Sorta like Limp Bizkit... but way better. Can compare this to Andre 3000 as well. A good mix of Hip Hop and Rock that can please fans of either genre. I would recommend this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars El Pus are not your typical rap-rock group, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Hoodlum Rock, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
The Good
"Monday Morning" is the proverbial party anthem with some great varied guitar work. The verse is set to a muted chugga-chugga riff, but the chorus is lead by a driving riff. The whole group chimes in on the infectious hook. "Thing Thing" is about being yourself and not letting anyone change you. It has a funky groove to it and an impressive vocal rhythm pattern. The funk is on enhanced by the fuzzy chicka-chicka guitar riffs. "Girl" is about a problematic woman that starts off slow, but builds as our vocalist's frustration grows.

If your between the ages of 20 and 30, you're sure to relate to the references made in "Days of BKs (I Remember)". The memorable acoustic chord pattern is matched by equally memorable vocal delivery. Oh yeah, BKs are British Knights; I totally forgot about those sneakers. El Pus' Fishbone influence can be heard on "Suburb Thuggin" with it's fast paced punk rhythms. It's about false gangsters from the suburbs running into real gangsters from the hood. "Slot Machine" is helmed by a funky bass line and a Nirvana inspired guitar lead.

The Bad
"Intro" and "Interlude"...always a waste of time.

The Verdict
El Pus are not your typical rap-rock group. Their debut album contains numerous addictive hard rock rhythms set to well-written and well-delivered lyrics.
