This paperback book is very helpful to antique furniture buffs and to anyone curious about an American homemaker's lifestyle in 1900-1930. It provides an excellent overview with a narrative on these large free-standing kitchen cabinets. Made famous by Hoosier Manufacturing Company, the cabinet style was also offered in similar models by other companies. Philip D. Kennedy has included black&white photographs plus sketches from sales literature and national magazine ads of the following companies: Hoosier, Sellers, Napanee (Coppes), McDougall, Boone and unknown manufacturers. Worth the price of the book alone is Chapter 8: "Restoring Hoosier Cabinets". This chapter offers step-by-step tips, photos of the process and inspiration with examples of the success of others who have restored -- plus close-up photos of hardware and metal side brackets. This book was a most helpful resource as I planned restoration of a 1914-era Napanee Dutch Kitchenet previously used in my great-grandfather's farm kitchen! The only reason I didn't give it "5 stars" was because the photos were not "professional" quality (some are a bit blurred but still helpful).

Leave it to amazon to have available a small but invaluable book on this topic. It is a wealth of information. Great Photos and historical information.. So glad I found it.

Great book for research, cabinet identification, and refinishing advice. Lots of information on Sellers brand, which my cabinet was. Neat vintage advertisments!

This book is a must if you wish to learn about Hoosier Cabinets and/or restore one. Full of good information and pictures

This book is just what I needed. It gave me the info about my cabinet and is very interesting read. Has a lot of history. Nice pictures.

Of the three Hoosier books I ordered I suppose this one actually had the most information on Sellers brand Hoosier cabinet which is what I was interested in. There were thirty pages of information and old ads on the Sellers cabinet brand. However, that being said I was disappointed in this book. The cover is bright and colorful but there is not one color photo in the entire book! The entire book looks like it was copied on an old copy machine and then thrown together. The original photographs of current cabinets that have been redone are equally disappointing. They are out of focus and of poor quality. They look like someone forgot to use a flash in poor lighting. Some of the pages are very light as if the copy machine was running out of ink! Not a quality production to say the least.
