3.0 out of 5 stars where's the song from the trailer?
I saw this movie about 3 or 4 years ago, i can't remember when exactly, but even before I saw it, I already bought the soundtrack. The reason why I bought it was because I saw the trailer for the movie and there was this great song playing in the background when Harry Connick was dancing with Sandra Bullock in a fair or something. Well, imagine my disappointment when I...

"When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love...." (Garth Brooks)

Those words are just a taste of the beautiful lyrics to be found on this album. The CD is filled with poignant moments, you'll want to listen to again and again.

"Hope Floats" directed by Forest Whitaker, is a beautiful film. The story revolves around Birdie, a woman who has been terribly hurt by her husband and best friend. She loses all self-esteem, and builds a wall around herself that is so strong, it seems like nobody will ever break through again. Whitaker has added the perfect soundtrack to this story. The music and words are beautiful and meaningful. They are a strong statement, speaking of all the emotions Birdie is going through, and how those close to her bring her the strength she needs to recover, count her blessings, and open her heart once again.

Every track evokes some sort of emotion, from a smile to a tear. It's a great mix of different styles. Lyle Lovett's rendition of "Smile" may even bring goose bumps or a lump to your throat. "Chances Are" is a wonderfully touching duet from Bob Seger and Martina McBride. Also included are The Rolling Stones' "Honest I Do", Garth Brooks', "To Make You Feel My Love", also a lovely version by Trisha Yearwood of that one, Sheryl Crow's "In Need", a fabulous rendition of "Stop In The Name Of Love" by Jonelle Mosser, and Bryan Adams' beautiful tones are oh so recognizable in "When You Love Someone". (For a complete list of songs and artists, please see the buying info.)

I am an avid film viewer, and every once in a while the music from the film touches me as much as the film itself. This is one of those soundtracks that I just couldn't get enough of. It's perfect for that lunch break, maybe on a day when things aren't going so great. The music is calming, and the words will give you just that lift you need to get you through the rest of the day. If you have seen the film you will relive all the wonderful moments. Even if you haven't, the music speaks for itself.

The CD sounds great on the stereo. And by the way, it comes with a booklet with all the words to each song and includes some photos from the film as well. It's a CD that seems to be hard to come by right now. Be patient, watch the outside sellers for a good deal(you may want to check with them to be sure the booklet is included). I am including the ASIN because there seems to be some confusion between the soundtrack with various artists(this one), and the movie score itself. ASIN: B000006359

"If you smile through your fears and sorrows,
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through...."(Lyle Lovett)

Enjoy....Laurie

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album., April 5, 2005
This review is from: Hope Floats: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Just wanted to let anyone reading these reviews that the review by MusicFan posted September 2, 2003 about how misleading these reviews are, is completely wrong!! Musicfan is talking about a totally different CD. He/She wanted the album with "various artists" but bought the wrong one containing the "original movie soundtrack". This is a great album and worth every cent. Any of the reviews that refer to this album with 11 tracks is in the wrong place. The "various artists" album has 13 tracks. Just trying to clear up some confusion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack!, June 30, 2004
This review is from: Hope Floats: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I don't buy too many soundtracks, but this is definately one of my favorites. The music really compliments the movie, which I also really enjoyed. One complaint, the song that Jack Ingram and the Beat-up Ford Band sing in the movie, when Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr's characters are dancing, is not on the soundtrack. It was a great song! There's some really good stuff here though. Bryan Adams "When You Love Someone" is touching and beautiful. Deana Carter hands in an understated performance on the poignantly beautiful "What Makes You Stay". Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood each do good versions of Bob Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love" (Garth's was a pretty big hit). The Sheryl Crow song "In Need" is another highlight. Bob Seger and Martina McBride duet on the moving song "Chances Are". Whiskeytown have a great song on here called "Wither, I'm A Flower". Other highlights include Gillian Welch's "Paper Wings", Jonnell Mosser's version of "Stop In The Name of Love", "Honest I Do" by the Rolling Stones and "To Get Me To You" by Lila McCann. A soundtrack full of moving music, great listen!

I have to say this is one of the best sound tracks I have heard in a long time. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the emotions while listening to the music. Lila McCann did such a great job with the song To Get Me To You, and Garth Brooks ,while he never has been one of my favorites, I feel his song on this cd,To Make you feel my Love, was great. Chances Are, and Smile, are new found favorites of mine. Rarely there comes along a cd that will really move you but this one definitely does. I love this cd and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the most touching soundtracks, December 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hope Floats: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I am not a big fan of soundtracks. This cd though, is very touching. many of the songs are good but, buy this cd for Garth Brook's song "To Make You Feel My Love" It is one of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear. The song is about a person who will do anything to make that special someone feel the love that they have for them. It's a sad song, but the lyrics are simple yet powerful. You cannot go wrong with this single.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical cheesey soundtrack..., December 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hope Floats: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Hope Floats floats high above what we have come to know as soundtrack music. Often, it can seem like someone sat around with his private record collection digging for selections to use for a movie, and the soundtrack purchaser winds up with nothing more than a smattering of tunes. With Hope Floats, every song has meaning and purpose and is delivered eloquently. One might even pretend that these songs were brought together and then the idea of the movie followed. The only difficult thing about this disk is trying to decide whether Garth Brooks or Trisha Yearwood does the better job with "To Make You Feel My Love" -- obviously an impossible choice. If you are not into country or love songs, this one may change your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best investment in music!, October 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hope Floats: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This movie made me think and this music touched my heart. There is something on this cd for everyone. Of course most people have heard "To Make You Feel My Love," but my personal favorites are those songs by Sheryl Crow, Bob Seger & Martina McBride, The Mavericks, Deana Carter, and Lila McCann. Although the cd is mostly country, there are also tracks by the Rolling Stones and Bryan Adams. This is the cd that you can play over and over again without ever having to skip songs. It sympathizes with you, heals you, and lifts you up. A definate must-have for anyone who has ever been in a relationship!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack for Great Movie, May 7, 2002
This review is from: Hope Floats: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The soundtrack for HOPE FLOATS is the perfect companion to the movie by the same name. The soundtrack features a slew of artists with some stellar performances. Both Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood turn in commanding performances of "To Make You Feel My Love", a Bob Dylan cover, in my humble opinion Trisha Yearwood's is far and away better than Garth Brooks, with her suttle voice very poignant and direct. Sheryl Crow's "In Need" is a soft, touching song. Bryan Adams gives us a tender ballad which is very soothing and beautiful in "When You Love Someone". Martina McBride and Bob Segar excel on the ballad "Chances Are". One of those most beautiful tracks is Deana Carter's poignant "What Makes You Stay", which is endearing and reflective. Other artists on the soundtrack include Lyle Lovett, Lila McCann, Rolling Stones, Gillian Welch, The Mavericks and more. Overall its a great soundtrack to listen to, captures the mood of the movie perfectly.
