This is a wonderful book! It is more than just fun. It gives little kids a first experience of thinking about weight and measurement and about what can go wrong when you are trying to solve a problem.

Highly recommended!

We were fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of this book a while back and my youngest sons loved it so much, and we read it so often, that the pages are literally worn from use. Our babysitter even tried contacting the author to ask when the book might be available in stores. Now we have this beautiful, hardcover version. In my family, we are celebrating the arrival of Hop!Plop! and based on our experience, we bought several copies.

What a fresh and warm approach to teaching kids about challenges, creative solutions and friendships. I have given this book to 3 of my nieces and friend's kids and they have all told me their kids love it. I look forward to their next book!

My daughter is only 2, but she's addicted to books and can't get enough. My wife and I choose them carefully to keep her engaged. When we read her Hop! Plop! for the first time, she stared at it wide-eyed until it was done, then shouted, "Again!" Pretty high praise. Now, it's minimum 3 times a day - she asks for it by name as a special treat - which it is.

This book is a must have for all homes with kids 2+! Kids love the story, and it is even fun fr the parents. I will buy this as gifts from now on to all of my friends with kids!

This is an adorable book that kids can really relate to! All kids love the playground, but know the frustration of when things don't work out quite the way they expect. They can think through the hurdles that Mouse and Elephant face and enjoy coming up with solutions for their playground problems. The ending is wonderful -- as Mouse and Elephant realize that they are each other's "favorite". This book will be a favorite in our household for years to come!

"Hop! Plop!" begins with two bored friends on a sunshiny day. They decide to head down to the playground for a little fun.

And that's when the trouble begins. You see, our two friends are physically incompatible--one is an elephant, the other a mouse. The seesaw is complete failure, with poor mouse set flying with a "hop," a "plop," a "boom," and a "bop." Mouse tries to eat an entire watermelon to even up their weight, but all that water content doesn't help. Needless to say, "the swings were a total flop" as well. As is the whirlybird.

Finally, the elephant discovers some playground equipment that will work for the two friends. He creates a slide from his own trunk. The two are delighted and celebrate with rounds of "you're my favorite."

Written in compact prose by Corey Rosen Schwartz and Tali Klein, "Hop! Plop!" is, on the surface of things, a simple tale. But it offers so much more. "Hop! Plop!" is the perfect choice for a preschool or kindergarten unit on weights and measures. It's also a classic sibling or friend "finding a compromise" story. With a little ingenuity, two friends or siblings can work anything out, despite their differences. "Hop! Pop!" is also an excellent early reader title. Schwartz and Klein have kept the difficult words to a minimum and there are plenty of excellent onomatopoeic words just perfect for sounding out.

Olivier Dunrea's cheerful, warm illustrations really drew me in. They suggest a languid summer's day when kids (or mice and elephants) have the freedom to find something to do.

"Hop! Plop!" is highly recommended for children ages three to eight.

This book is so wonderful. It was reccomened to me by a customer of mine. The wording is great and big enough for kids. The illustrations are out of this world. My son loves it. I have decided that I will be giving this book to all the kids in my extended family this holiday.

What a fun book! Kids will learn about problem solving and working together (without even knowing it). The onomatopoeias (if that's how you spell and pluralize it) and the pictures make the book amusing and enjoyable. After reading it, my 4 years old and 2 year old (and I) were sliding down our own elephant trunks.
I highly recommend it.

This book takes us on an adventure with polar opposites, Mouse and Elephant. Finding themselves bored, this duo of friends set out to explore the playground! The rhyming text as Mouse and Elephant explore the playground makes for a great introduction to word families and the concept of rhyming. Together, the two explore the seesaw. Elephant hops on and as a result of his weight, Mouse bops to the ground! Mouse tries to gain weight by eating a watermelon, but as a result of all the slurping, he begins burping! When the duo decides that the seesaw is faulty, they move on to the swing and another adventure begins!

I would use this book not only for a read-aloud, but also as an introduction at the Kindergarten or 1st grade level, depending on the students, to several different word families: -op, -urp, -unch, -ip, -ing, -ush, and -ide. The book also introduces the concept of weight difference between Mouse and Elephant and the consequences of the varying weights at the playground. For example, Mouse is stuck at the top of the seesaw, Elephant breaks the swing! Cause-and-effect could also be explored using this book!
