More About the Author

Dana Doyle was born in the suburbs of New Orleans, Louisiana. She has been an elementary and middle school teacher for the past twenty-one years. Her greatest joys are found in caring for her family of five, in teaching, writing, gardening and in taking photographs of nature. "God Messaging...Will You Accept the Friend Request?" is her first book. She has followed that up with "A Cardinal Chorus," a religion teacher's resource manual for teaching the basics of the Catholic Faith through song and mnemonic devices. Her latest effort is called, "Hope for Healing" (from the effects of childhood sexual abuse). It is a "survivor to survivor" guide to healing written from a Christian perspective.

Her favorite quote is, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." (William Butler Yeats)

Sexual abuse is one of our world's greatest tragedies and sins. The loss of innocence and trust, not to mention emotional and physical pain, often take a lifetime of healing.

Although the author recounts her own story of abuse, she does not focus on the negative and instead focuses on the "hope for healing" of abuse victims. This book offers practical ways to help the abuse survivor heal. Faith plays an integral part of that journey. The author says, "I made great strides through therapy, but it wasn't until I let God be in charge of my healing and asked for the grace of forgiveness that I really recovered my sense of joy."

Doyle also tells the reader what to look for in a child so "that they may be protected and an intervention applied early when a case of incest is suspected."

Most chapters begin with a relevant Scripture passage. Some of the more compelling chapters include: "My Own Story," "Grooming," "Recognizing the Signs," "Don't Be Afraid to Call for BackUp," "Comfort and Purging," and "Forgiveness."

Abuse survivors need to know that they are not alone in their struggles. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has experienced sexual abuse or who knows an abuse survivor.

Sexual abuse is such a difficult topic to read about. However, Mrs. Doyle does an excellent job of offering hope. It is written in a very easy "down to earth" tone and not in a professional, intimidating "over my head" tone. The advice she gives is advice you would receive from a good friend. The book does not focus on the actual abuse, but instead on Mrs. Doyle's day to day coping and surviving. She offers wonderful insight on how to heal not just from sexual abuse, but from any other losses as well. I am inspired that Mrs. Doyle not only forgives her attacker but prays for him.

I admire Dana for writing her book Hope for Healing and letting survivors know there is hope after being sexually abused. Dana helps survivors realize that the abuse was not their fault and there are different stages to be healed. One should allow themselves to go each stage. Know you are not alone and never loose hope because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Dana suggests a survivor find something therapeutic to help get thru the difficult times. Although I am not a survivor of sexual abuse, I have suffered from emotional and mental abuse thru my teen and adult years. Reading Help for Healing helped me understand that forgiveness will set me free, and that I did not have to forgive the person for the harm they've caused me. Dana also gave the reader several signs to recognize if someone is being sexually abused. As a mother of a 17 year old daughter, this information was extremely helpful to me and thank Dana for including this information in her book.

Dana is an amazing Christian lady, wife, mother, teacher and friend. Her story is very upsetting, but she is so blessed that she had the support system to help her and get her the help she needed to recover from her abuse. Dana always keeps her eyes focused on God, the God that has helped her find hope, healing and joy in her life.
