What is most obvious about the negative reviews of the Hoover Floormate is that many folks don't figure out how to use it. Maybe the instructions are not clear enough. This being my second, I did not read them. But I know my wife, and a friend who borrowed the old machine had a learning curve, as did I. My previous Floormate lasted ten years, and would have kept going, but it needed a $25 part, and I'm done being "mr fix-it. Ten years for a machine that cost under $100 back then is good enough. Treat this Floormate right, learn how to use it, and it should last also.

Here are the key points one must know in order to have the product work for you, for years.
1) Manage your expectations. It's a $125 floor cleaner, not a magic wand. It does get the dirt off the floor, actually leaving it clean.
2) Know that when washing a floor, PULL THE TRIGGER ONLY WHEN PUSHING THE DEVICE. That is what puts the water down, the brushes still turn when the trigger is released, scrubbing the floor. Otherwise, the machine is "just spreading water around" as some reviewers said. That's because they did not know how to use it.
3) To pick up the water, pull the machine towards you, very, very slowly. This newer model seems to still pick up the water best in "wash" mode. If you can see water coming up the channel over the brushes, that means there is water to be picked up. If no water is coming up, the floor might have a damp shine on it, but it will be dry in a minute or three. If you think about it, the brushes are spinning the water, and the brushes are driving the water towards the center channel.
4) The squegee on the front is not meant to work both ways, only on when the machine is slowly pulled toward the user.
5)The vacuum works better on this one than the older model.

So I bought this product today (from Target, not from Amazon.com) and I want to begin by saying, undisputably, outstanding.

I was hesitant to purchase this product because last year I made a huge mistake by buying Bissel's Flip It (electronic broom vacuum and mop).

Before I begin my review of this product, let me begin with the Bissel equivalent. I bought the product because I'm 26 years old and was living in New Orleans in the French Quarter. I would have friends over all the time, and they'd track in the quarter filth all over the hardwood. I bought the Bissel because it seemed to make sense. It's an electronic broom vacuum on one side, then you flip the handle over to the other side and it becomes a wet map. It came with two attachable mop features, a non-moving brush and a small microfiber pad.

The Bissel product was awful. It weighed about 20 pounds (much heavier than this product) and the vacuum wouldn't pick up anything, not the smallest dust or debris. It would blow dust away before the unit could get to it. When you flipped it over, the electronic mop side did what it was advertised to do. The only problem was the squeegy would push water around. The unit had to build a suction to pick up water. It wouldn't build a suction unless you lifted up lightly on the unit while pulling it back. Then it picked up water fine, though, again, the unit weighed about 20 pounds.

I bought the Bissel product on Amazon.com for about $189 dollars. But I didn't open it until about a month after it arrived, so by the time I got to use it was too late to return. I wrote to Bissel to see if they would give me my money back and they declined, saying they would only replace it. I gave it away to a friend, and he put it on the curb two days later.

Although I had a bit of trouble getting this machine as the first one sent was defective, the replacement arrived quickly. I have travertine tile (very textured) floors throughout my kitchen and family room and NOTHING has ever gotten them clean of the Georgia red clay where I live! I have tried everything from a steam-mop machine to hands-and-knees scrubbing. This machine WORKS! The only other time I've seen them this clean was after paying for commercial cleaning which was quite expensive. I'm glad I decided to go with a replacement after getting one that didn't work the first time. I definitely recommend! A white paper towel wiped across the floor stays white...amazing.

I, like many of you, had been shopping for a hardwood floor cleaner for over a year. I knew they were expensive, and frankly I was exhausted with all of the options. So it's been me and my Swiffer WetJet for years. No longer!

I ordered the Hoover FloorMate from Amazon after reading countless reviews, then comparison shopping. I found Amazon to have the cheapest price around. Plus, free shipping....how can you go wrong?

So when it arrived in a week or so, I was ecstatic to try it out. Instructions were very easy to follow and within minutes I was experimenting with my tiled kitchen floor. One of the best features of this vacuum is that it does it ALL. Sweep, mop, dry. No other tool needed. So I used the vacuum to sweep, I was a little doubtful since there were crumbs, etc. on the floor. But the FloorMate picked up everything in its path. Moping was super easy. Just remember to keep a nice even pace, not too fast, not too slow. After moping, I was ready to try the dryer function. I was horrified watching the tank fill up with dark disgusting water that was covering my "clean" floor. Just remember to use a nice even pace when drying....and to all those who claim this vacuum doesn't dry, well it does! This has cut drying time down by at least 2/3.

I am very pleased with the Hoover FloorMate. My floors are cleaner and shinier than ever....with far less effort from me. No longer am I on hands and knees scrubbing where other mops couldn't' clean.

Clean up was a breeze. I just detached the tanks, and brushes/guard, took them outside and used the water hose to rinse and clean. Definitely a time saver! Half of my home is tile floors, the carpeted areas I am planning to convert to hardwood in the near future, so my vacuum is going to be busy!
