I opened the book for a quick start and the next thing I knew I was pausing at chapter five. There are few business books that have an immediate impact and are also an easy read. The text is conversational and the techniques can be implemented immediately to help you engage, influence and connect with others in both personal and professional situations. I have read other books on this topic and this is by far the most useful and easily absorbed. The difference in a presentation that contains a story to one that doesn't is quite remarkable. Gabrielle and Yamini are masters in storytelling and through this book they have used their skills to make storytelling techniques accessible to more people, for which they should be thanked.

I used to work for a CEO who was an amazing storyteller - he was able to captivate & inspire audiences to action. (Thanks to 'Hooked', I now know he was an 'Inspirer'!). I always assumed he was just a natural storyteller. I now know differently. I understand that he was a master at crafting his stories & making them shine, and that he probably practised delivering his stories and constantly honed them. I remember seeing him speak at a meeting of around 100 people and thinking "wow, these people would walk over hot coals now if he asked them to"!

The one thing he didn't do is share his mastery and allow storytelling to be implemented into the organisation.

As a HR professional, I understand the importance of business storytelling and I really enjoyed learning how to become a great storyteller. But, the chapter around implementing storytelling into an organisation is the icing on the proverbial cake! I see real benefits in implementing storytelling into my organisation and will be putting this into practise asap. The 'How Hooked Are You?' sections are also a great call to action and the book was very easy to read. I highly recommend 'Hooked' to all leaders looking to differentiate, inspire and engage...

The book is pretty good. There were some definitive "take-a-ways." For example, the perspectives on Ethos, Pathos, and Logos was interesting in the sense that most business decisions are based on Logos yet it's the art of story-telling which adds Pathos; and those are both encased in Ethos. Also, if you are trying to convey multiple messages, you should have multiple stories.

I first appreciated the art of storytelling for business on a volunteer program in rural Kenya. The Kenyan locals were naturally incredible storytellers and had inspiring stories to share. Months later, the stories they told are still extremely memorable.

Gabrielle and Yamini's book confirms the transformative power of storytelling in a business context.

Establishing engaging connections and providing memorable inspiration are key goals in my presentations, so now I share stories to get my messages across. After a corporate career of enduring (and delivering) a few too many death by powerpoint presentations, I find storytelling to be more engaging for the audience and also far more enjoyable to prepare and deliver as a speaker.

The book 'Hooked: How Leaders Connect, Engage and Inspire with Storytelling' highlight the benefits of organisational storytelling and clearly step out the actions to deliver compelling stories in business. I love the simple yet powerful examples and mini case studies throughout the book - many I could personally relate to and all helped spark new ideas for my own storytelling.

If you're a leader looking to inspire your teams into action or a speaker looking to captivate your audiences, I highly recommend reading 'Hooked'.

When you tap into the vein of true emotional connection that is when you bring about real change. Through "purposeful" story telling Gabrielle and Yamini show you how to achieve this in a clear and concise way.
As leaders our job is to shine a light and inspire people as to what is possible. Through story telling our job is made easier.
Their book is very easy to read with excellent examples of what to do and more importantly, what not to do. The authors provide detailed instructions for you to formulate your own stories so you can begin immediately. They don't waste time with unnecessary information.
This is an excellent book that you will come back to many times.

Gabrielle and Yamini have brought their passion for excellence in leadership into this readily accessible guide to one of the key skills for staff engagement - storytelling.

Over the past decade, through their own engagement with many of today's leaders in significant Australian organisations, Yamini and Gabrielle have built a profound body of knowledge about business storytelling. This experience is on display all the way through this book as they apply their practical experience, reminding the reader that storytelling is as old as human community itself. However, in so many of today's organisations, these deeply human skills have been frequently replaced by technology. Their book brings us back to what is essential between people.

Gabrielle and Yamini use many practical examples of how storytelling is used to enormous effect. They blend the theory intelligently to help remind us of the humanity and normalcy of story to help bring us back to the fundamentals of organizational life - its about our relationship with each other and what Gabrielle and Yamini are focusing on: the leader's relationship with his or her staff and how this is enhanced by concentrating on what they have in common. So many of the examples illustrate how this is done.

By breaking storytelling into its component parts, they enable the reader to easily see how they might view their own tendencies and how to further develop their storytelling skills.

Gabrielle and Yamini take you from understanding what a story is, through illustrations you can use to see how effective you are with your own storytelling and they provide you ways to make changes to your own storytelling style. They also help you craft your stories to maximum effect ...
