4.0 out of 5 stars Hoover does better with their vacuums than their bags
First the complaint - these bags are awfully pricey considering that they fill up so fast. The bag is too big for the compartment it's supposed to fit into, so you have to fold it over at the top and bottom to get it to fit into the allotted space.

Changing the bag is a big hassle because when you pull the old bag off, it's full of all that fine dust you were trying...

First the complaint - these bags are awfully pricey considering that they fill up so fast. The bag is too big for the compartment, so you have to fold it over at the top and bottom to get it to fit into the allotted space. Despite having owned this model vacuum for seven years, I still need three hands to get the corners of the over-sized bag tucked into place before slamming the compartment shut.

Changing the bag is a dirty bit of business, because when you pull the old bag off, all that super-fine dust at the top goes *POOF* and escapes from the bag's opening . We've taken to putting the vacuum on the back porch before opening up the bag compartment to keep dust out of our home.

I see a name brand competitor has come up with a solution to this by putting a little trap door thingie by the bag's opening, so when you pull the bag off the vacuum, all the dust doesn't fly out of the bag and go *POOF*.

Okay - the positive - these Hoover paper bags do a decent job of trapping fine dust particles, but I do wish they'd figure out how to make bag removal and installation easier. Or just make the bag a different shape so you're not contorting it to get it into the allotted space.

More recently, I've started using Filtrete (3M) bags. Made of cloth, they're lined with an electrostatically charged media which captures dust and dirt down to .3 microns. Because they're cloth (instead of stiff paper, like these bags), they're much easier to install into the Hoover vacuum.

Changing the bag is a big hassle because when you pull the old bag off, it's full of all that fine dust you were trying to keep out of the house and it all goes *POOF* when you try to delicately remove the bag from the vacuum.

Okay - the positive - The Hoover bags do a superior job of trapping fine and itty-bitty dust particles. But I do wish they'd figure out how to make bag removal and installation easier. Or just make the bag a different shape so you're not contorting it to get it into the allotted space.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For, October 14, 2004

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoover WindTunnel Allergen Filter Bag, 4010100Y (Kitchen)
This is the first Amazon review I have written but after reading some of the negative reviews on this item, I had to add my 2 cents worth. Although expensive, the price here is still $3 less than I found anywhere else (stores and the internet). This is the lowest price I have found these bags selling for (you get 3 bags in the pac). If you have allergies, you will appreciate spending a little more for a bag that really does trap the fine dust particles, etc. I do not have a problem installing or removing the bag. No dust escapes when I remove the bag.

I would also rather pay the shipping charges to have items delivered to my front door than driving around town, especially when you add in the time it takes you to shop, the cost of gasoline these days, and the risk of an accident when you drive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable, July 21, 2001
This review is from: Hoover WindTunnel Allergen Filter Bag, 4010100Y (Kitchen)
Ok, the bag fills up fast, but then that's because the system does such a terrific job. One bag lasted two weeks, but then the cleaner itself gives an indication when the area is still dirty, so you tend to be more careful in vacuuming.Bag replacement is a bit clumsy but no more so than most machines. I had no trouble removing the bag and not spilling its contents. Yes, you have to fold the top and bottom over when you install it but that's because it unfolds when it fills up. Expense? Most vacuum cleaner bags are too expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product, price on Amazon is the best, May 13, 2008

I've owned my Hoover Windtunnel for about 3 years now. Type Y bags are between difficult and impossible to find replacement for....especially at WalMart. Amazon has, no doubt, the best price. The product is described quite well in the other Customer Reviews.... the bags work great.....they are a bit expensive..... they do tend to fill up quickly, but I own 3 dogs, Golden Retrievers, and I expect with their shedding I would look for the bag to fill quicker than usual..... When I replace the bag, I've found that if I place the machine on a low table, and lower the handle as low as it will go... almost flat, then the bag is horizontal, I can remove the bag quite easily with a minimum of dust spillage. I had some generic bags which came with a small wide piece of clear Scotch tape which one would use to seal the full bag. This feature is great when I am vacuuming for fleas........... but the Hoover Genuine product doesn't have this tape so I use a small piece of Scotch shipping tape to seal things up. I miss this feature. 5 Star Review is appropriate.

This review is from: Hoover WindTunnel Allergen Filter Bag, 4010100Y (Kitchen)
I use these for my Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright Vacuum. They're pretty standard/easy to replace. I've been told they're a little small for vacuum cleaner bag, but I've had no problems.

I find these bags to be very good in getting the tiny dust particles. Yes, I do find the bags in general to be on the pricy side especially since I have had several rip. At any rate, I have not had a problem with putting the bags on or taking them off. I vaccuumed up something accidentally and needed to remove the bag to get it out. As I attempted to carefully remove the bag (one I had just changed), it ripped right off of the cardboard ring and I had to replace the entire bag. As for the big "Poof" when changing bags, I try to be careful and haven't really had a problem.
