Book Description

January 1, 2003
a collection of women's stories

miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy termination, stillbirth, neonatal death, infant death

I wanted so desperately to find even just one woman who tried to dig up her baby from his grave... just one other woman who was filled with anger, abandonment and isolation... just one other woman, well... who fought to get through this journey from hell and who refused to bury her child a second time, with her silence.

I found more than one. This book is those women’s stories.

About the Author

Paula Long is a mother to two living children, four miscarried babies, and Kadin, her son who was born still at term. During her darkest grief, she created a support and resource organization to find other women to talk with. Yearning for a book that allowed women to share their "entire stories," she decided to create that book herself. Thus, Honored Babies, both the web site organization and the book, was born. Paula refuses to be silent about not only her stillborn son, but also stands as an advocate and an ally to other mothers who also refuse to be silent and silenced.

After the death of my daughter I needed to know that others had the same feelings I did...I found that in this book. Each story touched me and made me feel connected to the author since we had experienced the similar tragedy of losing a child. The stories are vivid and real. I cried with the authors through every one of their stories.
I recommend this book for all women who can't sleep and need some immediate comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars You are not alone., July 10, 2006

I wrote one of the stories in this book. I was amazed after reading the other stories how similar all of our feelings are when we lose a baby. It brought such comfort to know that what I was thinking and feeling was normal and it didn't matter if everyone else thought I should be 'over it' by now. If you or someone you know has lost a baby, this is the book to read. The stories and feelings have alot of commonalities, but each story also brings something new to the book. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honored Babies reminds us that every life matters, December 5, 2009
This review is from: Honored Babies: Learning To Live With a Broken Heart (Paperback)
I am a contributing author to this book and was honored to be included in its pages. It is amazing to me that after almost 8 years (and three children) since my own loss I still step into pockets of unexpected grief. Wondering what my son would look like or be interested in is still a frequent occurrence - writing this submission helped me moved through the acute pain that was debilitating at the time. Now, those thoughts are a warm reminder that he was here. I hope women who need to know that they are not alone find this book, read it, and then pass it along to another mom who needs support.
