What a wonderful quilt book for all that love quilting!,

I have an extensive collection of quilt books and I was so excited when I got this one in the mail. I stopped what I was doing and sat down to "read" it. It has lots of great tips in it and the illustrations are remarkable. Edyta's step by step photo's will make it easy for both the new and old quilters. The wall hangings and table runners will be my first try and then onto the quilt. The color samples and her rule of five theory was great. I have seen her as an instructor and enjoyed her presentation, this book is just another great extension of her gift of quilting. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful Applique, Disappointing Quilting,
This review is from: Hop To It (Paperback)
This is a beautiful book of applique designs that are a refreshing change from both traditional designs and the totally non-traditional designs like Piece o' Cake.
This book is just different and the designs have more of a fluid, natural flow to them than most applique blocks. So if applique is your focus and you're wanting something a bit different, this is a terrific book for you. But the one thing I must comment on is the quilting. The quilting used over the showcase pieces was disappointing at best and distracting at worst. The advice to "quilt as desired" is great for some quilters, but not for everyone.

This is a great book for medium experienced applique ability if you use needle-turn applique. She has instructions for fusible applique too, so early/new appliquers will love it. I have met Edyta, and she is a very special person with a lot of talent.

Neat designs. The layouts need to be enlarged 150%. It is difficult
to determine finished size of some of the blocks -it is not clearly stated. But the patterns are beautiful. There are some projects that combine applique and piecing.

Great patterns,
This review is from: Hop To It (Paperback)
Edyta gave a presentation at our local quilt guild in 2010. She is an entertaining speaker as well as a great quilter. I was really inspired by her finished quilts that she shared with us. She has a great sense of color and uses beautiful fabrics. (Among her many talents, she is also a fabric designer.)
The block designs in this book are beautiful. I really like the section on fabric selection. I found this very helpful. Nothing can ruin a quilt quicker than choosing the wrong fabrics for it.

Applique items,

Like applique? HOP TO IT! provides you with 12 blocks and eight projects all for applique.
Ms. Sitar begins her book with a chapter on explaining how to plan the colors for your project. There are seven pages that show her fabric picks for her "rule of five" in various colorways. There are tips scattered throughout the book and set off in colored boxes. She then goes on to explain three different ways to put applique items on your blocks. She doesn't talk about the one way I like to do applique and that is by sewing a lightweight fabric or stabilizer to the applique, cutting a small slit in the stabilizer and turning the applique right side out. I like this the best as corners are not a problem and there are never any raw edges. The projects each have a color photo of the item and plenty of graphics for those of us who are more visually attuned. The materials list is set off in a colored box with a bright border and contains the finished block and project size. The cutting list and rest of the assembly instructions are clearly written. The projects include a quilt, a wall hanging, a table runner, a table topper, a pillow, a throw and pincushions. One of the final pages gives instructions on creating a label for the finished item. The last chapter contains a bio of the author. She has included family photos of her grandparents, mom and grandmother-in-law.

If you like appliqued bunnies - you'll love Hop To It. Great to teach as a Block of the Month, good alternatives for the blocks if you prefer smaller projects. Enjoy!

I needed this book for a very expensive wool quilt project. I was allowed to purchase the kit without the book, so I looked on Amazon and saved half of what it would cost to have this book included in the kit. Now I can buy more wool....
