Saved my 20D from destruction, July 12, 2007
My 20D went flying when my girlfriend slipped on wet decking on a trail in a national park in China, she went one way, camera went the other and landed on the back. The Hoodman pop up function broke, the camera was fine (girlfriend ok also)! The LCD cover is still ok, just the pop up feature is gone (spring that opens the door went somewhere under the boardwalk, otherwise it could have been snapped together again) As for not being able to view the LCD easily, there is a protective film over the plastic that needs to be pealed off the unit, otherwise, it is hard to see the screen, w/o the protective cover, works as advertised! (protective film not mentioned in the instructions!!!) Buying a new one today!

Almost blinded myself - dangerous!, November 27, 2010
This review is from: Hoodman H-20D Canon 10D & 20D Flip Up LCD Cap and Hood (Electronics)
Let me preface this by saying that I own the soft version of this for my Canon G4 with the moveable viewfinder and I LOVE it. I also own/love the hood for my laptop by this company. So I was aghast to find that this item was the polar opposite - terrible! Not because it doesn't shade the display (which it DOES), but because after you look at the display and decide to take another shot, if you move to look through the viewfinder of the camera again you narrowly miss putting your eye out on the sharp/solid metal shade. Yes, in theory, you would close the shade first before looking through the viewfinder again (avoiding the danger), but in the heat of the moment (especially if trying to catch a quick/moving subject, like a bird) I continually forget. I thought it was just a matter of training myself to remember, but after the third time in as many minutes, I knew it wasn't worth the risk - I was EXTREMELY lucky that I didn't seriously injure myself. I guess I need to get the new Canon 60D with the movable viewfinder (finally!) instead.

Hoodman H-20 Flip Up for Canon 20D Review, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Hoodman H-20D Canon 10D & 20D Flip Up LCD Cap and Hood (Electronics)
The Hoodman Flip Up (H-20) is a good product and works well on the Canon 20D Camera. It is a bit delicate and should be used with care. If it is forced open or closed the plastic tips that hold the two side shields in place will break and shields will fall off. I have used three different flip up on my camera. I spoke to a Hoodman representative about this design problem and they actually replaced one broken flip up for free. Use with care.
