They Naysayers are Crazy,
This review is from: Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub Bagless Vacuum, FH40010B (Kitchen)
Okay,
So I bought this product today (from Target, not from Amazon.com) and I want to begin by saying, undisputably, outstanding. I was hesitant to purchase this product because last year I made a huge mistake by buying Bissel's Flip It (electronic broom vacuum and mop). Before I begin my review of this product, let me begin with the Bissel equivalent. I bought the product because I'm 26 years old and was living in New Orleans in the French Quarter. I would have friends over all the time, and they'd track in the quarter filth all over the hardwood. I bought the Bissel because it seemed to make sense. It's an electronic broom vacuum on one side, then you flip the handle over to the other side and it becomes a wet map. It came with two attachable mop features, a non-moving brush and a small microfiber pad. The Bissel product was awful. It weighed about 20 pounds (much heavier than this product) and the vacuum wouldn't pick up anything, not the smallest dust or debris. It would blow dust away before the unit could get to it. When you flipped it over, the electronic mop side did what it was advertised to do. The only problem was the squeegy would push water around. The unit had to build a suction to pick up water. It wouldn't build a suction unless you lifted up lightly on the unit while pulling it back. Then it picked up water fine, though, again, the unit weighed about 20 pounds. I bought the Bissel product on Amazon.com for about $189 dollars. But I didn't open it until about a month after it arrived, so by the time I got to use it was too late to return. I wrote to Bissel to see if they would give me my money back and they declined, saying they would only replace it. I gave it away to a friend, and he put it on the curb two days later. This Hoover product is completely different. It doesn't just have a microfiber pad, it has a moving, agitating brush that really cleans the tile (in my new home in Arizona). I rebought this sort of product because, for anyone that hasn't lived in Arizona, the area is extremely dusty and a lot of tile is textured. My intention was to buy it to *try* to clean the tile and then return it. This product is not going back. The people who lived in the house before me had coated the tile with some sort of protectant which was peeling off and collecting dirt. They also brought in their bicycles so when i purchased, the first goal was to try to buff them off. Nothing worked. As of today, when I bought the machine, they're gone. So is the peeling protecting that was gathering dirt. Someone said in a review 'it won't clean my grout.' The grout is clean, so I don't know what they're talking about. The bottom line is, some people have a mental illness. You can look at their profiles and see the number of reviews they do, and it's clear they purchase things solely to review them later. They're the same people who religiously call into QVC and HSN. The same people who complain "it's so heavy," are the ones saying, "it doesn't have this, this, this, and this." If it had those things, it wouldn't be as light as it is, simple physics. The vacuum works fine, so does the mop. You don't have to flip it, or lift it, to build a suction and get the mop function to work. It glides over the tile with relative ease, and though I'm in shape, it's impressively light. My only complaint was when I went to remove the collection resevoir, I didn't know you had to hold it very tightly. The bottom fell out and spilt all over the floor. I washed out the resevoir and replaced it, and the mess was recleaned in less than 3 minutes. Buy this product. Purchase the damn thing, and return it if you don't like it.

Although I had a bit of trouble getting this machine as the first one sent was defective, the replacement arrived quickly. I have travertine tile (very textured) floors throughout my kitchen and family room and NOTHING has ever gotten them clean of the Georgia red clay where I live! I have tried everything from a steam-mop machine to hands-and-knees scrubbing. This machine WORKS! The only other time I've seen them this clean was after paying for commercial cleaning which was quite expensive. I'm glad I decided to go with a replacement after getting one that didn't work the first time. I definitely recommend! A white paper towel wiped across the floor stays white...amazing.

The machine does everything the ad says. I do want to tell you a little info on it (especially if you are out of shape or overweight)
To me it felt heavier than 16 pounds before adding water. But not unreasonably. If you have stuck on food or gum or whatever.....the brushes with not scrub it away, so get this up beforehand. May be wise to alternate hands during use or you may get an ache in your waist. Practice makes perfect on getting tile floor surface to not look a little filmy. If you use the hoover floormate detergent the room will smell nice and fresh for awhile. The drying part of the routine takes excess water up but floor will still need a little time to finish drying. I plan to use my Floormate often and all in all am glad I bought it.

We have all hard floors in our house. Pushing a "Swifter" around just didn't seem to get the floors clean. The floor mate works pretty much as advertised. It takes some practice and an occasional wiping up excess water with a rag. The vacuum "alone" function doesn't work so great. For example dog hair mostly doesn't make it up to the canister. It picks up everything when it's in the washing mode, though. If it worked well as a floor vacuum, I would give it 5 stars.

My husband got me this for Christmas (per my request) and it is nothing short of amazing. I cleaned our a portion of our hardwood kitchen floor to try it out and was amazed (and sort of disgusted) by the water that ended up in the dirty water tank. My floors get cleaned once a week by my cleaning people (who may no longer be needed) and they always LOOKED clean, but clearly they are not. After testing on that portion of the floor I continued and finished the kitchen, did 4 bathrooms, the laundry room, and our basement bar. I couldn't ber happier! For less than the price of one cleaning visit I have cleaned all of my floors in less than an hour and know they are all clean now! Thanks Hoover!

