Book Description

April 1, 2002
Chronicling and critiquing the passion African American males have with the NBA, this thoughtful dialogue challenges athletes, parents, educators, the media, and the larger society to examine the obsession with basketball. With 91 percent of NBA players being African American and only two percent of African American community becoming doctors, dentists, and engineers, a solution for the future is desperately needed, and this book tries to answer some of the tough questions posed by these alarming figures. Among the questions addressed is What happens to all the athletes who are unable to go into the NBA? and Has this obsession with basketball robbed the African American community of talent needed in other professions? These questions are accompanied by an examination of the attitudes and perceptions of the black sports culture.

Every Black woman living in this country needs to have this book in their possession immediately! This book will indeed explain everything you wanted to know about life but were afraid to ask a man. Thank you Michael Porter for laying out the facts as raw as you did. This is a book that will save your life and enlighten you to progress independently. I couldn't put it down! It's an easy read but it's straight up with no chaser! I highly recommend this book to my sistas out there who want to know the real deal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, some of our Black men get it, October 12, 2006
regarding the plight of Black women in America today. Today, we see far more female heads of household than ever before. The whole popular culture attacks Black/biracial Black women on a daily basis and Black/mixed Black women are the fastest growing prison population.

This book talks about what people have said in private about Black womens' worsening plight. I hope Americans get a chance to read this book and to meditate, then do something about it because we are losing the fight in the Black community. If this goes on, the community would be only a memory.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READING, January 19, 2006

No other group in this country has it as bad as the black woman. Let me tell all y'all my brothers even we as black men got it better than our loving sisters. See we might take it from the white man's world but then we come home and sadly all too often we dump on our black woman. Now the black woman she is out there also taking it from the white man & the white woman & she's got nobody to dump on. Know where I'm going here?

Look we see the denigration of our Black Sisters in everything from advertising to Hollywood to even porno.
Remember this... When they made Charlie's Angels they were going to use Thandie Newton but punked out & took on Lucy Liu instead. See it goes a lil like this: The white woman wants and demands to be the top. She is willing to share it with Latinas to a point and because so many of her men are obessessed with the Asian woman (which have the boyish type of body that the white man in his surrender to homoeroticism has desired and has been trying to force upon his white woman) But the white race will never allow truly the Black Woman on that pedestal. Never! Because our Black Sisters are not only beautiful and truly of the Feminine but they are Strong. The white woman could never withstand the competition.

PEACE!
