great vacuum for the price,
By asco (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoover TurboPower WindTunnel Anniversary Upright Vacuum with Pet-Hair Tool, Self-Propelled, Bagged, UH50000 (Kitchen)
after reading many reviews from many different sources we decided to purchase this vacuum. we ended up getting it from costco as it was quite a bit cheaper than on amazon at the time. i have to say that we've been thrilled with this vacuum so far. it does a wonderful job on our carpet leaving no trace of dog hair behind. the dirt sensor is a fun addition although i'm not completely sure what it's thinking sometimes. the self-propel feature is great and works effortlessly with normal vauuming gestures gliding the vacuum along the floor with ease.
we were looking at some dyson vacuums as well but after going to the store and test driving both models the dyson vacuums, although great to look at, seemed heavy and awkward to use most of the time. the hoovers seemed to have a good vacuum feel to them. the set of attachments is also nice and are very easy to use.

Great Machine... Only One Concern,
By Daddy Bear (Atlanta) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoover TurboPower WindTunnel Anniversary Upright Vacuum with Pet-Hair Tool, Self-Propelled, Bagged, UH50000 (Kitchen)
I bought this as my wife wanted to have a machine that has the power of the bagless, without the messy transfer into the garbage. We have had two bagless vacuums, and overall they have turned out to be very nice machines, however, we have dogs and kids, and transferring pet hair and dirt into the trash was/is a daunting and disgusting task. My wife wanted something that she could easily operate, that was powerful, and had the ability to self-propel when she wanted it.
We picked this machine on blind faith, as there was little information on this at the time. It has turned out to be a great purchase. The joystick like nature of the self-propel takes a minute or two to get used to, but it is actually nice and responsive to the speed you are pushing it. My kids even want to help using this vacuum, because it is slightly like playing a video game. Here are the two negatives. One against Amazon, one against the product... 1. The vacuum is a little heavy compared to other vacuums, but it isn't the heaviest vacuum we have owned. Far from it. All self-propelled vacuums are a little heavier because of the extra equipment. 2. Amazon sent us an opened box machine. We realized it halfway into getting it ready. The cords were put back together with garbage twist ties, and the bags it comes with were loose at the bottom of the box. That surprised us as we have purchased many things from Amazon with no issue (TV, small appliances, etc). We tried it out and have had no issues, but I personally don't feel we should have paid full price on a vacuum that was open. We didn't have the time to return it for another. This is my concern as to the long-term effects of purchasing an open box.

An average sweeper that gets the job done.,

I sweep the house daily or at least every other day, and I have pros and cons about this sweeper. It has great side suction power and does a thorough job of removing dirt from the carpet. When sweeping hardwood flooring, the brushes don't spin, so that prevents laminate flooring from being marred with brush swirls. The on board tools are conveniently located and do not get in the way, and I love that the hose is already attached to the inside of the sweeper and doesn't require manual attachment. It's also easy to push even without the self propel feature engaged.
The main thing I HATE about the sweeper is that it leaves lines on the carpet like rake marks. It's not the brushes, so it doesn't matter what setting the sweeper is on. There is a plastic piece on the bottom of the sweeper that causes the streak marks. My husband is going to try filing them down to see if that will work to minimize the lines on the carpet. I like to see a blank slate on my plush carpet, so it drives me crazy to see all the marks this sweeper leaves! The cord is pretty long, but it's not as long as my previous Hoover sweeper, so that's a disappointment. My old Hoover's hose was long enough that I rarely needed to attach the extensions, but the hose on this sweeper is very short and requires you to attach the extensions. The problem is that the extensions fall out A LOT because they don't fit as tightly as they should. All in all, I'm happy with the overall appearance of this sweeper and the fact that it is good at removing dirt, PLUS it was in our price range. However the other cons of this sweeper will be a perpetual annoyance to me. If you can afford a sweeper that does not have these issues, go for it. If you can't, this sweeper will get the job done.

