The Scriptues declare that the way we treat others is the way we treat Jesus Himself. If we honor others, we honor Jesus.

The Bible also states that if we honor others in Christ name we will be honored ourself. The blessings of God rest upon one who honors others.

This book explains why and how to honor others in all type of relationships from church, marriage, work, family, and government.

It really helped me realize that dishonor is rampant in our society and how it is not to be the norm for a believer. It encouraged me to do a better job in honoring others which in turn improved my life.

This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
An absolutely brilliant book! We have lots of John's books and love them all, but this has got to be the best!! As a pastor myself, this book will revolutionise the church in the Western World. We have already bought copies for all our key leaders. Very much needed in these times. Everything pertaining to God is holy and sacred, including his church, his leaders and his people.... and this book speaks to a lot of the familiarity and carnality in the western church. Well done John!! Thank you for honouring God like you do...and thanks for helping restore the word that a lot of kiwis find so hard to do...."honour". Growth of the NZ church depends on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Important for receiving God's blessings., January 18, 2008

This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
I am loving this book! He really explains things well. He uses personal examples that God has shown him throughout his time in ministry and, more importantly, he uses God's Word. He has opened my eyes, in a new way, to the Honor that God demands and why. My husband and I are reading it together, I bought a copy for my sister, and I hope my church will consider this book for our Sunday School study in the near future. I'm thankful for God's inspiration on John to write this book, and thankful God opened my eyes to it. By with holding Honor where Honor is due, according to God, we cause God's blessings to be withheld form our lives. In turn, if we give Honor where Honor is due we are open to receive God's blessings on our life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, December 17, 2007
This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
I have read several of Bevere's books and quite honestly, I suggest you read them all! Honor's Reward reveals what the Word of God says regarding the rewards that are in store for us when we obey His Word! I don't know about you...but I want everything that God has for me...and nothing He doesn't want me to have. Amazing revelations contained in this book and God has truly allowed John Bevere to relay these to us.

5.0 out of 5 stars A healthy reminder to honor everyone you come into contact with and to love your neighbor as yourself, July 14, 2008
By
FaithfulReader.com (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
Some leaders are naturally better skilled and equipped than others, but according to John Bevere, all people in authority need to be honored --- no matter who they are or how they lead. In HONOR'S REWARD, the bestselling author of THE FEAR OF THE LORD and DRIVEN BY ETERNITY, argues that how you value, respect and treat others determines your reward with God. He uses scripture to explain why honoring those in authority is essential to finding God's favor and blessing in your life.

The book begins by launching into a thick scriptural treatise into why honor is so important. Next, Bevere explains the difference among full rewards, partial rewards and no rewards based on honoring others. He then talks about why honoring a leader has little to do with the leader. Those who have been in abusive relationships or situations imposed by leaders most likely will disagree with a few of Bevere's arguments presented in the chapter "Harsh Authority." While the author clarifies the differences between submitting to authority and obeying authority, some will have lingering questions regarding the principle taught.

Chapter by chapter, Bevere walks readers through the importance of honoring civil leaders, social leaders, domestic leaders and church leaders. In describing honoring parents, he writes:

"In viewing our parents through the eyes of honor we will communicate with them in respect and love. Recall honor can be displayed in deed, word and even thought, but all true honor originates from the heart. So if young men or women speak in a flippant, careless, or irreverent way on a regular basis to their parents, they are displaying outwardly their lack of true honor for their parents."

During the first half of the book, Bevere's writing seems both overly forceful in its verbiage and forced in its arguments, but then in the second half something magical happens. His heart shines brightly throughout the pages, capturing the reader's attention and response. The transformation begins in chapter 12, "Honoring Our Peers," when Bevere becomes relatable and connects with his audience on a heart level. He begins sharing a series of vulnerable, insightful stories where he made mistakes and struggled to honor those in authority. At this point, the book is hard to put down.

