5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice if you're looking for value and ease of use
What you'll like best about this Hoover vacuum is that it's light weight (approximately 8 pounds) gives it a tremendous advantage over traditional cannister vacuum cleaners. This is most noticed if you're using it on stairs or carrying it out to the garage to vacuum the car.

Other great features are the extra-long vacuum hose (6-feet), and the 18-foot electrical cord...

2.0 out of 5 stars Low suction
I was hoping this would be a good lightweight vac for around the house, but I wish now I would have paid twice the price and bought something better. It does OK with crumbs and such but is lacking the power to clean drapes or furniture. Hoover makes a commercial version of the Portapower that has a lot more power. It comes with a 30ft cord, stainless steel wands, and has...

What you'll like best about this Hoover vacuum is that it's light weight (approximately 8 pounds) gives it a tremendous advantage over traditional cannister vacuum cleaners. This is most noticed if you're using it on stairs or carrying it out to the garage to vacuum the car.

Other great features are the extra-long vacuum hose (6-feet), and the 18-foot electrical cord. Both of these add to the item's ease of use.

Changing the bag is very easy, and this unit uses the Type R Hoover bag, so you can do quite a bit of vacuuming between changes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great little machine, October 27, 2001

This is a great little vacuum cleaner in that is lightweight, compact and has plenty of power. It takes type R disposable bags. The manufacturer offers cloth bags and another floor attachment. The floor / rug attachment is OK for rugs, but I think a smoother attachment would do a better job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Little Vacum, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Hoover S1420 Portapower II Vacuum (Kitchen)
I live in a studio apartment with one carpted room and the rest is bare linoleum. This vacum works very well for me, being a single person in a small apartment. The suction is not on par with large canister vacums and I do not recommend this product if you have kids or pets (I used to have a dog and this would not have done me any good in battling the dog hair), nor would it be good as the main vacum for a large house. This is not a heavy duty vacum.

It is a wonderful item for singles with smaller spaces or college students. It reaches evereywhere and picks up everyday dust and dirt along with spiderwebs and stray hairs that I shed when brushing my hair. Great on medium pile carpets or bare floors.

Only problem is that Type R bags are very hard to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Vacuum Cleaner, February 25, 2002

This review is from: Hoover S1420 Portapower II Vacuum (Kitchen)
I love this vacuum very much. Itis versitile, lightweight, and easy to manage. I recomend a canister vacuum cleaner over an upright anyday. Quite frankly uprights have a tendency to breakdown very quickly. This vacuum cleaner is the perfect thing for any family espically a large one like mine. My wife loves it. I give it five shiny gold stars.

This review is from: Hoover S1420 Portapower II Vacuum (Kitchen)
I was hoping this would be a good lightweight vac for around the house, but I wish now I would have paid twice the price and bought something better. It does OK with crumbs and such but is lacking the power to clean drapes or furniture. Hoover makes a commercial version of the Portapower that has a lot more power. It comes with a 30ft cord, stainless steel wands, and has a shoulder strap that makes cleaning furniture and drapes a breeze. You can use a cloth bag or the more low dust paper bag. If you're looking for something with just a little more power than a Dustbuster, the Portapower II is the one to get. Otherwise, go for the commercial model.
