5.0 out of 5 stars Great option for your camera....
I'm using the HoodEye on my Nikon D40 Digital camera and really enjoy how clear and bright everything is in the view finder. No more cupping my left hand around the upper part of the camera and face to see the information displayed in the view finder under bright sun conditions. This is what I ordered, a little expensive but worth every penny. ASIN: B001UGNKQE...

3.0 out of 5 stars Does what it's built to do and does it great.
the hoodeye works great, but be sure you want it on your camera for good before you pop it on. it's made to stay. i'm afraid something will break when i need to take it off or the plastic screen over my lcd screen. I can't clean my screen well with the hoodeye attached because it stands over it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great light blocker - made to stay, September 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
I use my D300 with a scope in long distance shots requiring manual focus and in macro photography, which also is often manual focus. Being able to block out the ambient light while setting up focus is really key and this eye cup does a good job of that. It gets four stars from me because the installation is a bit of a wrestle. This has an extra little tab the stock eye piece does not. I felt like I was going to break it, when I was installing it and I can only imagine the same feeling if I were to try to remove it - for example to use a right angle viewer, which I also use occasionally. The extra tab keeps it solidly in place, but a sliding tab might have been a better option on a plastic part that has so little room to work to begin with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, minor design flaw..., July 25, 2010
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
I purchased one of these to use on my D90 and N80. It works great, slips on the camera nicely, but it is a bit difficult to get off. I looked at the bottom edge of the part that attaches to the camera. It has a square edge, and locks securely under the viewfinder. Too securely. I was able to get this off with a small screwdriver to pry it back slightly. Once removed, I took an emery board and filed a slight bevel on the front edge of this square surface. Tried it again, and it is easy to install, and will come off if you want it to, but not if you don't. It is a little stiff rotating it for portrait/landscape, but it works like a champ. One thing to note, you may need to adjust the diopter. I use a -2.0 diopter on the D90 with the DK-21 and I needed to step up to a -3.0 when using the Hoodman. This is due to the fact that your eye is slightly farther back using the Hoodman versus using the DK-21, or nothing at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Camera Gear, November 4, 2009

Leave it to the folks at Hoodman to come up with a durable, working accessory. The Hoodman H-EyeN22S is a great camera tool that mounts securely to both my Nikon D300 and D90. Flexible and face fitting, the Hood Eye works well with both left and right eye shooters. Overall protection from extraneous light is perfect.

Mounting the Hood Eye was a breeze. It easily slides on to the rails of the camera viewer. It does not intrude on the camera's LCD screen. Whether shooting inside or outdoors, this tool delivers.

The Hoodman H-EyeN22S Hood Eye comes with instructions and a thirty day money back guarantee. The company website is loaded with helpful "how to" videos on most of their products. There is also a toll free customer support number.

Like all Hoodman products that I own, its all about quality and durability. The Hood Eye is reliable gear that can and will go the distance. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Necessity, August 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
This item is not an option; it is a necessity for anyone into digital photography. I bought this for my Nikon D3000 based on a friend's recommendation. I must say that this was money well spent.

The standard eyepiece that is included with the D3000 is not adequate enough to fully utilize and enjoy my camera. This eyepiece blocks unwanted light and eases eye strain associated with viewing the camera settings when looking through the view finder. Not only that, it's a heck of a lot more comfortable too.

I've noticed that I'm better able to focus on taking great pictures without having to look at the LCD screen for settings, which is a distraction at best, especially when your subjects are getting tired of you making adjustments back and forth. Instead of worrying if the settings are right, I can get right down to business knowing that any adjustments I need to make will be quick, accurate and viewable through the view finder.

