Blend the best elements of IVth Crusade and For Victory and you get Honour, Valour, and Pride. Bolt Thrower finally resurface 4 years after their last album, apparently and hopefully past all their line up difficulties. Dave Ingram, formerly of Benediction, takes up the front man duties quite well. His deeper more powerful voice brings out a fiercer quality from the rest of the band as they're forced to keep up with the tone. New drummer Martin Kearns fits right in with the veteran band as well. This album is mid-tempo which is where Bolt Thrower is at their best. Each song is heavy as hell with some really catchy riffs throughout. Contact-Wait Out will literally call to mind what a tank sounds like crossing a battlefield. They've taken guitar layering to a new level for this genre of music and it's definately a must have for any fan of extreme heavy metal.

Not groundbreaking, but still crushingly heavy,

I was about to walk away from a store with a Jazz cd, but I decided to wander over to the Metal section. Finding a new Bolt Thrower album proved too tempting, and I changed my mind. With BT, I have not escaped the "first-listen" syndrome (the notion that whatever album you listen to first, remains your favorite). I still think "The IVth Crusade" is their best, but this one shows they still got it. This band has for the most part stuck with a certain style of which they are the absolute masters. Grinding, churning, groove-heavy with ominous, menacing melodies. The new vocalist definitely adds to the menacing factor - his delivery is a lot raspier and growling than Karl's. The mere fact that BT is still around making music of this caliber, showing an unrelenting adherence to their convictions is worthy of praise and respect. Long live Bolt Thrower!!

Ok, so I have to give it to Bolt Thrower, they lost a great death metal vocalist. But I think the negative reputation this album gets is unjustified. Ingram is great at short bursts of death grunts, and hes good live as well. People, you need to understand that vocalist changes are the worst, and sometimes could completely destroy a bands reputation (see Iron Maiden, Judas Preist, Anthrax, Iced Earth), and its amazing that they stuck together. But onto the album, this is in the same vein as Mercenary and ...For Victory; i.e pounding double bass drums, lyrics about war and honor, and heavy, thick riffs. Definately a good album, but fans new to Bolt Thrower should check out Warmaster or Realm of Chaos first.
