This product does exactly what it was intended to do. It sucks up dust, dirt, and minor debris; and it does it well. The balance is perfect in your hand; the snout is fairly long for getting into tight places, it has powerful suction, the battery lasts long, the charger is first class and lets you know when it is done, the battery indicator lets you know how much longer...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not great
I got this little vac for picking up hair and bits of crud on our new white laminate flooring in the living & dining rooms. I was also hoping to use it for vacuuming the stairs and sofa, and for vacuuming under furniture. I've had it for a month now, so I'll give you my two cents.

Suction is just ok, poor compared to a regular vacuum, but you can't expect...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirt Sucker Supreme, June 8, 2009
This review is from: Hoover LiNX Cordless Hand Vacuum, BH50015 (Kitchen)
This product does exactly what it was intended to do. It sucks up dust, dirt, and minor debris; and it does it well. The balance is perfect in your hand; the snout is fairly long for getting into tight places, it has powerful suction, the battery lasts long, the charger is first class and lets you know when it is done, the battery indicator lets you know how much longer you can use the vac before recharge, and it has a built-in brush. That merits 5 stars.

There are two minor cons that don't measure up to the 5-star level. When the brush is rotated and slid/snapped out into working position, it does not stayed extended out if you push hard on the surface being vacuumed. But, I don't think the designers intended that you use the brush to vacuum a carpet. It does work very well on computer keyboards, my cordless phone charging station, the back of my computer, and the nooks and crannies on my car dashboard. What I now do is to wrap a wide rubber band around the extended nozzle, just behind the brush. That works perfectly. The brush does not slide back from operating position, and I can do my whole car very successfully with no brush problems.

The second con is that when emptying the vac, the cannister rotates stiffly, so I hold the handle between my knees and use both hands to rotate the cannister to remove it. I suspect that after I empty the vac a number of times it will start to loosen a little, and it will be a one-hand job.

Every time I use this vacuum cleaner, the thought goes through my mind that Hoover must have assigned their most experienced product engineer to design it. The switch is in the perfect position. The perfect balance makes the unit feel light. The nozzle end just wants to hang down to the right position where you will be cleaning. You can see how much you have sucked up and when it is time to empty. The more expensive lithium ion battery charges quickly and does a lot of cleaning before becoming discharged.

If you can afford it, buy. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a sucker!!!, May 6, 2009

This is one powerful hand vac. It really does a good job of picking up about anything you find on the floor, and it lasts a satisfying long time on a single charge. I highly recommend it for this reason.

One design flaw was a problem. It replaced a wall-mounted dustbuster! However, it does not have any provision for mounting on a wall. So special accomodations had to be made to provide a storage place for the vac and the charger. This was the one big disappointment my wife had with the replacement. However, she forgot all about it after a few uses of this clearly superior hand vac.

Hoover BH50015 Platinum Collection LINX Cordless Handheld Vacuum CleanerThis is a excellent Handheld vacuum mainly because of battery power!! I am a auto clean "nut". The Hoover works great for automobiles. I have never used a battery vacuum with this POWER and RUN time!! I looked a several other brands but decided to pay more for the Hoover. You get what you pay for!! I am happy with this decision.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not great, June 9, 2010

This review is from: Hoover LiNX Cordless Hand Vacuum, BH50015 (Kitchen)
I got this little vac for picking up hair and bits of crud on our new white laminate flooring in the living & dining rooms. I was also hoping to use it for vacuuming the stairs and sofa, and for vacuuming under furniture. I've had it for a month now, so I'll give you my two cents.

Suction is just ok, poor compared to a regular vacuum, but you can't expect much from a handheld, I guess. I was surprised at how loud it is, because no one else mentioned that in a review. The noise is very irritating. The charge lasts 15 minutes as promised, which I find to be adequate for its intended use; I couldn't put up with the noise for longer than 15 minutes anyway. A full charge only takes an hour or two.

It works pretty good for vacuuming stuff off of the floor or hardwood stairs. It does not have enough suction to vacuum much of anything from the sofa fabric and I haven't bothered to try vacuuming car seats because I know it would never work.

The unit has a fairly sizable diameter and the nozzle slants downward toward the front. This unfortunate design means that the vacuum can't be used to reach more than a few inches under furniture, which is a real drawback.

The dirt cup gets full quickly, but can be emptied easily. I shake the filter and tap it over the garbage can and that seems to work ok.

There is a little "crevice tool" that can swing up over the nozzle which basically just gives you a smaller nozzle opening. Then there is a little bristle brush that extends from the crevice tool. The brush slides back just as soon as it comes in contact with anything, so it is worthless unless you duct tape it in place.