Bevere shares a beautiful story of a pastor who hired one of his employees and the anger he struggled with. Then he goes on to describe a series of fortunate circumstances that led him not only to forgive this pastor but to engage in a deeper, more meaningful relationship with him. He also talks about being frustrated with his wife, Lisa. Only after focusing on her strengths did he begin to appreciate her and realize what an amazing spouse he had. At the same time, he awakened to the reality that he had been a lousy husband.

Overall, Bevere has a great message and a talent for examining scripture with a fresh understanding. HONOR'S REWARD is a healthy reminder to honor everyone you come into contact with and will empower you to truly love your neighbor as yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Disappointed!!, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
John Bevere's writings are always a joy to read. His ability to address important issues concerning Christians while sharing his own experiences is nothing less than a gift. Honor's Reward has completely opened my eyes to how important honoring God's authority is. God clearly states in His Word that if we honor Him (and those he has placed in civil, social, domestic, and church authority), then He will honor us. If we don't, we bring judgment upon ourselves. This is a must read for every Christian who says they love God.

3.0 out of 5 stars God Honors Diligence, March 8, 2010

This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
While I agree with much of much of what John Bevere says, that we are to honor all people, as the Bible says... I don't believe God will give us watches if we do so as he described in one account. That is the heresy in the church today. The church is preaching if you tithe, you will be blessed. That is WRONG teaching. You give, BECAUSE you are blessed. YOU LOVE BECAUSE YOU ARE LOVED. "We love Him because He first loved us." Therefore, it stands to reason that we love one another, and honor one another, God's children, His creation, because He loves and honors them also. Hello? Why else would He give His only son for them? This does NOT mean we respect wrong teaching nor stand in silence when we know God's word is outrightly twisted and taught incorrectly. If we are disciples, and diligent students of God's Word taught by the Holy Spirit and know the truth, then we are called to "earnestly contend for the faith." We are NOT to sit silently by and do nothing and pray that God will do something. God works through His people. We are to correct those who are "going astray" in a spirit of gentleness at all costs. We can still correct, and still honor. We honor God and others by honoring His truth not by keeping silent and hoping God will bless us or give us a watch for doing nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Honor's Reward" Lacks Hermeneutical Skills, March 2, 2009
By
Jeff Hicks (Cape Coral, FL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Honor's Reward: How to Attract God's Favor and Blessing (Hardcover)
Almost every Biblical text cited in this work is wrenched out of its context and jammed into a topical proof texting tale that originates not from the Word of God but from the mind and imagination of Bevere. To give just a couple, right from the start 2 Jn:8 is used to support the idea that the Apostle John was writing about "Honor's Reward" instead of warning Christians not to follow heretical teachings that distort who Christ is, that is a wrong Christology. Then Bevere appeals to Prov 11:31 to prove that the "full reward" of 2 Jn:8 is meant to be for Christians in this life. However, the Apostle Peter thinks differently when he interprets this same Proverb in 1 Pe 4:12-19 with "reward" to be referring to suffering persecution in this life. So, would Bevere still have a best selling book if he were actually teaching the Word of God about suffering instead as he has done here about getting goodies, rewards, riches and spectacular miracles in this life?

But the main contradiction Bevere has with the Word of God and his thesis is that the reason the church in America does not see miracles is taken from Mk 6:1-6. He explains to us that the same reason Jesus could not do miracles is the same reason church leaders in America can't, the reason?: American Christians are dishonoring church leaders. But should a doctrine such as Bevere's be based on a single verse if it is contradicted elsewhere in Scripture? The answer is no. This contradiction is found in John's Gospel 4:43-48. The Apostle tells us that these people do not honor Jesus (v.44) yet they are experiencing Jesus' miracles. These are the same people in John 2:23-25 who have a false faith and yet see the miracles of Jesus. This is confirmed in Jesus' rebuke in Jn 4:48 where the Greek for "you" is in the plural and the NIV renders "you people". This interpretation is further confirmed through Jn chapters 5 & 6 and later when these same people ultimately call for His death. So here are people dishonoring Jesus, having a phony belief in Him, and yet He is doing miracles for them contrary to Bevere's claim in his book.
