5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent.
Don't believe the (lack of) hype with this album. It's one of the most under-rated records of the 90s. Other reviewers can insult this work of art all they want -- I doubt they've even bothered listening to it. It seems to me BBD has been a group people found easy to dismiss as a one or two hit wonder. This is preposterous. In my opinion, outside of remixes, BBD released...

3.0 out of 5 stars DARIUS HOO?
To the person who wrote about Darius Rucker from Hootie And the Blowfish: You're an idiot and you apparantly don't have a clue and know absolutely nothing about music. Aside from that, this a decent second time around for BBD, of course it's not as ground- breaking as Poison, but if you like their style, you'll dig this. Expect to hear a couple of good ballads by Ricky, one written and produced, and even background sung by Babyface.

It seems to me BBD has been a group people found easy to dismiss as a one or two hit wonder. This is preposterous. In my opinion, outside of remixes, BBD released only great songs (on two albums) ... this, Poison, and the "Gangsta" single represent a truly superior body of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD should've came out in '99 instead of '93, October 21, 1999

Though it took an extra year for this CD to be released, it really was worth the wait. You will find that majority of the songs could have been released today. It's way ahead of its time. This CD has a much harder hiphop edge than the "Poison" CD. The guys definetly had the right idea, it's just that nobody was into that type of a mixture of " rhythm and blues" and "hiphop". Songs like "Lovely" and "Guetto Booty" will have your rump shakin', while "Somethin' In Your Eyes" will put you and your loved one in the mood."Above The Rim" is for the b-ballers with "Show Me The Way" having a positive message with a tight track behind it. A must have for your sound system.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Terrible Album with some hidden jewels, July 22, 2005
By
This review is from: Hootie Mack (Audio CD)
As a whole, this album really REALLY sucks, but. BUT, it just may be worth the buy for some New Jack Enthusiasts. Three tracks save this album from hitting the trash cans: "Something in your eyes", "lost in the momment" and "Above the rim." "Something in your eyes" is perhaps one of the best R&B New Jack swings songs that never was. It never got the recognition it deserved, but has always stuck with me over the years. "Above The Rim" actually kinda sucks, but Michael Bivens verse always gets me going and is the only reason I mentioned this song. The ryhmes he spits are off the hook folks in "Above The Rim." The song "lost in the momment" is a little too simple for my taste, but it still manages to drift the listener away like any good R&B track from '95 can. BOTTOM LINE, if you are down with New Jack Swing and mid 90's R&B, this album is a MUST, otherwise, PASS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricky Bell is a slow song king, October 13, 2005
This review is from: Hootie Mack (Audio CD)
I loved the vibe of this album. Its getting terrible reviews but see for yourself. The album is worth buying just for the song, " Something in Your Eyes " . This song is the reason that Ricky Bell should not stop singing. He can blow like no other. " Please Come Back " and " Lost in the Moment " are great tracks as well. Fatim who ? I dont think he could come close to that of Mr. Bell. Ricky Bell did a solid job and MCA buried this CD, not BBD . BBD can still hang with anything put out there in this day and age.

3.0 out of 5 stars Guess I'm biased On This One, July 2, 2003
This review is from: Hootie Mack (Audio CD)
I recorded the original demos for "Please Come Back" and "Lost In The Moment", that the writer, Lionel, later sold to BBD. I also cut some of the vocals on this CD version. A few things that stuck out to me were that the original singer, Fatim, a 17 year old kid at the time, hands down did a better job with lead and background vocals on the demos than BBD. Regardless of that fact, "Please Come Back", was a hit waiting to happen; instead BBD burried it on the release.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy follow up, December 11, 2000
This review is from: Hootie Mack (Audio CD)
BBD and it's family tree New Edition,Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill , Bobby Brown and now Ricky Bell are a group of few artits who don't suffer from the sophmore slump. When this CD was released in the summer of 93 it turned few heaeds expect for the true fans of the NE. The songs Nickel, Above The Rim, Hootie Mack, Lovely and Ghetto Booty. The slow jams Something In Your Eyes, Please Come Back and Lost In The Moment are in this order a great bedromm track, a sad slow jam and another drop the panties slow jam were all hot. If you have't copped Ricky's CD yet get it in stores now and look for the new BBD album in spring 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Album - Y'all Slept on this one Big Time!, June 20, 2006
This review is from: Hootie Mack (Audio CD)
Hootie Mack was an impressive follow up to Poison. By all accounts this sophomore offering is lyrically, musically and socially superior to the multi platinum CD that came before it. So why is it that no one can recall catchy grooves like "Above the Rim", "Show Me the Way", "Lost in the Moment", "Lovely" and a host of other jams from booty shakin' to bedroom slow grinds?
Oddly, the album did not receive the proper radio, video, concert & PR it was entitled and inevitably became another casualty of the recording business machine. As a result, you have a terribly underrated album that sits in countless used CD bins. If you see this one in the cut-out bin - cop it!