The vacuum is more convenient than a dust pan and whisk broom because of its slightly longer reach, because I can use it one-handed, and because I don't have to empty it into the trash immediately like a dust pan. And unlike a whisk broom, it doesn't send dust or hair airborne and I don't struggle to get the last bit of dirt of the floor. It is obviously much more convenient than getting out a full size vacuum. That convenience factor is really the saving grace of this vacuum and I do find that I use about once per day on average and my floor stays cleaner because of it. But it is not nearly as useful or versatile as it could have been with a little more attention to design, so I only rate it 3 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and convenient, August 23, 2009
This review is from: Hoover LiNX Cordless Hand Vacuum, BH50015 (Kitchen)
I have both the hand-vac and stick-vac (Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum) of the beautiful Hoover Platinum LINX series. I've used them for weeks now, and I find the stick-vac to be about perfect in every way - it's wonderful not having to drag around a cord everywhere, and it's light, quiet, and actually fun to use. The hand-vac is not perfect, but it's still an excellent cleaning tool - it's powerful, stylish, and runs for a relatively long time.

The hand-vac's one "con", as others have mentioned, concerns the nozzle with its extendable crevice tool and brush. Even when the crevice tool is extended, it is still not long enough to get into the spaces beside the seats in my car, and the brush extension will not stay in place if any pressure is applied. (But I appreciate the tip about using a rubber band - great idea.)

To empty, these two vacs are the easiest and neatest bagless types I've ever had (and I have three cats!). These vacs don't need the messy brushing or knocking the dirt out, repeated washings, and endless dryings that the filters in other vacs do. (Both my Eureka Optima floor-vac and my old B&D DustBuster hand-vac were quite messy and inconvenient to empty and clean up.)

I have two batteries and chargers, one for each of my LINX vacs, and that works out great. If I ever run out of power using one (which is seldom because these batteries are relatively long-lasting), the other one is ready to go with plenty of power to continue. And the battery and charger sets look like futuristic art! They're beautiful!

UPDATE, 11 June 2010: The charger for this unit stopped functioning (but the battery and the vac itself are fine). When I called the 1-877 number on the label affixed to the underside of this hand-vac, the Hoover representative immediately said that they would send me a new charger (at no charge to me...no pun intended) - all I needed to provide them was the MFG code imprinted on the bottom of the charger unit. Hoover did not ask for anything else except my mailing address to receive the replacement charger. That is excellent service. I received the brand-new charger in less than a week!

I purchased the hand held and stick vac. I cringed at spending this kind of money on a dustbuster and a small vacuum, but really wanted a quality set that would hold up. Unfortunately I spent an outrageous amount of money for something that didn't even hold up a year. I sent both of them in to be repaired (seemingly under warranty) within a week of each other. I get the phone call that neither one fell under manufacturer defect and it would cost me $245 to fix them. How is it not manufacturer defect when the engine on the handheld burns up in less than a year? Although we use our vacuums quite a bit, we clean the filters and perform regular maintenance on them. There is no good reason for these to have failed so quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars No other hand vac can touch this sucker!, August 6, 2009
This review is from: Hoover LiNX Cordless Hand Vacuum, BH50015 (Kitchen)
Repeat after me: 18 volt lithium ion battery.

Yes, the cyclonic action of the cup on this vac has a lot to do with how well it works. But you need power to make that happen, and you need a manly battery to get that kind of power.

There is NO cordless hand vac, anywhere, that can do what this thing does.

I've used a corded hand vac in the garage for years. It has the power to do what vacs are supposed to do. Dust Busters have never been anything but cheap garbage until this thing came along.

Now, it still won't keep up with my monster garage vac. But in the kitchen, on the basement stairs, every place where there are little messes that need to be sucked up, this little wonder will do the job right.

If you can afford it, get this thing. It beats hauling out the big vac and attaching the hose every time.

This is an OK vacuum. A bit expensive but I would probably buy it again for the convenience and the long-life battery. I also have the standup model and the batteries interchange.

Don't care for their fold down brush. It keeps collapsing.

I have small hands and find it difficult to open the dirt collector. Have to sit down and do it with two hands.

The unit is easy to hold and not too noisy.

Does a good job of vacuuming and holds charge well. BUT, comes with NO instructions (must be downloaded). Separate downloaded battery instructions do not say whether or not to leave battery on charger (email inquiry says to run vacuum battery down and then recharge). Dirt cup is impossible to remove with one hand. I have to put the vacuum between my knees and wrench it loose with both hands. Re-attaching dirt cup is also quite a trick. Someone needs to re-think this machine, especially given the big price tag.

2.0 out of 5 stars Battery busted, December 7, 2010
This review is from: Hoover LiNX Cordless Hand Vacuum, BH50015 (Kitchen)
The vacuum itself, when it worked, was fine. Ours worked for about a month, and then the battery stopped charging. Although the battery was under warranty, it was a total hassle to replace and had I known it was going to take 4 brutally long customer service calls and me fedexing the old battery to Hoover I would have just bought a new battery for $47 the day after it died. Two stars for sucking more time than dirt.