Good Machine for the Price,

Overall, this machine does what it is designed to do...clean hard floors without dragging dirty water all over the place. It is easy to put everything together and simple to use. Cleaned our new (just set) tile floor well. We did have to apply a rather heavy amount of the cleaning solution as we were going along, but that could just be because we were cleaning the floor for the first time ever. The cleaning solution reservoir and recovery tanks had to be filled/emptied about 3 times for each room, but our rooms are rather large. About the only drawback I can say is that the wheels left tracks (similar to tracks that a vacuum cleaner would leave on carpet) when in dry mode, which tended to look streaky.

I bought this last month and have used it 3 times. I have a LOT of ceramic tile and there were several reasons that I wanted to try this floor cleaner:
1. I am sick of using a mop and "redepositing" dirty wash water on to the floor...it makes the grout dirtier much more quickly. the floor mate solves this problem beautifully! 2. when I have cleaned my grout in the past, it was VERY tedious and time consuming. It involved cleaner and a brush, scrubbing each grout line using a long handled brush and then going over it with a paper towel to take up the dirty water. Now I can put the grout cleaner down, let it work for a bit and then "vacuum" up the dirty water...wow what a time and back saver! 3. I do have some physical problems and this is much easier to use than a mop or going on my hands and knees. With all that being said...I only have one concern. Several years back I had purchased a $500 hoover carpet cleaner. I probably used it a grand total of 20 times and it "fell apart" due to what i feel is a design flaw, the hoses cracked and made it useless. (I have since bought a $130 Bissel carpet cleaner...and used that twice as many times and it is wonderful!) So I now question the quality of hoover...and that right now is my only concern with the floor mate...will it fall apart way before it should? But right now, I love it!

The best on the market,

first let me say that i have a fanatical need for my 1000sqft of tile floor to be clean. Daily. Call me a freak, OCD, whatever, but the fact is that i clean my floors every day. I also have three kids, so that plays into it.
Second let me add that i have wasted money on every single other product out there. The Bissell flip it (huge waste of money, broke after a couple months anyway) Swiffer Wet Jet (a total joke) H20 steam mop Shark Steam mop now i still use my shark when i want a quick clean or when i need to be quiet (kids are sleeping etc), but it doesnt clean as well as the spin scrub, it has the short cord etc. For all the products on the market, the spin scrub gets the job done the best. i would not say it is "perfect" - but if you are looking for something "perfect" you will be continuously disappointed. Yes, it could be quieter (although then the engine might be weaker); it could suck up more water on the wash mode (but i suggest using the squeegee only mode if you need that); yes it could weigh less (although i suspect it would come at the price of cheaper construction). Overall i am VERY happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. i also really like the cleaning solution it comes with.

I don't know of a better, easier way to keep my tile floors spotless. I love that I can use this machine to spot clean or wash the floor in the whole house without any more effort than I would use with a vacuum cleaner. The fact that it always uses clean water and scrub brushes on every inch of my floors guarantees a really clean, fresh floor.

A lazy women's salvation?,

I am not a good house cleaner. I apparently am not a good tile picker, either. I picked white tile. Not a good choice if you don't like to get down and scrub the floors a lot. In the 8 years we have moved here, our floors have gotten worse and worse and I hate cleaning them. Drag out the buckets, get the mop, and the head is usually falling off. Get wet, dirty and no matter how careful I am, the water coming out of the mop is dirty.
I would do the following: Mop the floor in sections, then spray the floor with clorox clean up, then use my swiffer wet jet with the pad to get the clorox cleanup off. Let's just say it took a LONG time and by then my mops and stuff are all over the kitchen and the floor takes an hour to dry. A friend of mine told me about the Hoover Floormate and although money is tight, we are showing our home to a prospective buyer in two days and I wanted the cleanest floors I could get and I KNEW that my kids would track mud in 15 times in those two days and I wanted to not need to hurt anyone out of frustration. If I have to do this five times between now and Thursday, I feel good about it, I can do this. The machine assembled well. I had purchased 3 large bottles of the cleaning solution, but it also came with the machine. The machine has two wells, one for clean and one for dirty water. How smart! Wow. Wow. Wow. This thing Rocks! Well, the vacuum part didn't work on cat food, so I broom swept the floor and then went to work with the washing. All I can say is that I have never seen my floors this clean in my life. I feel like I could do this a couple times a week without a problem. Oh my goodness, I might end up with one of those homes where people feel inclined to take off their shoes. As it has been, usually I would only get out the mop when my floor started developing topography. I mean, when you could really feel the stuck on chunks. I love it. I would have paid twice the price for this. Thanks Hoover!! |
