Great book!,

This review is from: A Hope for Hannah (Hannah's Heart) (Paperback)
Jake and Hannah have been living in the wild Montana mountains in a newly-formed Amish community. Times are tough. Between fighting off bears and facing a lack of food and jobs, Hannah feels the need to move back to Indiana. Then, Hannah becomes pregnant. That makes the need for Indiana and stability more pressing.
To their surprise, Jake is chosen to be a bishop in the small community. Jake is shy and backwards, but to everyone's delight, he is quite a preacher/bishop. Funny thing is that the community has a fear of Jake going to a "liberal" church because of his charismatic preaching ability. Liberal means Mennonite in this situation. Hannah feels inept at being a preacher's wife. Can't they just go back to Indiana to live a normal, quiet, stress-free life? Contrary to many reviews, this book clearly is not just a regurgitated version of the books by Eicher. The basis to this book is that both Hannah and Jake have to lean on God through times of not-enough. Also, they have to accept their positions in the church body. None of that was in the other books. There is a lot to relate to in A Hope For Hannah. If God has every led you down a path that was not of your choosing, you will understand the emotional struggles of Hannah and Jake. The parents in this book were steadfast in their support. They also believed in subtle tough love. This is a great book that I did not want to end. Add this to your reading list!

A Hope for Hannah By Jerry S. Eicher Harvest House Publishers Reviewed by Diane A. Brown Sometimes, when dreams come true, they fall short of expiations. This second book is an improvement over the first in the series (A Dream for Hannah). The struggles of newly married and expectant parents Hannah and Jake Byler seem to multiply at every turn. With a cold Montana winter closing in, Hannah faces both physical and mental challenges that become over whelming. There is some deeper character development and the story line is more consistent. The descriptions were clear and believable. The dialogue seemed a bit wordy in places but in the long run, the necessary points were brought out. I felt the story had good teaching potential for the growing, impetuous young heart. The need for honesty, communication and trust between couples was emphasized as a vital ingredient for a successful marriage. When Hannah's world is crashing down around her the future looks bleak. Will things get worse before they get better? A good read for the growing young heart

Enough already!,
This review is from: A Hope for Hannah (Hannah's Heart) (Paperback)
I really wish this author would stop trying to write books about a topic he obviously knows nothing about - the Amish! I also wish he would stop putting out previously published books under the guise of being new ones. Just the need to do that points to his obvious lack of knowledge when it comes to writing Amish fiction. Perhaps he should venture into the land of "generic" fiction based on "generic" people and topics. It's frustrating to waste money on his books always hoping that they will improve. I see that he now has another series beginning - one I will definitely NOT be purchasing!!

A Hope for Hannah,
This review is from: A Hope for Hannah (Hannah's Heart) (Paperback)
A Hope for Hannah by Jerry S. Eicher is the second novel in the Hannah's Heart series. Hannah is now married to Jake Byler and they are living in the mountains of Montana. Despite their anxiousness with the roaming bear, the loss of a job and the yearning Hannah has to return to where her parents live in Indiana, Jake and Hannah draw close together and mature as a young adult Amish couple. An unthinkable position is given to Jake and Hannah is thrust into role that is very uncomfortable for her. Despite the ups and downs of the Montana wilderness and their life struggles, Jake and Hannah continue their steadfast faith in God and each other.
This book did not hold the suspense factor for me and even reading to the end, there was no real climax to make a reader want to finish the book. However, I did like the story line and I learned a lot about Amish customs that were new to me. I could tell that Hannah had matured as a married woman and I really liked her commitment to her husband amidst all the difficulties. |
