From the Inside Flap

Bridal Veil Island, Georgia
1913

Callie Deboyer arrives at Bridal Veil Island to spend the winter working as a governess for the Bridgeport family. However, she finds she can't fully enjoy the beautiful resort because questions about her future weigh heavily on her mind: Should she continue in this job she enjoys, or is God calling her to join her parents in their missionary work?

When she enrolls young Thomas Bridgeport in golf lessons, Callie meets instructor Wesley Townsend, who urges Callie to take lessons, as well. During their time together, Callie comes to care for Wes--until she discovers that he's been hiding something very important from her.

Then expensive pieces go missing from various homes around the island, and suspicion is aimed in Callie's direction. Callie wonders if this is a sign she should leave it all behind and join her parents in Africa. Considering Wesley's deceit, will he ever be a man she can honor and trust for the rest of her life? --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

To Honor and Trust is a historical romance which takes readers into the lives of both the wealthy and the working class of people in 1913. The setting, an integral part of the story, is a winter resort for affluent families.

I was very interested in reading this book, as I love the weather and romance of the islands along the Eastern coast and I have a keen interest in the history of the early 20th century. This Bridal Veil Island novel more than lived up to my anticipation.

The contrast of expectations and outlook between those who are moneyed and those employed by them was what I enjoyed the most in the story. Callie Deboyer is the one person who is able to bridge the gap between the classes, as she grew up in a privileged home, but is now the private teacher to the Bridgeport family.

The story follows the lives of Callie and Wesley Townsend as they struggle with important decisions. Should grown children acquiesce to their parents' expectations? Where should people draw the line of loyalty to family and friends? Is God really interested in our day to day living? How do we choose between living a life of material wealth and a life that might be more personally fulfilling? Is it safe to trust again, when you've found disappointment and hurt in a past relationship?

There is also a bit of mystery in the book--missing people and missing jewelry--which adds intrigue to the story.

I enjoyed To Honor and Trust. I felt very satisfied upon finishing the book. I was happy things worked out as they did.

I enjoyed this story! It was good to see someone not wanting to be rich but to serve the Lord. To have a meaningful life that made a difference in other people's lives.

To Honor and Trust is the third book in The Bridal Veil Island Series written by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller. Callie DeBoyer is a governess for The Bridgeport family and has come with them to Bridal Veil Island. While there she receives a letter from her parents in Africa as missionaries asking for her help. Callie is torn on what to do and her reasons for doing it. Callie signs up Thomas for golf lessons and is encouraged by the teacher to enroll too. As she takes lessons she starts to have feelings for the instructor. Soon expensive things go missing on the island from different homes and things are pointing in Callie's direction. Will she go to Africa to escape this persecution?

To Honor and Trust maybe the third book in this series but its the first one I read. When I first requested this book from Bethany House I didn't realize that there were two previous books in the series until after the fact. I have had the pleasure of reading books by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller separately and was so excited to read one they wrote together. This story has suspense, romance, and comedy. I found myself laughing and crying throughout this book. These authors intertwined their writing styles to give readers one fluid novel. I loved that it is one story with two authors. The characters are great in this story. I enjoyed all of them. As I stated I hadn't read the first two books in this series and I don't feel like I missed anything. I plan on reading the first two books but I really felt it could be read as a stand alone. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Christian Fiction, you will not be disappointed! I am excited to read more books written by these two authors together! They ROCK! I give this book 4.5 STARS.

I have somehow missed the Bridal Veil Island series in the past. I'm not for sure how because it's written by two authors that I really enjoy reading. I'm glad to say, though, that I am now a proud owner of all the books in this series as I found them at a discounted store and happily bought them. This was such a good book to read, especially with Valentine's Day coming up and the extra emphasis being put on love.

I felt swept away in time while reading this book. I love books that I can pick up and immediately feel so relaxed by reading it. I was taken back in time to the 1900s and transplanted into the problems between the wealthy and the middle class.

I felt like Wesley and Callie were discussing very real issues that were prevalent at that time. The dialogue flowed so easily, just as a normal discussion would.

The thing that amazes me about books with more than one author is how you can never tell where one author has left off and another has picked up. I think that takes a lot of talent and cooperation to pull off. Job well done, ladies, because I couldn't tell at all!

I hope these two authors write more together. Until then, I'm off to read the other two books in this series that I found.

I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.

Callie Deboyer is employed by the Bridgeport family as a tutor for their children. She is spending the winter at Bridal Veil Island with the family and should have plenty of time to enjoy herself. Her goal: make some decisions about her future. Mrs. Bridgeport's goal: find a husband for Callie. The problem: Callie doesn't want a husband.

Since Callie's fiance left her to marry another woman, she has found it difficult to trust men and has decided she is better off without one. Besides, she has far too much to think about this winter without a man to complicate things. While she is happy as a tutor to the Bridgeport family, she has been offered a teaching position in Chicago and her parents, missionaries in Africa, would also like her to join them. She is praying about what God wants her to do, but hasn't yet found clarity.

Mrs. Bridgeport has arranged for her son, Thomas and Callie to participate in tennis and golf lessons for the season. Callie enjoys spending time with the unpretentious golf instructor and he readily joins her and the children on various outings. They grow to care for each other, but when Callie discovers that Wesley has been deceiving her, will she be able to forgive him?

Wesley has a few problems of his own. His hard-to-please father has his own list of expectations for Wesley's life, but they hardly match Wesley's aspirations. Will they be able to resolve their issues or will there forever be tension between them? What is Wesley supposed to be doing with his life? Has he wasted his education and his father's investments?

Mrs. Murphy, the unkempt new employee arrives at the Bridgeport residence and assumes her responsibilities as nanny.
