Hoover Disappoints,
By Kathryn (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoover U6637-900 Self Propelled Bagless Windtunnel Upright (Kitchen)
I bought a Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Bagless with Powered Hand Tool (Model U6637-960) in July 2007. I was reasonably happy with it until the motor burned out last week - just 4 months past the warranty date. I have a two-bedroom apartment; this Hoover received very moderate use. Of course I checked for problems with the roller, belts, and visible clogs. The dirt cup had been recently emptied. The next step would have been to take it to a dealer for repair.
I'm finished with Hoovers. I now have a Bissell Momentum Bagless (Model 82G7-1) that I quite like, so far. It is much lighter weight than the Hoover, and easier to maneuver. One of the features I liked about the Hoover was the powered hand tool attachment. The Bissell has the same type of attachment (TurboBrush). Suction through both the base the attachment hose is very good - better than the Hoover. The dirt cup is separate from the filter (unlike the Hoover) and easier to remove and empty. On the down side, the Bissell's dirt cup is smaller and has to be emptied frequently. I paid [...] for the Hoover (Costco, with coupon). I paid [...] for the Bissell (Kohl's, on sale with coupon). Where to dispose of my disabled Hoover? For people in the Chicago area, this information might be of interest: Abt Electronics & Appliances (Glenview, IL) has an appliance recycling facility. Another company picks up the appliances from Abt, and either fixes the used appliances for resale or recycles them. For more information, go to the [...] website and search on "Recycling".

This vacuum is okay, but not worth what it cost, in my opinion. It doesn't clean any better then a cheap 59.00 vacuum we had to get for upstairs because the Hoover weighs a ton. Yes, it's self propelled, but to move it from one area to another is hard because it's very heavy.I wouldn't buy one again.

overall not bad for the price,

I think the vacuum is pretty good for the price. It cleans great and the tool attachments also works very well. As for dumping out the container...I have used a couple of other bagless type vacuums and this one would rate about in the middle for messyness. As long as you spin the hepa filter inside the canister unit, it is not that bad.
I have a small problem with the self propelled not shutting off, but otherwise I like it allot. One draw back is that it does not work on throw rugs, it will suck up the rugs, even the heavier ones. |
