Thrilled, but Appalled!,
By
This review is from: Hoover U5720-900 WindTunnel Bagless (Kitchen)
The vacuum is the thrilling part. The stuff that appears in the cannister is appalling! My previous vacuum was old and even when it was new, I was never really impressed with it. It was time to replace it. RESEARCH - I did plenty of research - Consumer Reports, other online rating sources and of course, reviews written by customers here on Amazon. This model was the best of the bagless, which is what I wanted. There were 2 Windtunnels rated slightly better which used bags. Anyway, this is the one that looked best for me. SUCTION - When I brought it home, it hadn't been long since I'd last vacuumed. I looked at the carpet and thought it didn't look bad, but I still wanted to try it out. I vacummed one room and then took a look at the cannister. Oh, my gosh! This vacuum really sucked (in a good way). Where did all that stuff come from? It must have pulled dirt from the floor below. Surely all that dirt and dust and hair and fluff wasn't in that one room! I refused to vacuum any more until my husband came home. He had to see this. We have several cats and one inside dog, but I still wasn't expecting to see so much dirt! DUST IN THE AIR - I wanted a bag with a Hepa filter since I'm allergic to dust. After vacuuming a room with the U5720-900, the air is great. I can breathe just fine - no sniffles at all, unlike with my previous vacuum. However, emptying the cannister indoors (on any bagless vacuum) might not be a good idea. I take the cannister to a garbage can in our garage to empty it. so dust is not re-introduced to the indoor air. Then, since our house is apparently so filthy, I also take the Hepa out of the cannister (which is fast & simple)and shake out the extra dust. The instructions say you really don't need to do this each time, but, with all the dust in there, I think it's a good idea. ATTACHMENTS - Consumer Reports only gave the attachments on this vacuum a GOOD, but I find them wonderful and simple. I love how they are arranged (easily accessible) and I love that the hose stays ready to use for quick pick ups. The only thing to do is choose which head you need or sometimes add an extension. The suction is good. EFFORT - It's easy to push - it practically pulls itself along. Bottom Line - I love it!

I purchased this model from [Amazon.com] a few months ago. Less expensive than Hoover's own factory store near where I live. This cleaner has some very good reviews. HOWEVER, after two uses (in my home) mine went to the local Hoover store for repair. (the brushes were loosing a lot of their bristles) They replaced the brushes under warranty and I was told by the stores repair man (Oh yeah, they had to redesign the brushes, the original design did that). The repair took about three weeks (they had to order the replacement brushes and the warehouse was out of stock) Three calls to Hoover national customer assistance without the courtesy of even a reply. Several e-mails to Hoover headquarters customer support e-mail address with no reply. I got the cleaner back and was given a free replacement filter cartridge for my trouble. Two more uses and the gear box for the brushes burned out with a lot of evil smelling smoke from the melted plastic case. Back to the Hoover store. Another warranty repair. Now I have it back and will see what happens next. NEVER AGAIN WOULD I BUY A HOOVER. They seem not to care at all about customers or customer service. If this was a typical sample of their product quality they need some heavy duty help.

Good vacuum, pain to clean out the canister,

This is a really great vacuum and really sucks all the dirt out of the carpet. Seems to get all the dog hair up off our carpet. The only problem is emptying the cannister. Of course, this might not be different than any other bagless vacuum. The filter gets caked w/ dirt and grime and we have to shake and pound to get it all off. So, the dust goes everywhere and I am sneezing for an hour. We have to empty it every time because of our dogs, otherwise we would get one w/ a bag. It does work very well at getting the dirt up though.

