This one has a number of great features I was looking for:
Easy to carry; It has handholds at the top and the bottom of the handle that make it easy to carry from room to room, as well as helping to vacuum stairs
Easy to use tools: The tools are stored at the top, and the access door flips down and away from you, allowing easy access. The hose is short, but allows me to easily snap on an attachment for cleaning off the furniture, and carpet edges. A longer hose is available as an option. I have not tried it.
Good suction thru the hose and at the powerhead.
Effective cleaning; the dirt finder light does seem to work. It stays red until is senses no particles are being pulled up.
Light weight; at least 5 lbs lighter than the self propelled version. Much easier to carry up and down the steps.
Simpler construction should last much longer than the self-propelled mechanism, too.
Easy assembly; took a whole 5 minutes.
Noise; not the quietest, but not as loud as my old Hoover
Bagged; I tried a bagless unit once... what a mess every time you have to dump the dust can. This one comes with a hepa material replaceable bag. Fill it up, dump the whole thing. No muss, no fuss...
All said, a great unit for a great price.
# As with most uprights, to use the tools, the hose must be disconnected from the a rigid plastic tube that comes from the beater bar and through which dirt and dog hair are carried to the bag when it's being used as an upright.
# On this model, the beater bar never stops rotating (unlike other Hoovers I've had), so dirt, pet hair, and anything else that might be on the floor or carpet is continuously sucked through this tube regardless of whether it's in upright vacuum or tool mode or the machine is locked in the upright position.
# This model was originally made with a cap for the top of the tube when the hose has been disconnected, and it's illustrated in the manual. It's now been "redesigned" (in the words of the several Hoover CS people I eventually spoke to). Even though it's also obvious on the product that it once had a cap, the cap is no longer being shipped and isn't available.
# If the hose has been disconnected from the tube to use the tools, the action of the beater bar continues to suck up dirt, etc., through the open tube, propelling and distributing it in a great cloud throughout the room (that's probably just been dusted!).
# I called Hoover Customer Service four times. They told me to set the adjustment for the beater bar on high (further away from the floor or carpet) and that that would stop the machine from sucking up and redistributing dirt through the open tube and into the room. This doesn't solve the problem, and I don't even have deep pile carpet.
# It does have great suction--but in this instance, I'm not sure if this is the good news or the bad!Read more ›
But I can say that after 6 months of almost weekly use I'm very pleased with the performance of
my 'Hoover Windtunnel bagged Upright'.
I like the following:
* Great suction
* Effective - the carpet looks clean and almost new again after use. (Isn't
that the more important measure of a cleaner)?
* Light but not overly so (good, heavy components)
* Easy to carry up stairs, not too hard to use on the stairs
-- With one hand grab the 'handle' on the upper front section and let it ride across 3/4 of the stair
.... to the edge (skip the opposite edge). Lift down/up to the next stair. repeat.
-- Once you reach the last step, face the cleaner the other way and redo each step.
-- I will probably buy a stair-specific vacuum that isn't as heavy since we have quite a few stairs
.... and they get dirty faster than other carpet.
* Although it's mostly plastic and the on/off slider button appears destined
to break over time, the cleaner overall looks and feels solidly built.
* Near the quality of a Dyson but half the cost.
I don't like the following:
* Some small difficulty in adjusting the beater bar height. I can't just flick it with my toe to adjust.
* Almost every time I vacuum, I bump a tool off the back.
* The small cover for tools marked 'easily removable' in the manual is anything but..
* I cannot find cloth bags like the one that came with the cleaner. Wish I could. It works great!Read more ›

The good: Suction is good. Capacity is adequate. Cord length is good. We used it for three years before we gave it away, still in working order. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Setherson
Have had this vacuum for 9 years now and still works great. Have had to change the belt a few times but any vacuuming is going to need some maintenance to keep it work well.Published 6 months ago by Daniel Cummings

Worked great when I 1st bought it several years ago. After about a year the belt kept breaking. I ended up giving it to my daughter & she uses it just fine still.Published 11 months ago by CC40
I can say that overall I didn't hate this vacuum, but it did die out after 4 years. It is ok for carpet and above average for wood floors. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Howard Citron
