr.Timmerman to please, please buy a local weapons savvy policeman or Agent a drink and simply ask what is real and what is story ruining.

Several times, I came close to deep sixing this book, because of the not so subtle insinuation of religion into the story, where it clearly does not belong, and blatant errors involving guns. (Loose rounds for an auto pistol? I dont think so.)
Thirty four years of law enforcement allows me to utilize these comments.
Ten years of active military service acts as an underpining for them as well.
I will give a pass on Mr.Timmermans next work and save myself some inappropriate laughs.

Oh sure, it's a good story, and oh sure, it's a fun one-evening read, but the reviewer who complained about technical errors just scratched the surface. I have never seen so many errors in ordinary English spelling and grammar as this book has---it has never seen a copy-editor. From needing a peak [peek?] at a document to suffering a balling [bawling?] out by his boss, it wouldn't get past English 1A at any decent school. I found about twenty before I stopped counting. All the misspellings are real words, so they pass, but they are the wrong words, and spell checkers don't know the difference.

The book tells of a plot to set of a nuclear device in Washington DC.

Considering the instability in the mid-east, that one country (Pakistan) has nuclear weapons and another (Iran) is on the verge of getting them, the hatred for the United States, the activities of the terrorists it is entirely conceivable that there will be an attempt to mount a nuclear attack on the U.S.

Do remember that Presidential Candidate Michelle Bachman did say that there have been 6 attempts by terrorists in Pakistan to gain control of some nukes in Pakistan. She knwos this from her position n the Intelligence Committee.

Ken Timmerman's warnings are prescient.

The title of this book is "Honor Killing", not "Hon Killing". Maybe Amazon could correct that on their website.
