Editorial Reviews

Highly acclaimed 2007 debut album from the American singer/songwriter. Foy Vance operates in his own parallel universe. His music is an evolving journey, a constant search for artistic expression captured in the moment, operating well away from industry standards. Foy is a truly unique talent belonging to a caliber of artists that stand the test of time. Usual tags such as 'singer-songwriter', 'Folk-Soul', 'troubadour' are perceived with a considerable amount of cynicism these days, especially since the music scene has been saturated with middle of the road artists, marketed as such by traditional record label formulae. Someone with a discerning ear and trust in their own taste should be able to spot who's the real deal and who's not. . Musically, Hope flows like a live session and it brings out Foy's Soul, Blues, Gospel and Jazz influences soaked up while growing up in Oklahoma but also from spending time in Alabama and New Orleans. Lyrically, Foy has an amazing talent for telling great stories in a song, as is so poignantly demonstrated in 'Indiscriminate Act of Kindness' and 'Gabriel and the Vagabond'. 15 tracks. Wordamouth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, November 7, 2007
This review is from: Hope (Audio CD)
Foy Vance is absolutley brilliant. I first came to hear his music on Grey's Anatomy. He has songs on Vol. 1 and Vol 2 of GA Soundtrack.
Foy is soulful, deep, rich and his lyrics are profound. He has a unique style all his own and gives great perspective on each and every note and word.
Gotta totally have this one. If you don't you are really missing out.
I can't wait for a concert tour in US or either I buy tickets to the UK and hear him in homeland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foy does it all, September 19, 2008
This review is from: Hope (Audio CD)
Irishman Foy Vance lived in Oklahoma for a few years while growing up. His music pulls together some unmistakable European zaniness with Gospel/blues/soul as well. His voice is undeniably brilliant. Hope, like Foy's previous work, captures a live/raw edge in the studio that amplifies his soulful approach...absolutely phenomenal. Don't stop with Hope, you need to get Watermelon Oranges and The Birth of the Toilet Tour as well. However, these EPs were never released in America, so you have to buy them from somewhere that allows you to pay with PayPal (like 7digital.com). Otherwise, you will need a British billing address.

5.0 out of 5 stars I HOPE you buy this, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Hope (MP3 Download)
I'll be brief. I went from never hearing of Foy Vance to LOVING all of his music. The guy is just pure talent. You should definitely buy this album and look him up on youtube and watch some of his live stuff, its incredible. He mixes rock with folk and a touch of soul perfectly and his lyrics are deep yet catchy. I can't wait to get a chance to see him live myself.
