Product Description

Hoodwinked fuses the classic fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood with the crisscrossing storylines of film noir--pretty ambitious stuff for a computer-animated cartoon. Starring the voices of David Ogden Stiers, Anne Hathaway, Patrick Warburton, Glenn Close and Jim Belushi. The Hoodwinked Soundtrack includes memorable performances by Anne Hathaway, Ben Folds, Jim Belushi and Andy Dick. Hoodwinked 2: Hood vs. Evil is due in theatres January 15, 2010.

Review

This soundtrack to the animated Hollywood re-imagining of the popular Little Red Riding Hood children's story is a winning combination of classic movie orchestration and early-21st-century flourishes. --Muze

Todd Edwards, John Mark Painter and a few others have delivered a marvelous soundtrack to the movie "Hoodwinked". Edwards, one of the movie's co-directors and co-writers, also wrote most of the songs in the movie. The material ranges over many genres, and he is convincing with each one.

There are several score cues peppered throughout the album that show John Mark Painter's excellent abilities as a film composer. Painter's background includes the popular mod rock band "Fleming and John". He has also extensive experience engineering, mixing and playing for BEN FOLDS, among others.

ANNE HATHAWAY, the voice talent for "Red" in the movie, sings the upbeat song entitled "Great Big World", while BEN FOLDS appears on the track "Red is Blue", and both give a terrific performance. The song "Red is Blue" is a definite highlight. Cory Edwards, the director of "Hoodwinked", pitches in with a couple of impressive rap songs - one voiced by Cory himself.

Another one of the great features this soundtrack album offers is the liner notes. There is a full-color 12-page booklet included, featuring the lyrics and Todd Edwards' written commentary per track. There is a shortage of good liner notes in the world these days, but this one delivers above expectations. The artwork throughout is also excellent.

This is one great package of an album. It could stand alone as a project unto itself in my opinion. The good news is, that the soon-to-be released movie is as strong as the album, and when the movie's available, I'll proudly place it into my home collection as well. For now, the soundtrack will do just fine.

If you're a fan of the movie, this is a great cd. But it's hard to find, since it isn't in production any more. Just a tip--you can pay $50 or more for the cd on e-bay or from one of these sellers, or you can download it for $10 from Napster.

Listening to the songs on this CD allows one who has seen the movie, not only to recall its most touching scenes, but to give them deeper diminsions. In "Red is Blue" (sung by Ben Folds) Todd Edwards verbalizes a youthful identity crisis which most have experienced + you'll hear of the shooting star you saw in Red's night scene. In "Critters Have Feelings" -- guys, Todd wrote & sings this song about your first love that turned your heart to splinters & of course you'll recall the Wolf accidentally eavesdropping on the catepillars. The upbeat "Great Big World" displays Anne Hathaway's here-to-for unknown crystal clear singing voice & gives a clue that the sequel will probably take Red beyond the forest. On "Be Prepared" you'll relive the mountain goat's Swiss Army horns and you'll re-experience the avalanche imperiled ore car, roller coster ride as Benji Gaither reveals a Gaither style you've never heard before. Buy this CD for yourself and send several for gifts.

I bought this soundtrack album right after seeing the movie in the theater. It's full of original songs and score from the movie. Here's a warning, though: the songs contain spoilers for the movie, so I recommend not listening to the songs or reading the lyrics in the booklet until after you see the movie. Speaking of the booklet, it's detailed with lyrics, notes from the co-director/songwriter, and pictures. The best part of this album is the fact that the actors (Anne Hathaway and Jim Belushi among them) do their own singing, and they're good! Highlights include "Great Big World" (Anne Hathaway; about how Red views the world), "Red Is Blue" (Ben Folds; a clever song about Red's sadness and confusion that makes use of a double-meaning of "blue"), and "The Schnitzel Song" (Fleming K. McWilliams and Jim Belushi; a funny, 1950s-style jingle about schnitzel; it makes me want to try some!). I highly recommend this album. It's appropriate for everyone, and it will provide you with many joyful listening experiences.

This soundtrack is a brilliant blend of all forms of pop styles old and new, into a delightful (and funny) album. The movie is, in my mind, one of those 'modern cult classics' that will only get better with age and people who don't get it are missing out. The soundtrack is a perfect companion, allowing the listener to hear full songs, music cues, and the original score. A marvellous CD for a marvellous film.

This soundtrack has captured the many different songs that pop up throughout out the movie. This includes the great songs that are played while the credits are running. If you enjoyed the musical numbers and clips throughout the movie, I'd definately recommend this purchase.

I wish I'd gone on-line and purchased just my favorite tracks. This CD has every song in and out of the movie--even if the song is only 10 seconds long. I loved the movie and watched it so many times, so I thought I'd really enjoy the soundtrack. In reality, there are a few tracks with aren't really in my favorite genres. My faves make up only half of the tracks. I paid about $30 for it (which includes S & H), but I think I'd rate my tracks worth about $10: Great Big World, Critters Have Feelings, Red is Blue, Glow, Top of the Woods, Bounce, Hoodwinked Theme.

Hoodwinked is probably one of those soundtracks I'll be listening to for years down the road. This is one of the few CD's that I enjoy listening to all the way through every time (perhaps with the exception of Be Prepared). The songs are just as catchy on the CD, and you'll probably find yourself singing along. Todd Edwards is an amazing songwriter, and while John Painter is no John Williams, the instrumental pieces are decently done. While I've found this exceptionally difficult to track down, no Hoodwinked fan should pass this one up.