Works Well but Has Reliability Issues,

We purchased our Hoover vacuum probably about two years ago. It offers a ton of features, including a cleanable filter and a separate HEPA filter. There is also a washable exhaust filter. This vacuum cleaner works incredibly well, pulling all kinds of dirt out of the carpet and off our vinyl floors. There are a lot of nice features, including a very bright front light, and various attachments to allow you to vacuum furniture and the edges of walls.
Given the Hoover name and all the wonderful features, as well as the cost, I thought this vacuum cleaner was going to be an outstanding buy. We replaced a Kirby vacuum cleaner with this Hoover with the expectation that the Hoover would last us for at least 5 or more years. Unfortunately, less than two years into using it, the Hoover gave up the ghost when the motor smoked. We treated the Hoover well, emptying the can and knocking dust out of the filter weekly. We rarely ran the vacuum longer than a half hour at a time, and vacuumed only common household dirt. Thus, this vacuum cleaner should have been in an environment where it lived for a very long time. We are vacuuming a bare floor when the vacuum started smoking and the smell of a burning motor started to fill the room. Replacement motors run from $80 to $130, plus the labor to replace them. We will likely opt for a new vacuum cleaner given the cost of replacing the motor. We were going to go with another Hoover, probably a self-propelled given the difficulty we had with pushing this vacuum, but after seeing a substantial number of negative reviews for self-propelled Hoover vacuums and for Hoover vacuums in general, including others with motors that have burned up, we are wondering whether we should go back to Sears. We've had two Sears canister vacuums, with our current one more than ten years old and running strong.

Great product & value!,

It had only been a week since vacuuming when I brought this home. We have no kids & we don't wear shoes in the house so our carpet stays pretty clean, so we thought! I was amazed at what this vacuum picked up. Obviously cleans deeper than my previous Hoover (which was ready for retirement, even though it picked up anything visual on the carpet). Even without being self-propelled, it moved with great ease. Excellent product!

This is the best vacuum I have ever used. It was delieved about one hour after I just vacuumed with my old vacuum. So I put it to the test by revacuuming the room I just vacuumed. It was nothing short of amazing how much stuff it picked up off my floor that I though was clean..

Stinky!,
This review is from: Hoover U5720-900 WindTunnel Bagless (Kitchen)
It actually started off as a good vacuum...Good suction and I liked the bagless feature...But not even six months after I had bought it, it started stinking up the whole house with the smell of burning rubber. I did everything I could to try and fix it, but nothing worked. I returned that one for another (identical) one and about nine months later the exact same thing happened. This time I am dumping it in the trash and buying a completely different brand. I gave it two stars because it worked pretty well for the first few months, but unless you are a vacuum repair man, I wouldn't recommend this one.

We bought this after moving into our new home...new house=new dirt=new vacuum...lol...well needless to say i was thrilled to turn it on and use it for the first time...vacuuming was enjoyable...the first time anyway!!! After that the vacuum couldnt be used for more than 10 minutes before it would overheat and turn itself off...and not able to run again for 20+ minutes!!...Nothing like trying to clean your house and the vacuuming alone would be a all day thing...i was VERY disappointed :(

7 Years Old and Thriving on Neglect,

My bagless Hoover does the same fantastic job vacuuming up pet hair, dirt and fluff that it did when it was new. Handles a range of carpet types, including heavily shedding new carpeting, and an hour at a go is standard in my 2-story home. I admit I'm terrible about replacing filters - I'm still using the original set. The vacuum is sturdy without being overly heavy. If I smell a burning odor, or begin to feel like the vacuum just gained 20lbs, I realize it's time to change the vac belt. This is so rare I end up having to look up the model number every time. Another great feature is the power cable - it's grooved along the length, so it doesn't tangle easily, and is heavy-duty enough to withstand being accidentally caught in the brush. Once or twice. I love it.

This vacuum works very well. Despite what Consumer Reports says. We tried this one side by side at another store. We also demo'd Kenmore, Dirt Devil, and Panasonic. We used to have a Phantom Fury bagless. Great Vacuum and after three years of heavy usage(entire house 2-3 times a week)was finally giving up. With lots of dog and cat hair a bagless is easy to use. Living on a farm it seems that dirt and sand gets tracked in as well. The day we went to get this I had just vacuumed using the Fury. The Hoover sucked up stuff I couldn't believe. Yechh. Was that in the carpet?!? It is a noisey vacuum but it is easy to manouver, access to the canister is easier than other brands, suction on the hose is very strong and it made our carpeting look and FEEL like new after 4 years of wear and tear. The filters are easy to remove and cheaper to replace. For example our Fury costs about 89.00 every 6 months. With simple maintence these should last 6 months and only cost about half. After 1 month of useage I don't think I would change a thing.
