Faith, trust.. and pixie dust,
By Jennie Jemiola (Newton, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I saw Hook when it first came out in the theater. I was six at the time. I was quite the imaginative kid and I loved adventure movies (especially ones wiht pirates, like Hook and the Goonies).. When I was 6, Hook was magic. If I'd seen Hook for the first time now, I probably wouldn't think as highly of it.A year ago I rediscovered the soundtrack and I couldn't stop listening to it. The music was so powerful that I really did feel like a kid again, and I still do, whenever I listen to the soundtrack. The score to Hook is what made that movie - without it, I don't believe the film would have been very successful at all. I put on this soundtrack whenever I'm feeling too grown-up. If my work is stressing me out, I take a break, put my headphones on, and just let the music take me into all of those old childhood fantasies. I would recommend this soundtrack to anyone. It never got the recognition it deserved, but I think that it's a very easy score to fall in love with.

Magic Flows Through This Music!,
This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I must start by saying that Hook really was a good movie. It not only lives up to J.M Barrie's vision, but added even more! Thanks to Mr. Speilberg.
The music is nothing short of magic. John Williams packed this album with themes. A tinkerbell theme, a neverland theme, a hook theme, and a lost boys theme! He even does his orchestra "swirly thing" "see tracks 5 and 6. :) This excellent album is a must have for any John Williams fan, or just a fan of good music.

Delightful music,

This is best described as a cross between Star Wars and Home Alone, with a few hints of E.T., and an overall fairy tale tenor like Edward Scissorhands. All that to say though, it is a pretty, engaging soundtrack. My main complaint is that the songs included are cheesy, especially the first one. The third track, Banning Back Home, is also quite different than the rest of the score, although that is not saying it's bad. A big plus is the length, about 75 mins., and combine that with an excellent price, and you get a soundtrack that's definitely worth getting. One thing I must say though after reading a number of other people's reviews of Williams' work, is that a lot of his music does sound alike, contrary to what a lot of die-hard "Williams is the greatest" fans. I'm not saying Wiliiams isn't a great composer, and maybe even the best of our era, I'm just saying his music often does sound like "Williams" music, as I described this soundtrack at the beginning. But it's definitely a score worth getting, although I recomend also getting both Home Alone soundtracks, which are in my opinion, even better. Those, along with Hook, are some of Williams' best, most unheralded scores, and definite must-haves for Williams fans, and pretty music lovers alike.

Out of all of the Williams scores I have collected over the years, very few I cherish more than this soundtrack. Dont let the film be a deterrant, the music is brilliant. Williams has created a beautiful, thouroughly enjoyable score which has ballet qualities. The themes for Pan, Hook, Lost Boys, Tink and Neverland, let alone the Love theme which is heard throughout and the instrumental version of 'When you're all alone' are simply exquisite, they accompany the characters on the screen perfectley. John Williams soundtrack to this film is uplifting and always makes you happy, no Soundtrack or John Williams fan should be without it, buy it today!

Never has Neverland sounded so good,

This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Launched by the brilliant overture titled "Prologue" (which I have dubbed "Adventures in Neverland"), the soundtrack to the motion picture Hook showcases John Williams' awesome talent in one imaginative package. With the success of his exulted Star Wars Trilogy compositions, it is hard to imagine that Williams would still be able to pull off unique, yet fancifully enjoyable music; Hook proves that there is more than enough in Williams to continually entrance the audience with his creative musical spirit. The first few seconds (literally) inspire a timeless adventure into a timeless realm of fantasy, where one can believe flight to be possible, fairies to inspirit hope, and a classic set of pirates to keep us on our toes. If there were only one thing to buy this soundtrack for, it would be for the first track - but you'll not be disappointed with the rest. From the soft piano theme of Neverland's memories, to the playful melody of Hook and his entourage, to the blissful yet memorable tune of the Lost Boys, to the powerful choir and string duo evoking Peter's past, to the rueful yet hopeful song of Peter's daughter Maggie, the impressive number of themes that Williams packs into this one movie is enough to keep anyone delighted throughout the 75 minutes of monumental music. Though many overlook Hook as one of Williams' great pieces of work, there is more creativity put into this soundtrack than any movie seems to deserve - though, don't get me wrong, Hook deserves every ounce and tidbit of this score. It's a shame that other movies don't get the quality that Williams puts into the majority of his.

I saw Hook when i was a kid and i loved it. When i saw it again recently, i realized how neat the music was and wanted to buy it. I was even more excited when i found that it was by J. Williams! When I got it, I was not dissappointed in the least. It is perfect music to listen to while reading or working, and sometimes can be inspirational. Any Williams or Peter Pan fan will love this music, highly recommended!!

John Williams' best!,
By Kane (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I am a steadfast John Williams fan, but this soundtrack is definitely his best -- it even tops the Star Wars movies, which I had long thought unbeatable! I love every track on this soundtrack, even the two songs with vocals and track #3... at first, they seemed out of place, but now I can see how they fit in with the rest of the music. Buy this soundtrack now!

Wonderful and Memorable Score with One Flaw,
By Boiler Bro Joe (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
William's score to Hook is one of my personal favorites from this legendary composer. Every single track has a strong and moving theme, and I think one of the main reasons I liked the film as much as I did (especially given the apparent dislike of many others) is because of the music. However, I bought the CD especially looking forward to the final cue of Peter Pan's duel with Captain Hook, and I was sorely dissappointed to find that the track "The Ultimate War" ends somewhere after the "battle" with the Lost Boys. The final piece of music, where Hook threatens Peter with torment to the end of his days, and Peter decides to finish the duel was an incredibly exciting and emotional cue for me and I find myself wondering if there is any way I will ever be able to hear it outside of the movie. Be warned about this missing cue if you plan to buy the CD, but otherwise it is a wonderful soundtrack.

One of the greatest fantasy scores EVER,
By
This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I am a huge fan of orchestrated scores and this is by far one of my favorites. I can say, with confidence that this is one of John Williams' greatest scores. If *ahem* excuse me, WHEN they make a live action movie of The Legend of Zelda, this is the kind of music I expect to hear on the soundtrack.
However, if you can, try to get your hands on the two or three disc versions.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hook: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is undoubtly one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have ever heard. Hook is my favourite movie and the soundtrack is one of the most listened CD's in my collection. I really love the songs "Remembering Childhood", "You Are The Pan" and "Farewell Neverland". Every time I listen to this soundtrack I remember the first time when I saw the movie, when I was 4 years old. I recommend this to all soundtrack lovers and Williams fans alike.
