Great vaccum--It really sucks,
By
This review is from: Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
This is a great vaccum in terms of sucking power. It picks up dirt well and really perks up our tired old carpet. When I first got the vaccum, I treated the "dirt finder lights" feature as sheer gimmick. But I've come to like it. The hose on this unit is extremely flexible and extends to several feet. With the extension attachments, I can leave the vaccum on the bottom of the stairs and reach up to 5 or 6 steps up.A couple of minor things I don't like about this unit: You connect an attachment to the hose by pushing it on--no actual mechanism that snaps or clicks in place to keep the attachment on the hose. So very frequently I have to re-attach the attachment as it falls off during the vaccuming. Also, to use the hose, one plugs it out of the "seat" (vaccumed dust gets sucked up through the "seat" tube into the hose and then into the bag). But one has to push the "seat cover" tight so that dust does not get blown out of the "seat" itself during vaccuming. For all the allergy prevention measures Hoover put into this vaccum, somehow Hoover didn't bother to find a better way to ensure that vaccumed dust gets into the bag. These may be standard features with all Hoover uprights, and other people may not find them as inconvenient. All in all, though, this vaccum does suck, really well.

I love this vacuum!!!,

I bought this vacuum because the other brand vacuum I had after just 1 year wouldn't suck anymore. It has tremendous sucking power and will suck up anything and it won't get clogged. It has the dirt warning light which is wonderful; half the time I think that the floor is clean but the vacuum always finds more dirt that I can't see. I have recommended it to everyone and everyone that has bought one just loves it. It is a bit loud but all vacuums that work are. I would never buy any vacuum that isn't made by Hoover. If you try this vacuum you will love it.

Annoying Problems!! Do your research!!,

This review is from: Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I bought this model to replace my old Hoover of 10 years thinking - hey they must have PERFECTED vacuums by now!! WRONG!! First let me say they are bragging about the long attachment hose...then why does my vacuum tip over whenever I use it even when Im not stretching that far away???...also to use the attachment hose you have to pull the hose out of a hole and close the flap to that hole or dirt comes out of it when you vacuum...I cant tell you how many times I forgot to close that flap...I dont know who designed that - but they should be fired. Also the attachments (the two rod extenders) tend to come apart on their own with just gentle pulling. I also find that the dusting brush has such short bristles its really annoying, you know its not that good on mini-blinds and other cracks and crevices. I chose a bag vacuum because my experience with bagless was that its very nasty to clean out those containers sometime - I like as little contact with the dirt as possible. When changing the bag on this vacuum its a little difficult and a little dirt spills out - but that was also my experience on my old bag vacuum - I was just hoping they could have improved that somehow in the last 10 years...overall my old vacuum was better and Im kicking myself for getting rid of it. This model picks up the dirt and hair sure enough but the problems are annoying. If I was shopping all over again I would looke for a model without these same flaws. That said the dirt finding feature is okay but Im not sure how accurate it is and whether its worth it or not. The full bag indicator is not always acurate. And even with the problems of changing a bag I still think that its better than having to clean out a bag free collection cup. I wish you better luck shopping for your vacuum than I had with mine.

I will never buy another Hoover,

Hoover used to be made by Maytag, and had great reputation.I bought this machine and at first was so happy. But the snake like pathway soon proved to be the achille's hill. After 4 or 5 uses, it will be clogged up and couldn't suck anymore. Then the motor died after only a year, just outside of warranty. At the repair shop, there were tons of hoover vaccum with the same problem. I paid $100 for the replacement motor , and it died after a month. In San Jose, there used to be two official Hoover Repair Center, they are both gone. I took the machine to another shop, and the mechanic there showed he too has too many to count repairs of Hoover to do. I gave up at that point and bought a German SeboX4. That is the best vaccum.

