5.0 out of 5 stars I love this machine...
This is a great machine. I do not use it to vacuum, I have a little cordless stick vac for that, or my central vac, but this machine makes cleaning my big tile kitchen floor a joy. Gets every bit of dirt up and saves my bad back. I do not see any difference in performance between this one and the H3000, which I borrowed from a friend to try out, but the cord is longer,...

This is a great machine. I do not use it to vacuum, I have a little cordless stick vac for that, or my central vac, but this machine makes cleaning my big tile kitchen floor a joy. Gets every bit of dirt up and saves my bad back. I do not see any difference in performance between this one and the H3000, which I borrowed from a friend to try out, but the cord is longer, and the solution and return tanks seem easier to remove and replace. I recommend this machine to anyone with a lot of tile to keep clean.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoover H3010 Floor Mate Plus SpinScrub Hard-Floor Cleaner (Kitchen)
Bought this unit to clean up after our 2 year old. I cannot believe how muddy the return tank was after. The floor was mopped (swiffer) just a day before it arrived but we wanted to know how well this performs. I got this for the sole purpose of wet cleaning and I do have a stick vac next to it for dry pickups. It is lighter and easier to move around.

I like the extra long cord. I wired extra outlets inside the my laundry room and kept the floormate and stick vac plugged in and ready to use.

I do notice that a small amount of water leaks out each time you remove the tanks. So expect a little puddle each time you empty them. We keep them in the laundry room with the tanks at least half full of the floor cleaner to keep it ready and it does not leak while in storage.

Beyond these minor nuances, I would recommend this unit. It definitely cleans better than any mop. The squeegee dries the floor out completely except where you stop (leaks). So just have some paper towels in your pocket and you will be fine. Wiping off a puddle is easier than walking all over a damp hardwood floor anytime.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am thrilled with my Floormate!, November 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoover H3010 Floor Mate Plus SpinScrub Hard-Floor Cleaner (Kitchen)
I had been worried about the dry vacuuming strength-- but I am not disappointed at all. I do find that I need to check the air intlet just below the filter -- my little Jack Russell sheds a lot and this machine sweeps up more of her hair than anything I've tried and makes a little hockey puck of it there under the filter. So, I take that out and it picks up everything the dog, my son and the two gardening adults bring in. Sincerely, nothing has come close to picking all the hairs a my little dog drops. (Better like short white dog as a clothing accessory before you choose a Jack Russell terrorist.)

It is also great on the indoor/outdoor carpet. Picks up stuff that a regular vac might kick about with its brush. I am also fond of using it in my sewing area since it picks up thread without making a mess of the brush.

The wet cleaning is really awesome. I am so happy to have simplified my life with this sweeper. Now, if I can just get my son to start cleaning more....

the Hoover Floor Mate Plus didn't even come close to measuring up. The dry vacuum setting did not effectively pick up things that small children routinely toss or drop to the floor, like Cheerios or random elbows of last night's Mac-n-Cheese dinner. It would pick up finer particles (like bread crumbs), but in order to get anything bigger, I would have to pivot the vacuum up and set it directly on top of the item, sometimes having to do that two or three times before it would go in.

The wet scrubbing setting: A MAJOR fault of this brush design is that they are horizontal disks that spin sideways. This might work if you have Pergo floors that don't have any little crevices to speak of, but if you have ceramic or terra cotta tile with recessed grout lines, those flat little brush disks simply cannot get down in those crevices in order to properly clean them. The fact that I had to go back and re-mop those areas with the scrubbie side of my mop did not make for a happy mom. :-(

On the plus side, the wet vac part worked great. All the water was vacummed up with little residual dampness to speak of.

Bottom line? The Hoover will be returned for a refund. I will be ordering the new Dirt Devil hard floor cleaner that has just come out and see how that stacks up - seeing as it features a rotating brush (like on many vacuums), it seems like there might be a better chance of it getting into those "hard to reach" areas. ;-) With two young children, four Peruvian Paso horses, a shetland pony and a Newfoundland dog, we are a household in need of some pretty serious muscle power in terms of cleaners. I look forward to writing in my review of the Dirt Devil and seeing how they compare.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my floor mate!, November 24, 2005
This review is from: Hoover H3010 Floor Mate Plus SpinScrub Hard-Floor Cleaner (Kitchen)
I almost wrote a review 2 years ago when I got my floormate because I was so excited by how well it worked but I decided I had better wait and see how I feel about it in a couple of months. It's been 2 years since then and I still love it! It's so much easier than using a mop and bucket and it cleans much better. It picks up all of the fine sand that my dogs bring in better than anything else I've ever tried cleaning my floors with.

