5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional romance with a charming hint of mystery, March 20, 2007
This review is from: An Honorable Man (Harlequin American Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Priscilla Garner tries to fit in with the guys at Firehouse 59 as she works through her probationary year as a firefighter. Fortunately, her buddies, Tony and Ethan support her because many of the firefighters still resent a woman in their midst. Despite a rich debutante upbrining, firefighting is her passion and she's going to make it work--especially since she'll never be able to have children. Because she'll never be able to have children, she also knows that she'll never be able to be more than a fling for a guy but when she runs into sexy arson investigator, Roark--again--after a suspicious fire, she has to remind herself of all the reasons to stay away.

Priscilla and Roark shared a very brief affair while Priscilla was in the academy, but Priscilla pulled away and doesn't want to set herself up for the heartbreak that a relationship would be. She's even more convinced she's right when she sees Roark with his nephews and nieces--and can't help but observe how much he loves surrounding himself with children. Roark needs a woman who can give him the family he needs, and Priscilla can never be that woman.

Unfortunately for her peace of mind, arson investigation and Priscilla's interfering buddies end up steering her and Roark together all too often. And Priscilla's hormones are definitely fully functional no matter what might be wrong with the rest of her body. It just isn't fair to ask a woman to continue denying herself when someone as sexy as Roark is actively pursuing her.

Author Kara Lennox concludes her Firehouse 59 series with Priscilla's story. Lennox blends strong emotion with just a hint of mystery and a super-sexy hero to cook up a powerful romance. Priscilla, with her combination of independence and determination to overcome her physical limitations makes a sympathetic heroine while Roark, intelligent, rich, and strong, is a hero to fall for. Here's hoping that there will be more Firehouse 59 stories in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars delightful Firehouse 59 romance, March 8, 2007
This review is from: An Honorable Man (Harlequin American Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Dallas, Priscilla Garner wants to prove to the previously all male firefighting force at Station 59 that she is their equal. However, she is a bit concerned about her history with firefighter Roark Epperson as both felt the heat and lost control of everything but one another. Still that was six months ago before she joined this station; she is positive they can behave professionally together.

Roark is delighted to have Priscilla back in his life even as an aloof teammate as he fell in love with her before she abruptly ended their relationship. He assumes her departure is connected to their firefighting careers, but he hopes to prove to her they can have both. His opportunity surfaces when her matchmaking mama wants to provide her an escort to a relative's wedding; she asks Roark to take her though she insists it as friends not lovers. He agrees as he believes this is the chance to prove he loves her.

This is a delightful Firehouse 59 romance (see THE FAMILY RESCUE and HER PERFECT HERO) starring two likable protagonists whose firefighting careers bring them together yet keeps them apart. Priscilla's reasoning is sound as she tries to prove she can fight fires on the front lines and be more than a cook as the lone female at this station. Roark's logic is also solid as he believes she make it as a firefighter and as his lifetime beloved. Kara Lennox keeps the heat on with this charming second chance at love tale.