SOLID HOOVER,
By Gwen (Breckenridge, Co) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoover TurboPower WindTunnel Anniversary Upright Vacuum with Pet-Hair Tool, Self-Propelled, Bagged, UH50000 (Kitchen)
I thoroughly enjoy this vacuum. I had an Oreck and that was expensive and didn't have tools. I don't think the Oreck is worth it. I got this Hoover because my mom loves the self-propell and I have thick shaggy carpet in areas which made it hard to push the Oreck around without getting worn- out. I love the hoover I would even give it 5 stars except that it is heavy. I use the tools all the time and I have to manipulate this big heavy machine which is cumbersome but I have to say it is worth it to easily swith from vacuuming to tools and back. It makes the more expensive Oreck seem worthless. My hoover is a great vacuum but hard to carry upstairs. Get a lightweight hoover with tools and no self-propell if you think you want a great lighter vacuum. Must have tools. Never again the Oreck.

The Lawnmower of vacuums,
By Rob W. (East Bay, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoover TurboPower WindTunnel Anniversary Upright Vacuum with Pet-Hair Tool, Self-Propelled, Bagged, UH50000 (Kitchen)
This vacuum replaced the Oreck XL and the other expensive Riccar. All at $250.00 I dont understand the reviews "Great for the price" this vacuum rocks I Love it!
We have 5 children two dogs and 2700 square feet of carpet. Nobody mentioned that it has the best edge pickup of any other vac I've used and it dosent matter which side! Unlike the other brands that only give you one side for baseboards etc..this ones laid out correctly so either side will pick up nice and close to the edge thats a big plus.I mow through small toys, hair tie thingys, Dog hair "Fine yellow labrador kind" and this dude keeps suckin away pickin up everything in its path. Yes its heavy the oreck is nice and light, But this things self propelled and does twice the deep cleaning. Ok 14 stairs, I hate doing the stairs no easy way but the beater brush tool and nicely made hose make it bearable. All in All it would have got a 5 star except for the weight, Then it would have probably felt cheap if it was all lightweight plastic and got 4 for that...humm... This is a real world vacuum that wont cost a weeks pay and does a job above expectations no fancy euro name but heck I'll use that extra money for something else. Oh yeah 3 year warranty too. I Kinda think that if people paid MORE for it they would give it a better review.

I just got this product from an in-store retailer. It literally took me less than two minutes to install the handle, screw in two screws & remove a bit of tape! The unit came with many replacement bags, and one of them was already installed. Even on the "normal" setting, the unit did an awesome job sucking up my long-haired cat's hair. It is lighter than the old Hoover Wind Tunnel unit I purchased about eight years ago.
I like it. Now my poor Roomba can get a break!

This vacuum is what finally convinced my wife that an upright is better than a cannister. It was rated a Best Buy by unbiased Consumer Reports testers, and Hoover has a longtime reputation for quality and durability. We have indoor cats, and it does a great job on pet fur as well as dirt and dust. The HEPA filtration is a blessing. The price was right, and delivery was prompt. Highly recommended.

As with most previous models of Hoover uprights, this is a very good unit. The handle has been slightly improved and the accessories placed in a better position for quick swapping. The main improvement is the "pet hair" attachment. Coupled with an extension hose, it makes stair cleaning much easier and more efficient than previously possible. This is a small but nice improvement from the previous model.

Great vacuum,

Highly recommended in consumer reports so I bought it to replace a previous Hoover self-propelled vacuum. Does a very good job and the attachments work well, particularly the pet hair vacuum head. I recommend purchasing a longer flexible tube since the standard one doesn't stretch very far and knocks the vacuum over.

My son needed a vacuum and I decided to treat myself to a new Windtunnel and gift him with the old one. In 10 years the changes are subtle but welcomed. The cord is longer, softer and easier to wind, there are less crevices on the vacuum body to capture dirt, the machine is quieter but the same power that made me a fan of Hoover Windtunnel is still there. I am so glad I bought another Hoover.
