2.0 out of 5 stars Just Okay
This book started out kind of interesting but about four chapters in I got tired of reading about how beautiful the characters where without the author fully describing them. The lack of detail had me always visualizing the characters. I also got bored with the back and forth love triangle. After a while I really wanted these characters to make their minds up and move on...

In Joy King's `Hooker to Housewife', you meet Chantal Morgan; a woman
with dreams of making it big using her beauty to obtain a man with
deep pockets, who would provide her with her heart's desires. Her
parents exasperated her hunger for the high-life by giving Chantal
whatever she wanted; even if it meant they could not afford their
basic necessities.

Andre Jackson grew up in the music entertainment business. With an R
& B singer for a father, he was exposed to the glamour and women the
industry attracted. Andre had no real respect for women because of
what he had seen and done with the groupies. The only woman he
respected was his mother and it would be a women like her, he
believed, he would marry. That was until he met Chantal.

Chantal and Andre created a whirlwind of chaos as their relationship
hit highs, lows, and in-betweens. The lengths that Chantal went for
permanency in Andre's life were so extreme that they were saddening.
The tugs on Andre's bootstraps could have led to his victory or demise.

`Hooker to Housewife' is the sequel to Joy King's `Dirty Little
Secrets' but is good as a stand-alone novel. King's characters were
believable and I was emotionally invested in each of them.
Forewarning, the back cover synopsis was not an accurate depiction of
the story as a whole. All in all, the novel had a good flow, was an
easy read, and I recommend it to those who are interested in a front
row seat in the life of groupies and sack chasers.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Turn a..., May 1, 2007

HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is the deliciously steamy sequel to last year's
Dirty Little Secrets. Tyler Blake is living the life of her dreams.
She is a movie star who commands attention wherever she goes. She is
in love with the man she desires, even though he is married.
Additionally she is in the midst of filming the movie that will
solidify her superstar status. But will she be able to withstand the
storm life is preparing to bring her way?

Chantel Morgan is also living the glamorous life. She leaves her
impoverished life with her parents after her high school graduation
for the bright lights of Hollywood, where she plans to make all of
her dreams come true. Chantel plans to get the biggest baller. Andre
Jackson has everything Chantel wants -- status, money, looks and a
promising career. Chantel gives him his first-born child and all she
needs to cement her status is getting Andre to marry her. Unbeknownst
to her, Andre has no plans to marry her, because he is in love with
Tyler Blake.

HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is a knock-your-socks off, drama-filled book that
hooks the reader from the very first chapter. Joy King does an
excellent job of making Chantel a likeable character, even though the
reader will want to hate her due to her evil machinations and nasty
attitude. HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is a cautionary tale for young women
who believe the only way to obtain a successful life is to become
dependent on a man. Even though it is sequel, HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE can
be read before Dirty Little Secrets. Joy King's second novel far
exceeded my expectations due to the excellent characterization and
the easy flow of the novel. I look forward to reading more novels by
Joy King in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Follow-up, July 31, 2007
This review is from: Hooker to Housewife (Paperback)
"Hooker to Housewife" introduces Chantal Morgan, long term girlfriend and baby momma of Andre Jackson. Andre is a talented musician and has it all. Chantal did what most people thought was impossible; she used her body to get her to the top and landed Andre. But after five years, all she got was a ring with nothing behind it.

Tyler Blake is getting her big break in Hollywood and it's all thanks to her new, older, married director boyfriend. Trying to find her leading man for the movie, she ends up crossing paths with T-Roc. The role ends up going to Andre and before you know it, they fall in love. But in the background there are two people determined to break this love triangle up.

I enjoyed reading all the drama in this book. I think Joy King did an excellent job following up from "Dirty Little Secrets." I thought that Tyler Blake was over the drama, but she definitely encountered more in this sequel. Chantal Morgan's character was very interesting as well because you saw so many sides to her. She was the ruthless gold digger, the insecure girlfriend, and then you saw a sensitive side to her. This was a great read from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars I ain't say she a gold-digger, but she ain't messin wit' no broke nicca...., April 10, 2007
This review is from: Hooker to Housewife (Paperback)
Chantal Morgan has her mind made up and her eye on the prize, and his name and HIS money is Andre Jackson. Chantal's played the game, acquired the skills, sex skills, that is to try and find her a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Andre is a rising star, shining ever so brightly, claiming the fame of being a shot caller. One mistake, he got caught slipping and now's he's Chantal's baby daddy! She's wearing that card out like it's Platinum American Express.

Then enters the infamous Tyler Blake of "Dirty Little Secrets" and she's caught up in the mix of her own drama as she tries to rise to super stardom. Tyler and T-Roc are both stumbling blocks for Chantal's plans.

Deja throws it down with a vengeance with plenty of drama, scheming, manipulation, jealousy galore, and plenty of uncertainty. Although, she pulled a quick one with the ending!!! Gotta love her though!

Deja, you're on the yellow brick road and we're gonna follow and cheer for you all the way to the Wizard!!!!

Blessings to you lil mama!!! Absolutely superb!!!

"Hooker to Housewife" seemed more like a well written Hollywood movie script. That's how exceptional it was.

The characters (Chantal, Andre, Tyler and Chrissie) were crude yet interesting and vibrant. My favorite character was T-Roc although he was a thorn in my side. He was deliciously ruthless. Joy did a great job developing this particular character. One minute, you found him irresistible and the next you despised him. He's a true bad boy in every sense of the word.

Although Tyler (Blake) is flourishing as an actress, there wasn't any true growth to her character from "Dirty Little Secrets". She still continues to make awful decisions when it came to her personal life (dating a married man who happens to be a control freak is a prime example). She even began drinking heavily to ease her sorrow. Make no mistake that my observation doesn't tarnish the book in any way, shape or form. I loved reading "Hooker to Housewife" from beginning to end. I wasn't even saddened that I was left hanging at the end (smile).

Chantal and Andre reminded me of P. Diddy and Kim Porter. But Diddy's savvy enough NOT to "wife" Kim. LMAO

Congratulations on another smash Joy!

The lack of detail had me always visualizing the characters. I also got bored with the back and forth love triangle. After a while I really wanted these characters to make their minds up and move on to the next topic. Also I had trouble believing how in-love the character Andre Jackson was with Tyler, that relationship really need to be developed early on in order for me to sympathizes with their compassion. I just need to know that he loved Tyler more for ther beauty and stardom. I'm sorry but the last three chapters I skipped over, the writer just kept going on and on about the same topics page after page. This book just didn't satisfy at the end. BORING!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooker to Housewife, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Hooker to Housewife (Paperback)
Chantal Morgan is down for whatever to get what she wants. Coming from a family that lives check to check, she promised herself she would never fall prey to making ends meet.

Leaving her family behind Chantal move from the windy city to New York where she uses her womanly wiles to be amongst the glitz and glamour. She hits the jackpot when she meets Andre Jackson a well-known CEO in the music industry. As there relationship blossoms and the birth of there daughter Melanie, Andre learns of her wicked ways and intentions and takes a step back and learns that he has gotten himself in a man down situation.

Andre meets Tyler Blake an up and coming actress and falls head over heels in love with her and the feelings are mutual for Tyler. Chantal wants to become wifey and she will do anything and everything in her power to keep the love struck couple apart along with her partner in crime Tyler's past. Will the dynamic duo be able to keep Andre and Tyler apart for good?

Hooker to Housewife was a very interesting read that kept my attention to the very end. Ms. King's writing is off the chain and very powerful, she gives you drama, suspense, manipulation all rolled up into one. I love her style and looking forward to reading more stories from this exceptionally talented writer.