Disappointed,

I am pretty disappointed with this vacuum. I am planning on returning this one, but just haven't decided what else to get. This one is extremely LOUD and gets HOT (where the filters are)! There are other flaws, too, like the power cord is too low - I'm constantly bending over to pick it up; the tools hook into the hose, but if you don't close the "flap", you'll have dust everywhere! It also doesn't stand upright when using the tools.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
Just bought the Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner for my Aunt, whom has two indoor dogs. Although she vacuumed regularly with her old canister vacuum, it just wasn't picking up the hair. This vacuum definitely did the job! Just vacuuming her small living room filled up the HEPA rated 3M Filtrete bag. Thanks to the Embedded DirtFinder™ display, I was able to tell when the many years of dirt was sucked out of the carpet.
The 3M Filtrete bag feels like cloth and is well constructed. Hoover offers a cheaper Allergan bag, but it looks more like a paper bag and doesn't trap as much dust and dirt. I suffer from dust and pet allergies and yet was unaffected by the air discharged through the 3M Filtrete bag, definitely worth the extra money. I even removed the two sponge filters that come with the Hoover, because there is nothing that they can trap, since all of the dust and dirt stays in the 3M bag. My aunt, whom is always skeptical, was amazed at how new her 20-year-old carpet looked. Although the vacuum seems sturdy enough, I can't vouch for its longevity, but at Amazon's price with discounts and free shipping, even if it only last's a year, I feel that I got my money's worth. I will definitely buy another one for my house, to replace my bagless Eureka Cyclone HEPA vacuum. The attachments are a bit cheaply made. I removed them and the plastic compartment door to make the vacuum as light as possible for my aunt to use. The cord is extra long and would reach across a large area.

Do NOT buy this vacuum!,

This review is from: Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I couldn't afford a Dyson or an Oreck, so we did our research and found Hoover to be next on the list. I have a bad back, so we even sprung for the self-propel feature. I used the vauum ten times and the belt broke along with the motor. It was still under warranty, so I called Hoover Customer Service. Their service is terrible! It took them over a month to respond to my calls, letters, and e-mails. In the end, they still weren't helpful and we took the vacuum back to the store.
It had decent sucking power and was relatively easy to use. The weight made it hard to manuever and the fact that it kept tipping over whenever I used the attachments really got on my nerves. In my opinion, Hoover is no longer a name of quality and I don't recommend them for ANYTHING!

Nothing like my old Hoover.,

This review is from: Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
After a year of owning and using this vacuum we are very dissappointed in it. We have not had any brake downs like others but it just does not seem well designed. The unit is EXTREMELY LOUD especially when I am using the hose. The units tips easy when using the hose. Where the belt is to drive the brushes it does not pick up dirt so you have to retrace that step every time. I also have a lot of trouble with it trying to eat thinner carpets and other things I am trying to clean. We also have noticed the design flaws other have pointed out here. None of these things were a problem with the old Hoover Spirit which was a wonderful machine. The Windtunnel Supreme does clean very well with the exception noted above. We cannot return ours at this point but I would suggest you could do much better.

My wife came home with this vacuum one day, all happy to have a more modern vacuum than my old Kirby D80 Sanitronic from the early 60's (avocado!). After returning the first one due to a broken plastic wheel (at which point I became unimpressed), she came home with the replacement and started vacuuming our carpet. Within less than an hour, she was cursing this thing up one side and down the other. Why? Everything (dirt) has to pass through a flex hose with a couple sharp bends in its routing, and it's there that you have to take the hose apart and unclog a snake-like accumulation of carpet fibers and dust and dirt. Again and Again and Again and Again. What a total and totally frustrating design flaw! Other impressions: The self-propelled feature is nice, (albeit unnecessary on such a lightweight machine); The "clean indicator" light is pure gimmickry (if you're looking at it, you're not looking where you should be looking while vacuuming!); The hose is waaay too short for using the supplied attachments, causing the machine to try to cuddle up with you and/or run you over whenever you pull the hose to reach your target (which is often!); There is unimpressive suction available via the supplied tools (even after removing the latest dirt-plug;-) Bottom line, this is a good-looking machine whose looks promise way more than it can possibly deliver. Avoid.

Waste of Time and Money,
By Robin Allen (Clover, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
Bought the Hoover Windtunnel Supreme two years ago. It performed okay for the first month or so. But the need to stop and unclog the hose, at least two or three times before I finish vacuuming, buying replacement belts for the power head (at least ten belts have been replaced in two years- my husband is a mechanic and he has a difficult time installing them)and the bags. As long as you change the bag before it is half-full, the vacuum will suck (if it isn't clogged). Both my sister and mother have this vacuum as well- all of us are looking for new vacuums to buy.
