Book Description

High-priced call girl Tawny Dell boasts a client list that’s part Fortune 500, part Five Families. With a PhD in art history and a tidy chunk of money stashed offshore, she hangs up her G-string with plans to retire to a Mediterranean island to open a gallery. Lincoln Walsh, NYPD sex-crimes investigator, has other ideas. He wants Tawny to work undercover at a high-class bordello to discover if a murdered call girl worked there. The club, nicknamed Upper Eighties, is owned by an ex-hedge fund manager who’d do anything to hook Tawny into his harem. In exchange for Tawny’s cooperation, Linc’s office, in collaboration with Treasury, will see she avoids prison for failing to pay Uncle Sam his share from years of illegal earnings. But Tawny gets more than she bargained for—another dead prostitute, a mob boss who’s an old client, and romantic stirrings for the hot New York cop sending her back into the world’s oldest profession.

About the Author

Polly Iyer was born on the coast of Massachusetts. After studying at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, she traveled to Italy, lived in Atlanta, and now resides in the beautiful Piedmont region of South Carolina in an empty nest house with her husband and a few family pets. Writing novels turned into her passion after careers in fashion, art, and business. Now she spends her time being quite the hermit in comfortable clothes she wouldn't be caught dead wearing on the outside, while she devises ways for life to be complicated for her characters. Better them than her.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Just When I Thought I Was Out They Pull Me Back In" March 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
That pretty much sums up Tawny Dell, the high class call girl with an IQ in the stratosphere. She has burned her little black book an taken the knocker off her door when the NYPD come calling. They want her back in the game for one more play to help catch a murderer, they put the squeeze on her by using tax evasion to get her to do what they want. The cop doing the squeezing is Hot and there is instant attraction they both try to fight. I really like Tawny and Walsh, the author kept teasing the reader with their relationship. You wanted them to get together and just when they do Walsh will put his foot in his mouth every time and then the scene fades out.....damn. So you hang in there for the next sexual charged scene and .....bam.....it happens again. That is how I felt, just when the story started to get steamy it would fade to black the way the old movies back in the 40's did. I was expecting a highly charged sexy little thriller instead I got a soft read with cliche characters. By the end of the book the ex-Hedge Fund Manager was a clown, his No. 1 & 2 men were more like Dumb and Dumber, and the Mafia Don was like every old aging Don you have seen on TV or read about, and that goes for the remaining supporting characters as well. I'm still trying to figure out if this was a Fed case or the NYPD, there was a lot of blurring of the lines when it involved law enforcement. Was this the best thriller I have ever read....no...but it was very entertaining and it kept me turning the pages until I finished the book .

5.0 out of 5 stars Tawney Dell's my kind of girl December 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this book. I chuckled and chortled my way through Tawney's attempt to free herself from the clutches of the IRS by doing just one simple job for the feds. Right. Full of reformed, or not so reformed, prostitutes and hookers, mob bosses and a sexy hunk for Tawney, this is just the thing to liven up a gloomy mid-winter afternoon. Iyer creates quirky, lively characters for us to follow, lively settings, and best of all, can write. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST-READ!!! February 23, 2012
By Blu
Format:Kindle Edition
I like to think of myself as a hard-to-please critic when it comes to my reviews of romance books. For a book in this particular genre to receive a 5-star rating from me, it has to be more than just good. It has to be over-the-top, brought-tears-to-my-eyes, oh-no-she-didn't, laugh-out-loud, and you-gotta-love-him GOOD! Hooked by Polly Iyer met all of these qualifications and more! I don't like to compare authors, and, to be honest, Polly Iyer can stand on her own as a very talented author, but for the sake of comparison, Hooked reminded me of a Jackie Collins novel--a much classier Jackie Collins novel with a dynamic plot and engaging characters where not only do you get the inside scoop on what the hero and heroine are thinking but you're treated to all the inner workings of the other characters involved. I loved it, especially the characters!

Inexperienced or virgin heroines are a bit of a bore to me and rather redundant in most romances. I am all for the lady who knows her way around a bedroom and who wears her sexuality with confidence. Tawny Dell fits the criteria on both counts. This reformed high-priced call girl does not disappoint. I liked her. Simple as that. Then, Lincoln Walsh, Linc, was a great hero. Not quite alpha but definitely not a beta. He was the perfect mix of arrogant bastard and thoughtful gentleman. I adored him.

But the focus of this novel was not based on or around the romance. I repeat, it was not based on or around the romance between these two characters. Actually the romance placed a backseat to the plot of the story which involved a murdered working girl, a perverted brothel owner, his scheming wife, and a mob boss with morals. I was so caught up in each of these characters and the roles that they played that I wasn't disappointed when the story shifted away from Tawny and Linc. I would have liked to have read more on their physical relationship, but I can't even complain there because, in all honesty, the book ended perfectly.

Reading more like a suspense/thriller with romantic elements, Hooked by Polly Iyer is definitely going on my keeper shelf! I've already recommended it to my two reading buddies. And this is before I even finished reading it! Highly recommended, this is a MUST-READ for romance and thrill-seeking readers alike. (Originally reviewed for Risque Reviews)
