Do you often chat with cyber-friends far into the night?
Do you have a friend who buys way too much from online auctions?
Have you ever wondered if you’re hooked on the Net?
If so, this book is for you. Andrew Careaga, a self-admitted Internet junkie, examines Internet addiction from a solid Christian perspective. He carefully balances the pros and cons of the Net while giving useful and realistic suggestions on saying “good night” when the party never ends.
“Andrew Careaga’s Hooked on the Net is a sobering account of how easily we can slip into technological idolatry. We ought to heed his warnings and consider his practical solutions.”
—Quentin Schultze

“Andrew Careaga awakens us from cyber-slumber and prompts us to think about our Internet habits. Informative and a terrific resource.”

—Thomas Hohstadt

Surfing for interesting websites, playing chess online, and invading chat rooms to discuss post-modern philosophy—that’s all in a day’s ministry for volunteer youth pastor and journalist Andrew Careaga. He has written about the Internet and the Net generation in his book, eMinistry, and such publications as Ministries Today and Charisma.

This review is from: Hooked on the Net (Paperback)
This book's value is in the fairly thorough review of the literature on the condition popularly called "internet addiction". As a clinician who treats people with this condition, and one who adheres to religious convictions similar to those of Mr. Careaga, I would caution people generally to take Mr. Careaga's views discretely. Clearly there is a spiritual component to this condition, but not for all people. His review adds a good summary to the growing literature on this condition.
