When I was 20 years old I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumetoid Arthritis. A rare form of arthritis (1 in 60,000) that begins in childhood. In a matter of 2 months I saw 5 different doctors, and went from a perfectly healthy college student to someone who could hardly stand up long enough to brush my teeth. I tried everything medication wise and found no true results. Then my mom found this book. I read it and bought the cookbook too. I found that changing my diet worked. Dr. Dong explains how our diets and lifestyles affect us and how to adjust them for better health. It's especially good because Dr. Dong has experienced exactly what he writes about and you can tell.

In the mid 1970's I was diagnosed with an uncommon, progressive form of rheumatoid arthritis and told I would be in a wheelchair within 20 years. Medication only reduced the pain, it didn't remove it. It was a miserable existence. Then, six years after my diagnosis, I found this book. I followed Dr. Dong's diet to the letter. At the end of the third week I stopped my medication and was pain-free. After a couple of years on the diet I began adding foods back and discovered there were some things on his "never eat" list that didn't bother me, and others that I could eat occasionally with no problem. I remained pain-free for 30 years until gradually some of his "don'ts" crept back into my diet. I recently removed them--chocolate chief among them, sigh--and am again feeling good. I have been told that I must have been misdiagnosed all those years ago, but the same diagnosis was made by two top rheumatologists in two different cities, so I trust them. It's just that Dr.Dong's diet healed me. Let me add that his diet sound difficult, but when you feel so much better, you don't miss your old favorites.

My mother and her sister used to go to Dr. Dong back in the 1950's and 1960's. He worked miracles.

It didn't make sense to me because products with flour were recommended while produce like tomatoes were not. However, since I was in pain because of osteoarthritis, I tried it. I did not get results.