One of the most important things to to with the floormate is to make sure you dump the dirty water as soon as you're done using it. I made the mistake of waiting until the next day and the water smelled really bad. It's really easy to just dump the water and rinse out the container it was in after each use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not Great!, November 11, 2005

I've had the floormate plus for over a year now and it is still working well.

Pros: No dirty mop water. Works great on Hardwood floors. Virtually no wet spots on floors. Easy to use.

Cons: If you have tile/Ceramic floors with grout... forget the brushes getting in there to clean. That is a huge con for me, because the grout needs to be clean. Doesn't get into corners well. Mine also Leaks occasionally. Loud. Heavy. Not crazy about cleaning solution.

If the brushes were more powerful in getting to the grout, I would be very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars I haven't stopped cleaning, January 7, 2004

I got this as a Christmas/housewarming Gift from a male friend of my husband, who watched me sweep my new kitchen floor. With all the wet weather and at least one dog (sometimes three) when my daughter comes over, it was starting to become a joke trying to keep up. I had been using a swiffer, but knew the time was approaching when I would have to break down and really clean the floor. The first time I used the Floor Mate Plus, it left so little water, I wasn't sure if enough water was getting on the floor to do the trick. This machine did it all. The proof was in the DIRTY water afterwards and the almost dry floor immediately after the cleaning. It picked up the animal fur, pine needles, sand, outside dirt and dust. I love it for the tile floors but I love it even more for the wood floors. Buy it, you'll love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beats sloshing a bucket of dirty water, October 15, 2005
This review is from: Hoover H3010 Floor Mate Plus SpinScrub Hard-Floor Cleaner (Kitchen)
I'm generally pleased with the Hoover floor mop, but I agree with other reviewers that it's not outstanding. It does get my floor pretty clean, but I still need to use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to get up scuff marks from my linoleum floor.

The Hoover mop was pretty easy to put together and is very easy to use. Because the mop is easy to use, I do find that I mop my floors more often. The mop takes up about as much storage space as a small upright vacuum cleaner.

I find that the mop cleans better when I use Mr. Clean liquid cleaner than with the Lysol cleaner that came with the mop. (I promise you, I don't work for the "Mr. Clean" company!).

Tip: when you finish mopping, let the mop sit on the hard surface for a few minutes. The mop "dribbles" a little bit of the wash water after you shut it off, and it is easier to just wipe it up with paper towels from a hard surface than if you let it sit on nearby carpet. I made that mistake once, and I won't make it again!

This is not a bad little machine. Benefits: nice long cord; does well with pet hair; fairly easy to empty canister; gets in hard to reach places (fits under the edge of my refrigerator, cabinets, etc.); fairly light and quiet. Drawbacks: doesn't do as well with picking up heavier items such as birdseed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cleans just okay. Advertised to have 2 brush blocks but mine is missing the grout brush block, September 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Hoover H3010 Floor Mate Plus SpinScrub Hard-Floor Cleaner (Kitchen)
On paper, this floor cleaner sounds like a great idea. I think it does only an okay job. I like the idea of the Hoover extracting the dirty water off the floor, but it really needs a wash mode where it's not immediately sucking up cleaning solution up while I'm trying to scrub the floor. It doesn't provide enough time for it to work the dirt off and it wastes a LOT of solution. Obviously, you would have to use discretion as this might not be a good idea on wood, but for tile, it would be fine. I think the floor would get much cleaner if I had a handled brush and a bucket of cleaner to scrub the tile and then use the Floormate with clean water in its tank to suck the dirty solution up.

The H3010 is advertised here at Amazon to come with 2 brush blocks (normal and grout) but mine only came with the regular brush block. When I received the unit, the box didn't state anywhere that it should come with 2 so I think I got taken. I contacted Amazon to see if they will correct this problem. Until then, if you purchase this item, be warned that you may not get the second brush block advertised to be included. I really wanted the grout brush block because the normal one just isn't aggressive enough to get that deep down dirt in the crevices.

Construction wise, the unit seems to have a good fit and finish even if almost everything is made of plastic. The noise level the machine puts out isn't as bad as I had feared it could be. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner with a bunch of little brushes swishing around! The canisters pop in and out easily and cleanup was quick and painless. Probably 5 minutes to tear it down, rinse it out and have it drying on the dishrack.

So, it's not the silver bullet to floor cleaning. Maybe in 2 or 3 more iterations of the Floormate, but not this one and not in the new H3060. The scrubbing brushes need to be height adjustable, and there should be a switch to turn off the suction while scrubbing. I checked the manual for the H3060 and the wash mode still retains the vacuum pickup just like the H3010.
