3.0 out of 5 stars Sucks great! Belts keep breaking
I really liked this vacuum the first time I used it. It is very powerful and does a good job cleaning. The cord is a little too short and the attachment hose is a little too short but I can get past that since its really lightweight and easy to carry up the steps. I can carry my son in one arm and the vacuum in the other.

The only drawbacks I've come...

This vacuum works really well. I was specifically looking for a vacuum that wasn't bag-less. Nearly all vacuums are now the canister type and thats fine until you have to empty them. For me, quickly changing a full dirty bag with a fresh clean one is much more convenient and sanitary. The bags provide high filtration to reduce airborne allergens and they are far less expensive than the special air filters some vacuums require. This vacuum is light and easy to maneuver. It provides different height adjustments for different types of carpets. It has an array of onboard tools which connect to a suction hose. Performance from this auxiliary hose is good but the hose itself is rather short for extensive vacuuming. I really like the performance of this vacuum, it works better than any we have ever had before. It's truly a bargain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, reasonably priced vacuum cleaner., August 12, 2005

This was one of the smaller, cheaper vacuum cleaners recommended by Consumer Reports, and that was the reason we bought it for my son's studio apartment. We'd first bought a cheap Eureka, but it was awful, hard to push and didn't clean. This one is a world of difference. It cleans well and has good suction.
The one negative thing, which can be said of all similar vacuum cleaners, is the length of the hose. It's just a bit short to easily reach places unless the vacuum cleaner is right there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money!, January 12, 2006

We purchased this vac after owning previous Hoover products. We chose this model because of its value, and the fact that it uses BAGS, which are a superior way to collect dirt. (We'd rather spend a couple bucks on a bag rather than cleaning out some dust pail and changing expensive "HEPA" filters.) And although we have only used it a few times, here are some initial conclusions.

Positives:
* Great power. Who needs a self propelled vac when this unit's power pulls it along for you?
* Great Suction. Anyone with four pets like us can appreciate this unit's ability to pick up pet hair.
* Great value. I haven't been able to find a better vac for the money. Most vacuum cleaners are terribly overpriced anyway. (Can you say "Dyson"???)
* Ease of assembly. A Phillips screwdriver and five minutes is all it takes. And ours came preloaded with a bag, with another spare in the box. Nice touch.
* Bright headlight! I put this in here just in case anyone actually cares about a vacuum cleaners headlight! Still, it did illuminate dark areas in corners and under tables.

Negatives:
* You get what you pay for. Despite it's features and performance, it's still a $60.00 vacuum, folks. You can tell by the cheapness of the plastic brackets for the tools and cord.
* The cord could be longer. The power cord appears shorter than our 10 year old vac. And the way the cord stores on the back of the unit is inconvenient.
* The handle of our vac was assembled in such a way that the platic edge was quite sharp, right on the webbing of your hand. Ouch! Hopefully this was an isolated case.

In conclusion, we are very satisfied with our purchase and believe the unit to be a tremendous value. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a dandy, November 21, 2005
This review is from: Hoover U5145-900 Tempo WidePath Bagged Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I received this model free with the purchase of Stainmaster carpet. I did not expect much after checking its list price.
HO HO. It does a dandy job on the cat litter and cat hair which track into my carpet. With an additional swipe along the walls and stair edges with its edging tool, I have really clean rugs for a change!
I have spent two and three times as much for no better performance. And I really appreciate its air-filtering bag design and the indicator which tells you the bag is full.
My house has few electrical outlets. I will be using a 20 foot extension cord to be able to get into all the corners without having to continually unplug the cord. I recommend this model to you enthusiastically!

The hoover is an excellent vacuum...The unit is inexpensive, has great suction and power...The hoover uses replaceable dust bags, which can be a plus for people with allergies but the replaceable bags add to the units cost,overtime...The unit has been highly rated by a major consumer magazine, and is a best buy...I highly recommend the hoover U5145-900...4.5 stars...The power cord could be longer...If it had been,i would have rated this 5 stars...I thank you Stewart L.

I debated purchasing the Tempo, there were a few other vacuums in my price range. I read the reviews of all vacuums in my range and the Tempo got great reviews, none of the others did and many of the more expensive vacuums had really poor feedback. I have had my Tempo vacuum for about a month and it is awesome, the electric cord and hose could be longer, but my main concern is suction, and weight which are both great. I also want to mention I am moving from a fifth generation kirby, so there is a big price difference but I actually like the Tempo better.

5.0 out of 5 stars great vacuum!!, April 9, 2006

After researching quite a bit I decided to go for hoover U5145-900. I did not want to have a vacuum that requires the expensive filters that you need to change every few months at $10-20 a pop. The hoover bag system is good enough for my breathing needs. I received the vacuum last week and my wife and I are quite please. It is about 17 pounds but slides quite easily. The higher end models usually are 22-25 lbs which is why we don't clean the stair too often. This vacuum has a special handle to help you grab the the vacuum in the stairs without breaking your back. The suction is quite good too. So good that the machine actually propels itself forward. For the price range you cannot go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Vacuum!, April 5, 2006

I was a little bit nervous about ordering a vacuum online, especially since the price was so cheap. But I have always been pleased with Hoover products and I wasn't disappointed this time either. This vacuum is fantastic! The suction power is amazing and I was pleasantly surprised that the noise level is more quiet than other vacuums I've used. In other reviews it was mentioned that the attachment hose is not long enough and I do agree with that but I like that it comes with two extensions rather than one as with most other vacuums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pay for what you get, February 17, 2006

This review is from: Hoover U5145-900 Tempo WidePath Bagged Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Once received at home my wife had no difficulty putting the machine together. Although there were very few parts, the directions were very understandable. At first use, she didn't really like where the on/off switch was located. I agree. It wouldn't seem too difficult for the company to put the switch on the handle for easy reach. The vacuum had plenty of suction and appeared to pick up dirt. The suction wand isn't very long which limits its reach capabilties. The suction however was satisfactory. The extension cord, in my estimation, was long enough. I understand longer is better but, it just makes it easier to tangle, catch on furniture and winding it back on the machine (which doesn't have alot of room for a monster length of cord anyway). For the quality, its what you get for the price. Would I buy another? Yes of course, but in hoping that the company would make a few minor changes based on the customer surveys its recieved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Vacuum for the price!, March 16, 2006
This review is from: Hoover U5145-900 Tempo WidePath Bagged Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I am so pleased with the power of this vacuum. I have gone through 4 vacuums in the last two years. After being disappointed over and over again with the weakness of the ones that I previously purchased, I did a little research. I found this vacuum cleaner had very good reveiws and was moderately priced. I was so surprised when I first used this vacuum. The suction is amazing! This is one of the smartest purchases that I've ever made. Highly recommend!