This little gem took a bit to get on, but it wasn't overly complicated or hard. It just tooks a little more pressure than you think you should put on your camera. Once on, you're ready to rock and roll.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can not open lcd screen with this on/Nikon D5100, October 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
Great little eye cup BUT I can not open my lcd screen with this on. I tried pushing it up a little but it still won't allow me to open the screen. I don't know if I am going to send this back or try to scrape some rubber off that is stopping the screen from opening. It is imperative that I can open my screen to view my photos. So be forewarned, even tho it states for the 'square' photo lens, the attachment is square, the actual eye cup is round and the base of the cup is round and protrudes a great deal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cuts Off Corners, May 18, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
I bought this eye cup to use on a Nikon D7000. The product description is: "Comfortably seal out ambient light for improved viewfinder optics"

I does seal out light very well and feels very comfortable, I really wanted to like this eye cup however Hoodman fails to tell you that the opening of the eye cup is too small to show the full viewfinder! The corners of the viewfinder are cut off and it leads to the view being similar to looking through a tunnel. Unfortunately there is absolutely no warning of this anywhere on the hoodmanusa.com website. Buyer beware! The corners of your viewfinder will be cut off, a simple redesign with a larger opening (it would only take 1-2 mm at the most) would fix this problem and then the product would be perfect.

Because I wanted to like and use this eye cup so badly instead of returning it I tried to modify the opening to enlarge it using a sanding wheel on a Dumore. Unfortunately that caused the entire eye cup to separate into three pieces rendering it useless. Completely my fault but disappointing nevertheless.

I contacted Hoodman to make them aware of my disappointment in their lack of disclosure on their website but all I got in return was this advice from Bob Schmidt Vp of Sales "You needed to press your eye completely up against the Hoodeye and the viewfinder would be in full view, edge to edge." First off that's incredibly insulting, of course I tried that, but it defeates the entire purpose of a more comfortable eyepiece isn't it to have to jam your eye into it? It makes it less stable as you're now fighting the eye cup instead of using it. I told them as much and I haven't heard anything back and I really don't expect too. This is simply a design flaw, I love the concept, and I love the feel, that's why I rated the individual areas 5 stars the thing works, the opening just needs to be a little bit bigger! Even toddlers know that in order to fit a square peg(in this case a rectangle) into a hole, you just need a bigger hole.
As soon as they come out with a new and improved design I'll be the first in line to buy it, until then I'll keep using the stock eyepiece and lament everytime I get light in the side that Hoodman almost got it right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hoodman for the Nikon D7000, March 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
Great item, period. The soft rubber eyecup is comfortable, it completely rotates to switch eyes or camera positions effortlessly. It is just a rubber eyecup that slides onto the mount perfectly, no glass or plastic piece at all to impair or add to your viewfinder. A few points to note:
-While this IS NOT made for the D5000 you can easily enough work it into place and use it without losing any function. The technical problem with this piece and the D500 is the flip out LCD of the D5000 which will get locked in place if you use the Hoodman.
-At least for the D7000, if you have a plastic protector for your LCD that impairs the ability for the Hoodman to rotate, it gets locked in one position. Not with the adhesive screen covers, just the plastic, clip on protectors because they protrude butting up against the rubber eyecup neck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple Modification for use on D7000 with BM-11 LCD Cover, November 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoodman H-EyeN22S HoodEYE for Nikon Square 22mm SLR Line (Electronics)
I really like this eyepiece. I wear glasses and the HoodEYE22S makes it possible to leave my glasses on and comfortably see through the viewfinder. After ordering this product I read some reviews that said you had to remove the BM-11 LCD cover from the Nikon D7000 in order for the HoodEYE to fit correctly. Without modification of the HoodEYE, this is true. There is a lip on the bottom of the Hoodeye the interferes with the BM-11. Neither the Amazon or Hoodman websites have the item photographed in such a way that you see the lip. In any event, upon receipt I examined the HoodEYE and determined it could be easily modified using a Dremel Rotary tool (you do have a Dremel, right?). I used a cutting tool to grind down the lip in the center where it made contact with the BM-11. I also beveled the rubber eyepiece right above the lip to provide complete clearance of the BM-11 and the HoodEYE fits perfectly. Since it is difficult to rotate the eyepiece when shooting vertically, I decided that grinding the rubber would not be an issue since I don't intend to rotate it. It is soft enough to leave in the horizontal position full-time.

Even without the lip retaining the eyepiece it still attaches rather snugly to the D7000. It requires a bit of force to remove it. Some people who installed it with the the lip intact have reported it is almost impossible to remove. I prefer my modification because the HoodEYE cannot fall off yet it can be removed. Also, the product description on Amazon and on the Hoodman website should make note of this issue because many owners do not want to remove the BM-11 from their cameras.
