5.0 out of 5 stars A sequel worth waiting for....
Book three was even better than the first two! Kristen Heitzmann takes you to new heights of emotions and just when you think you have it figured out...well, you will be waiting with baited breath for number 4! A moving story of pioneer strength, God's mercies and healing power.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ruined My "Kristen Heitzmann" Experience!!!
I'll keep it short. If you don't want to read all about tragedy (suffering, pain, death, etc.) don't read this book... or this series... or this author!

This was my second adventure into Kristen Heitzmann books... let me just say that I was up at 2 am trying to finish this book when I ran into the most horrible thing an author can do to her/his character...

4.0 out of 5 stars Marching to a different drum, August 13, 2001
When I first started reading this book I thought it was good and interesting, but nothing major was really happening. Then about 3/4 of the way through I was completely shocked at the turn of events. I just sat there staring at the pages in complete disbelief that this author had the courage to do something this extreme and drastic. Now, obviously I can't tell you what she did, but I can tell you that it will make your eyes glued to the pages until the end of the book. This is an awesome series to read. I just started the fourth book and the plot makes your heart race starting from the first few pages. You won't regret reading this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Story Continues, Story Improves, Best yet to come?, December 15, 2006

Heitzmann's good. Anyone who can pull off a decent book with characters named "Monte" is top-notch. Anyways, the series started a bit slow, but who'd have thought so much trouble could find one poor woman.? The surprise, heartwrenching twist in the middle, is excellently rendered and all over lovely. While the main character then turns to emotional mush, it's so realistic, it's excellent storytelling. Abbie'll dig deep to find herself...but will she ever open her poor heart again?

5.0 out of 5 stars This series continues to improve and inspire., November 18, 2004

Abbie and Monte are happy, awaiting the birth of their first child when tragedy strikes. Just how much can this little family stand? Abbie forgets what she learned early in life about God and becomes a completely different person. The ranch must survive, but how, with all the past calamities and now typhoid fever? Follow the developement of certain characters as the author spellbinds the reader with unforeseen disasters and miracles, surprises and brings tears and laughter to the reader. If book 4 gets any better, someone will have to create more stars for a rating. Way to go with an historical, Christian fiction book from the early days of Colorado settlers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm really into this series!!, July 30, 2001
This book is very well-written,and with a surprising plot. I was totally surprised at the events in this story. Kristen Heitzmann really likes to catch you off guard. I'm not going to give any of it away but believe me you'll be surprised like I was. Great character development and I can feel myself being sucked right into the characters'lives. I like surprises and Kristen Heitzmann didn't disappoint me with hers. I don't like books that are too predictable and same old boring plotline. Read it! You won't be disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ruined My "Kristen Heitzmann" Experience!!!, July 26, 2010
I'll keep it short. If you don't want to read all about tragedy (suffering, pain, death, etc.) don't read this book... or this series... or this author!

This was my second adventure into Kristen Heitzmann books... let me just say that I was up at 2 am trying to finish this book when I ran into the most horrible thing an author can do to her/his character. Yeah, take a wild guess. I was completely shocked and horrified. Stupid move on the author's part. But if you should happen to put yourself through the torture of reading these books, you'll see what I mean.

Yes, Heitzmann has good books to offer, but they are all laced with such pain and suffering that I find myself so depressed I cannot stand it when I finish her books. The happy endings that do rarely occur do not make up for the suffering and despair you've experienced through the entire book with her characters. Life is harsh, I don't need to read about someone who has it five million times worse - that just makes me more depressed.... I'm just saying. Read at your own risk.

The ONLY series or books of hers that I can recommend is her "Diamond of the Rockies" series. It is the exception to her depressing works, though there is a bit of pain & suffering involved there too. It's a trade off. Your choice.
