5.0 out of 5 stars Hook, Line, and Sinker
When I first picked this book up I was a little disappointed in the lack of photos and lengthy text descriptions. When I started to read it, however, I couldn't put it down. In an industry (fishing) that seems to thrive on anecdotal "science" with very little respect for facts, this book stands out. The author has put together an astounding amount of...

1.0 out of 5 stars Hook, Line and Sinker: The Complete Angler's Guide to Termin
I would have to disagree with those who have previously "reviewed" this book. This is certainly not a "great" book in my opinion since, it attempts to cover all bases in fishing and, thus, is simply far too general for my tastes. I don't know too many people who a) fly fish for high-mountain trout, and b) bass fish for lake (pond) bass, and c) who...

When I first picked this book up I was a little disappointed in the lack of photos and lengthy text descriptions. When I started to read it, however, I couldn't put it down. In an industry (fishing) that seems to thrive on anecdotal "science" with very little respect for facts, this book stands out. The author has put together an astounding amount of factual information on the basic tools of fishing and writes clearly and with a sense of humor. You will learn more about swivels, sinkers, line, artificial baits and the hardware of fishing than you ever guess even existed. A really cool book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Fish, You Should Have This Book, July 25, 1999
This review is from: Hook, Line, and Sinker: The Complete Angler's Guide to Terminal Tackle (Paperback)
This is a great reference book to have around. Of all the fishing books I have, I keep coming back to this one the most. Gary Soucie is very good at explaining in detail everything you ever wanted to know about terminal tackle. What a great book.

More than I think I ever wanted to know, but really good stuff! In my part of the world we do industrial fishing - no reel is too big, no rod too stiff - but a guy who wants to do it sportingly is a refreshing point of view, and the techical info is nothing short of superb. That is, if you want to go to the trouble.

Trying to explain knots and terminal tackle to other people I fish with can some times be very frustrating, so I handed them this book. I salt and fresh water fish. This book is excellent for all types and levels of angling.

I would have to disagree with those who have previously "reviewed" this book. This is certainly not a "great" book in my opinion since, it attempts to cover all bases in fishing and, thus, is simply far too general for my tastes. I don't know too many people who a) fly fish for high-mountain trout, and b) bass fish for lake (pond) bass, and c) who troll for marlin. Frankly, I found that I had to skim all of the material that was of no interest to me - alot of material! Further, I found that it was outdated already as it didn't even cover the subject of saltwater "soft" baits. I was honestly looking for a narrower treatise on saltwater fishing - not every kind of fishing imaginable. However, that said, I assume for the price that if you can find a few tidbits of fishing "wisdom," then, you might feel vindicated for having purchased the book. Otherwise, I'd look for publications with a more narrowly defined subject, particularly, on the type of fishing (fly, saltwater, etc.) that the reader is interested in pursuing.
