I am very pleasantly surprised at how much I like this cd. I dont normally even like soundtracks but being a Parrothead, I had to buy it. I love most of the tunes on it and find myself bobbing my head along to "back of the bus". I even like Werewolves of London but I believe it's the first JB remake that I dont like better than the original. All hail Warren Zevon! If you are a PH, I would recommend buying this. It's great summer, backyard bbq, beer drinking music.

for the summer of 2006, courtesy of Jimmy Buffett, the Coral Reefer Band, and some young and old friends. First of all, about half of the CD is made up of Jimmy Buffett tracks (one new composition). "Wondering Where The Lions Are" is a Bruce Cockburn tune that shines under the interpretation by Buffett and the Coral Reefer band, "Barefootin'" is a great duet with Alan Jackson in the spirit of the "License to Chill album", "Floridays" is a cover of...Jimmy Buffett, previously done as an acoustic, wistful tune and now happy, sunny, reggae-filled, and driven by steel drums, and featuring Fingers Taylor on harmonica. "Werewolves of London" is the dud here, and Buffett should never have tried this, as it comes off as bad karaoke.
G. Love does his Philly-driven soul on a track, Toots and the Maytals show up, and one of the stars of the movie (Brie Larson) does here Disney/Nickolodeon teen-pop, and it's not unbearable. But the gem, indeed the true shining moment of the CD is the chamber music, down-beat interpretation of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" done by Maroon 5. Worth the price of the CD by itself. It takes the Withers song, strips it down, and slows the beat till it is almost reminiscent of the Beach Boys "Warmth of the Sun." This one will be played on backyard decks across America all through the summer of 2006.

Bought for the Buffett,

As a die-hard Parrothead I bought the Hoot soundtrack just for the Buffett tracks on it. An interesting mix, great to hear him belting out Werewolves of London and the remake of Floridays is worth the CD itself. Other tracks from Jimmy (Good Guys Win, Barefootin' w/Alan Jackson) are OK, but maybe not worth just purchasing the CD for. Other non-Buffett tracks are an interesting mix of various styles, although if you are a Maroon 5 fan their track will lack some for you. Bottom line--if you love Buffett, make the investment, especially for Floridays. If you are a on-again/off-again fan, it may not be worth your $$$.

I'm not usually too interested in soundtracks, but I was in the store today and this one was playing on the overhead. When i heard the wonderful rendition of Bruce Cockburn's Wondering Where the Lions Are I had to have it. As the day has gone on the soundtrack as a whole has proved to be a great buy.
The Maroon 5/Bill Withers cover of Lovely Day is grand, and Floridays is an improvement on the original. Brie Larson's Coming Around is a nice bit of pop and Toots and the Maytals Funky Kingston is infectious. Barefootin' (with Alan Jackson) continues the collaboration begun on License to Chill to good effect. The only clunker is Buffett's version of Werewolves of London-a horrible mistake to record this one, it only takes away from the original. Reviewing a Jimmy Buffett cd is always an adventure. Parrotheads are already sold and a certain segment of the market automatically discounts his work. This is a fun, enjoyable cd. I could recommend the cd just for Wondering Where the Lions Are and Funky Kingston, but the rest of the tracks make it a very good value

The songs aren't bad...The best part by FAR is hearing the soulful sounds of Fingers Taylor back on Harmonica behind Buffett. Buffet's vocals on "Wherewolves of London" are lacking, but, wow, that Harpoon Man sounds good.
I'm no Parrot Head. I've been a Buffet fan too long to go for that stuff. I'd have gone higher, but some of the tracks--"Good Guys Win" for example--sound a bit bland for my tastes.

Fun soundtrack, definitely an upper,

Really enjoyed "Hoot" and the soundtrack keeps up with the high-spirited fun. Plus, I think all the music from the film was there. We've got some classic Buffett "Floridays" and a wonderful cover of Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London." I especially like the version of "Lovely Day" and "Good Guys Win."

Very nice soundtrack, featuring some excellent covers and several originals. Jimmy's new song "Good Guys Win" is destined for the Billboard Charts. As usual the Coral Reefer Band is in fine form here and Fingers Taylor even re-emerges on a couple of songs. (Although CA harmonica ace Tom Ball also kicks butt on "Happy Ending.") Sonny Landreth plays a mean slide. Good music for driving, boating, BBQing and/or just hanging. Now pardon me while I pour myself a tall, cold one.

There are a few hit and misses on this album, but overall it fits the mood. I don't care for Buffett's cover of "Werewolves of London", however, his re-recording of "Floridays" may not be as good as the original 1986 title-track, but it's nice to hear an upbeat version of it and more importantly Greg "Fingers" Taylor is back jamming with Jimmy on that track. I haven't actually seen the film HOOT so I can't say how it fits the mood of the film, but I think most parrothead will like the Jimmy songs and IMHO some of the non-Jimmy songs are worth a listen too!

I like this version of "Floridays." This is the only place to get the new Jimmy Buffet song, "Good Guys Win." It is excellent. "Wondering Where The Lions Are" is also pretty good.
