Good Looks - don't count,
This review is from: Hoover Portable Canister Vacuum, Bagged, S1361 (Kitchen)
Purchased this Hoover 3 months ago. I currently have a Eureka Mighty Mite and decided that I wanted to have another lightweight canister vacuum for downstairs. I happened to come across the Hoover Bright Orange canister vacuum and thought it was so neat looking, and since it was a Hoover - how could you go wrong.Well the problems are as follows: suction - fair at best; wand connecting to the head won't stay put - it keeps coming apart no matter how hard you push the wand into the head; the bag - since I wasn't getting any suction I checked the bag and found that though it was only half-filled, the bottom of the bag had disintegrated - this happened twice. I'm not sure if this was due to its close proximity to the filter/motor, but I have never had a bag do this on any other vacuum cleaner I've owned. Sorry to say, but it's a great looking vacuum, but that's the only thing going for it. Definitely buy the Eureka Mighty Mite if you're looking for a vacuum for light cleanups.

I love to look at my little orange hoover and it doesn't do a bad job of cleaning up a 1 bed apartment that includes hard wood floors and a shaggy rug. But!!! It is SO annoying to use because the "telescoping chrome wands" will not stay fixed together. You will spend half of your cleaning time putting the attachements together...and watch out when they fall they don't break something. I hope Hoover read these reviews and change this design fault. Until they do I recommend you go for something else.

Does what I expect a straight suction vacuum cleaner to do...,

I think this is a nice little vacuum cleaner for the price. I've used it 5 times now and not once have any of the wands come apart, (to be fair I've expected them to based on earlier reviews, as well as, an older small straight suction vac cleaner I have from Hoover which does this all the time and a Shark with the same problem that I just gave away).I've found the suction to be excellent for its size and amps,(I can only guess that an earlier reviewer's complaint about this wasn't taking into account that the bag was ripped, hence no suction), and I was surprised at what it did pick up on carpets. To be frank, I don't expect a straight suction vacuum cleaner of any brand to work on carpets beyond picking up the weekly dust. I bought this to compliment the Hoover S3765-040 Wind Tunnel Electronic bagless I bought recently, which is excellent (minus some personal nits I have on bagless vacs). Having two cats means a lot of loose hair on a daily basis, as well as, the dust from cat litter. Which is why I got this little guy. For me small vacs aren't meant to do the same as a $400.00 and up vacuum cleaner and I don't get why some reviewers seem to think they should. For me, this acts as a quickie cleaner that complements the power vac I have. It's not going to get the major cat hair off the carpets (that's why I have the Wind Tunnel), but it does get the stuff that a broom, Swiffer or powerstick isn't quite up to. I use this in my kitchen (hardwood flooring), to get the crumbs, cat hair, etc. that a Swiffer just can't keep up with. Especially with the 2 aforementioned cats. I use it on the first floor to pick up tracked litter and litter dust that accumulates quickly. I was surprised that this had enough suction to pick up some loose cat hair on the carpet and dirt tracked in from the garage as well, so I'm very pleased with this vac. I like that it's lightweight and easily carted between levels (and living in a 3 story townhouse, trust me, it gets annoying fast lugging a heavier vac up and down the steps). It allows me to stretch the time between "major" vacuuming days so for me, its a good machine. If you're looking for a vac to really clean shag or pile carpets then you have to get one with a power nozzle. If you want a small vac to clean the tiled or wood floors around the house, the inside of your car, and the cat litter muck, then this is a very good vac.

Bought this vac at a local store, it died within a month! And just after I'd finally found bags for the darn thing!

Everything You Need and Nothing You Don't,

I have a vacuum, but I don't like lugging it around when I just want to do some quick vacuuming so I've been keeping my eye out for a canister that will clean but is lightweight and goodlooking. This does the job and more! Pretty unexpectedly it's more powerful than I thought it would be and I does more than I thought I needed. :: Adjustable suction for when you want to clean the curtains, not lose them down the tube. But if you need full power, it's there. :: Attachments that go from cleaning bare floors (well!) and rugs (good!) to cracks and crevices - even the dust that collects on the top of my books. :: You don't want a vacumm cleaner that blows dust into the air, this one doesn't. The bag keeps the dirt inside it, then three other filters catch the rest. I'm not sure why reviewers are being so hard on this model. Maybe they're expecting things you can really only get with a cleaner several hundred dollars more. As for comments about atachments falling off, the attachments work fine - just make sure they're fully inserted and you'll be fine. P.S. With the amount of suction this canister has, the attachments it offers as well as being lightweight and easy to operate, I use it way more than I ever expected. How's that for a great review?

This vacuum cleaner is very cute and practical(you can vacuum under the furniture) but at 8 amps, it is not powerful enough for carpet. I bought mine at best Buy for less than $50 and returned it.

Great vacuum if you don't have carpet in your house. This thing has ok suction, but will not suck up anything off carpet. It depends upon only it's suction to vacuum capet as it has no rotating brush.I bought it this morning and it's already back at the store. I wouldn't buy it for $5 more or less $60-something.

We got this vacuum after a long search for a low priced canister. It was adorable, which caught my eye, and a Hoover which caught my husbands. We had wall to wall carpeting in our house then and it performed far better than we expected. It cleans up all pet hair, plus you can clean hard surfaces in a breeze. The handle does come off easily, which can be good and can be very frustrating. The bags are also kind of obnoxious, you have to order them from Hoovers web site. But theyre inexpensive and really great for allergies. My husband and I have both noticed a marked improvement in our dust allergy since getting this. I would definitely reccomend it to friends and family.

you get what you pay for. Almost every part of this poorly designed vac cleaner has a fault. so let's start:1) carpet/ floor nozzle doesn't stay in "brush setting" for hardwood floor 2) nozzle falls off 3) Connecting hose falls off the metal wand all the time and hits your toes/foot - ouch!! 4) cheap plastic hose twists and kinks off, resulting in loss of suction 5) the plastic body housing the vac mechanism constantly goes belly up everytime you manouvre it 6) cord got tangled inside housing after 8 months, I had to take the orange cover apart to fix it (harder than it sounds) 7) useless accessory brush - too small a footprint to do anything useful with it 8) poor suction even when it's turned up to MAX 9) holder for the wand broke off after 3 months, cheap plastic thing that's obviously not strong enough to withstand the torque of a long wand resting on it 10) So loud when it's going you better wear an earmuff if you don't want to go deaf prematurely DO NOT waste your hard earned 60 bucks on this piece of crap! |
