Best cordless vac on the market but not perfect,
By
This review is from: Hoover LINX Stick and LINX Hand Vacuum Combo Pack (Kitchen)
Over the years I've gone through a Shark, Eureka, and Electrolux cordless vacuums. The Shark wasn't bad but emptying it without making a mess was a pain. It was good for getting pet hair off a carpet and great on hard floors, but not great at picking up carpet dirt. The Eureka was probably the worst. It didn't work well on floors or carpet and was really cheaply made. The Electrolux was well made but too under powered. It's also hard to push across carpet making it a mediocre hard floor vacuum. The detachable hand vac made it slightly more useful, but not enough for me to recommend it.
So to say that the Hoover Linx is the best battery powered vacuum on the market it not making a bold statement. The competition is pretty weak. Hoover doesn't have to work hard to be better. For the most part Hoover wins on all counts: it's a decent carpet vacuum, a very good hard floor vacuum, it's well made, and the battery initially holds a decent charge(about 10 minutes of run time). The hand vac is a separate unit but it's far better than the built-in hand vac in the Electrolux. If you are looking for the best battery power vacuum on the market, this is it. What are the downsides? Cost: for half the price of this vacuum you can get a much better corded vacuum and a good battery powered hand vac. If you are on a budget the Linx simply isn't a good value. It's not powerful enough to replace a corded vacuum, it just means you don't have to break it out as often. Suction: while far better than any other battery vacuum it's not nearly as powerful as the cheapest corded vacuum. Noise: it's louder than any other battery powered vacuum I've owned and louder than some corded vacuums. Battery: After about a year the Lithium Ion battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes and replacement batteries are $50. So if money isn't an issue this is the best on the market. If you are trying to watch your budget get a corded vacuum or get the Shark.

These two battery powered vacuums are the best I have ever used. The Li-ion battery gives full power until its energy is exhausted. The stick vac will run about 15 minutes when used on carpets after a full charge, and works great! The hand vacuum is very well balanced and powerful plus easy to use. We have hardwood floors, the stick vac is excellent for that purpose. The batteries can be charged in three hours or less.

Best design and function,
By Nameless Faceless User (Holbrook, NY USA) - See all my reviews

I was quite surprised at the power of a battery powered vacuum. This has all the features I was looking for - lightweight, upright, no bags, and best of all cordless. Compared to my canister corded vacuum, it will take a little longer to clean with this unit. On dirt, dust, sand, and quick cleaning it's really remarkable. It's fairly small and looks much better than the photos - sleek and shiny chrome and black plastic it can blend into a corner without needing to hide it from view. The hand-held unit is also very powerful, much better than a Dust Buster for cleaning auto carpets, getting into corners, and quick dry spills in the kitchen.
There are no loose attachments. The dust brushes on the hand-held are permanently attached and quickly swivel into place. The battery charger is intelligent so as not to overcharge or overheat the battery. Battery indicators on both units clearly show how much charge is left. There is a small swivel on the upright for corners which is just ok. I just have one complaint. There's no light on the front.

Love this vacuum!,

I absolutely love this vacuum. I have been searching for the perfect cordless vacuum since building our house 8 years ago, and this is by far the closest I've come. I should add the caveat that I have a small house (1200 sq ft) with all hardwood and tile surfaces (only two throw rugs and a couple entry rugs), so I wasn't looking for something to handle wall-to-wall plush carpeting. BUT, I have two large indoor/outdoor dogs and we live in the country off a dirt road so my house is always filled with dirt and dog hair. This vacuum handles this with ease. I love the convenience of being cordless, the power of the windtunnel, and the ease of cleaning the dirt canister. I have a pile of vacuums in the attic including an electrolux stick, two larger (corded) hoovers, several carpet sweepers, and even a roomba, but none come close to the Linx in overall performance and convenience.
The only negatives: after reading several reviews and speaking to Hoover's customer service (a real live english speaking person that knew the product) I realized that I should opt for two batteries because of the short run time and bought the stick and hand vac combo. The two batteries allow me to thoroughly clean my house with plenty of time for nooks and crannies, but a longer battery life would be nice so I wouldn't have to juggle charging both batteries. My porter-cable power tools (drill and circ saw) have the same Lithium-ion batteries and have a much longer run time, plus these batteries can be left on the charger indefinitely without reducing overall battery life or run time. Not sure why Hoover can't match this performance. Also, the hand vac seems underpowered and doesn't have any accessories to extend it's reach and the upholstery brush has been fairly useless on my microfiber couches. But with that said, I still love this vac and would highly recommend to anyone with more hard surfaces than carpet.

Great Value Vacuum Set,
By
This review is from: Hoover LINX Stick and LINX Hand Vacuum Combo Pack (Kitchen)
Purchased this vacuum set from e-bay for a reasonable price about 1 1/2 years ago to replace an older Hoover bagless vacuum we had which only lasted us 2 years. These Linx vacuums seem to really be holding up well and worth the money so far. Here's some pros and cons my wife and have found with these vacuums.
PROS: Light and easy to maneuver(good on stairs & baseboards) - Fairly quiet operation - Bagless system is easily removed and dumped - 6YEAR Manufacture warranty - With 2 batteries we can clean entire house with power to spare(1500 sq. ft.)- Suction is strong for a cordless operation- Batteries charge within 30min - Cordless Hand Vac is great for use with vehicles - Li-Ion batteries run until completely dead(won't reduce suction as battery drains) - Nice design with helpful feature to turn off rollers and only have air suction. CONS: Dirt Canister fill up somewhat rapidly (every 1-2 rooms depending on dirtiness) - HEPA filters need to be washed often to keep good flow - HEPA replacement filters are a bit pricey ($10-$20, Hoover store is always sold out) - Stick vac has same issue as all other vacuums with a brush roller, you MUST take precautions to cut out any hair getting wrapped around the brush. If hair is left on brush it won't work properly and will break the roller mechanism (that's what happened to our last vacuum) I think that's pretty much everything we've experienced so far with using these vacuums. Overall I would say these are good quality products that are backed with a long time manufacture warranty and should last plenty of years if properly maintained. I'm not sure on the expected battery's life, but I'm hopeful Hoover would replace if they go bad before the 6 year. We've really been happy with the results from these vacuums and are grateful to be able to use them in our home.

Good for "in between" cleaning. I like it.,

Dave, Nameless and other reviews here have covered it pretty well, but I will say that. for me, this combo is a great product and enables even lazy me to keep things fairly clean "in between" the full bore vacuuming with the cord vacs. For me, the snagging cords and such are enough trouble to discourage me, but not now. I can grab one of these and tackle the quick clean-up job in a jiffy.I got the "gold box" deal. This combo was pretty expensive even with that deal, but for me it has been worth it. I can use the stick vac to vacuum the family room rug and dining room (and occasionally kitchen) areas when they need a quick clean up. The hand vac for other quick clean up tasks. Both work fairly well. Nowhere near as good as a full powered vac, but well enough to be useful and better than you might expect for a battery powered tool. I use mine several times a week on a regular basis and have had no problems after several months of use. The stick vac is fairly light and easy to use. It is very easy to empty the canister (don't forget to clean the filter and wash it occasionally. You'll notice a loss of suction if you do not). The battery is lasting me about 12-15 minutes so far. I find I can get more done in that time than I thought. In addition, with the combo you actually have 2 batteries, so you can swap out the second one (from the hand vac) if you need to. The batteries charge nicely in the supplied charger in just a few hours. (The indicator lights for remaining charge rapidly drop to the lowest reading on my stick vac, but I'm still getting the full time specified. Probably a cheap voltage based circuit. They're more accurate on the hand vac.) The canister on the hand vac is much harder to empty because it has a smooth surface and no grip, you have to twist it to remove it, so this is harder to do than in needs to be. All they had to do was add somewhere for you to grip? Not a major issue, but for some it could be a problem. Otherwise, it works very well. I don't use the brush tool that often, but it works OK. And yes, both of these units are quite loud in operation. The batteries are very easy to remove and insert, the charger unit is nicely designed and easy to use. About the easiest battery charger and battery swap setup I've ever used on any tool. This is important as this would quickly get old if this were not the case. As it is, it's great, you can swap batteries in 2 seconds. Bottom line -- things are looking a lot cleaner around here since I got these. 2011-11-19: Upped my rating to 5 stars. Have used this set almost daily now since purchase (almost a year ago) and find them incredibly convenient and easy to use. Yes, the dust bin on the hand vac is a pain, but overall this set is worth every penny. The upright remains the best battery powered stick vac I have seen.

This is a great combo pkg. Both have good suction, knowing, of course, that the battery doesn't last too long. We have 2 batteries so just interchange them. We use them for little "pick-ups. " They are light but very good, and with no cord, it is easy to pull one of the vacuums out to do little jobs. I would not recommend them for use as exclusive vacuums for the house. We received them very quickly from the seller and are so pleased with their performance that we are considering buying them for Christmas presents for family members.

Got this as one of Amazon's Deal of the Day at a really good price. It's really convenient and picks up great. The handheld is powerful and better than the 5 or so other handhelds I've owned in the past. The biggest plus is my wife loves it. She's happy, I'm happy. The battery life could be longer, it lasts about 15-20 mins, but it comes with 2 so always keep one charging and you'll be fine. Definitely recommend!

I am very pleased with the product. It is so easy to just turn it on and use it. It is light weight and easy to turn. You have no idea what a pain the cord of a traditional vacuum is until it is missing! I will turn it on to vacuum the kitchen and the next thing I know I have gone through the whole downstairs on my way to putting it back in the laundry room.
I have a two story 3,000sf house. I can vacuum one floor at a time with the battery. I don't want to become a clean freak but this is certainly helping me keep a cleaner home.

This is NOT a good review,

This review is from: Hoover LINX Stick and LINX Hand Vacuum Combo Pack (Kitchen)
I purchased the Hoover Battery powered Linx a little over 6 months ago and I must be doing something wrong or got a bad Linx after reading some of the reviews on this site.
At first I loved it as many of the reviews indicate and I also have two big indoor/outdoor dogs and live out in the country as another reviewer also stated. But after several months of using the Linx about twice a week, I noticed it did not have the power it once had even on a full charge. It is now down to where I must stop every 10 minutes or so to clean out the suction line. I use it only on my hardwood and tile floors and I have avoided using it to pick up anything but dust. And if anyone has dogs, and lives out in the country you must know that that means stooping down to pick up small pieces of anything else dogs might bring into the house. The dogs I have do not shed much at all, so that leaves out the question of a lot of dog hairs. I have no children living at home so my house stays clean other then the dust balls which no house is immune to. I quit using my Linx after today as I'm totally disgusted and am going to put it out for the garbage collectors this Wednesday (after spending $169 on it...that's how disgusted I am with it). I have for many years purchased Hoovers and have a larger one that specifically advertised it was dog friendly but after a year an a half of use it also has lost it's suction and has for the past months been spitting out the dirt behind it. That one cost $289. and one might think it would have lasted longer then a year and 7 months. So, I've decided at this point to purchased disposable vacuum cleaners...after a year of use, $69 dollars is easier two throw away then what I paid for my Hoovers. |
