Editorial Reviews

Former Fifth Dimension members Marilyn McCo and Billy Davis, Jr. hit gold the first time out. Produced by Don Davis (Johnnie Taylor, The Dramatics), the charming million-selling single "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)" went to number one on Billboard's R&B and pop charts in 1976. Other highlights from their debut LP include the upbeat followup single, "Your Love," and the languid title track. The couple performed some of the songs on their CBS summer variety series. In 1999, they appeared on the cover of Jet Magazine and on a segment of Jamie Foxx's WB sitcom. I Hope We Get to Love in Time was reissued as a 1996 Razor & Tie CD. Eleven years later, Collectors Choice reissued the album once again. ~ Ed Hogan, All Music Guide

...from a vastly underrated duo. This couple can sing their...you know what I mean. They never really got thier due because perhaps they were overshadowed by their years in the Fifth Dimension, the group evvybody thought had too many pop hits to really be anything but a blip on the history of music. That just ain't so. The Fifth and McCoo and Davis were talented vocalists who made it big. Really, really, really big. So big that I remember McCoo & Davis had a summer variety TV show--and their sound is so great that the word chemistry doesn't do it justice. Maybe it was kismet, I dunno. But listen to the title track, "I Hope..." and the Tony Hester cut "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me" and decide for yourself. I love these two!

I've been searching for this CD for months! I finally found a new copy. (Check out Marilyn & Billy's official web site.)

This is a very good CD, and I can't wait to listen to it again. It's definitely worth the time I spent searching. These songs are different, and I think better, than most songs I've heard by 5th Dimension. The singing is still great.

I must just tell you both of these people marilyn and Billy are a class Act.many years ago I met marilyn while she was hosting Solid Gold and Billy was also there, both of these people posed with pictures with me and just could not have been nicer, then a few years later i would meet them again when the original Fifth Dimension got together in Atlantic City and i would be lucky enough to get a picture with all of them before Ron townsend pass away.Marilyn is one of those few artists like Dionne warwick and connie francis who can make any song her own...Buy this Cd

Truth is, I didn't buy this CD; I could hire Marilyn and Billy to perform it for me these days for what it costs. I DO have the original LP in great condition though. I play it perhaps twice a year. I've always wondered why the title song, a bit more sentimental than the follow-up, "You Don't Have to Be a Star" wasn't a bigger hit. Apparently it did leave the public hungry for more since "You Don't Have to Be a Star" gets regular play on oldies stations. At a reasonable price, those two songs would make this a good buy and the rest would be gravy. If money means nothing to you, by all means, lay your money down and enjoy. The album is most pleasant.

Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. are the ultimate when it comes to musical couples...and they have been that for 45 years! They are original members of The 5th Dimension...the group Billy founded in the mid 60's! This CD represents their 1976 debut album recorded after the group split up and it's a hum-dinger...a true festival of music including many gorgeous ballads and their #1 hit "You Don't Have To Be A Star." The title track is a slow dance miracle that will put you right up into the romantic stratosphere with its words and melody. That's the theme of this CD...pure love and devotion and it's something these two classy performers know something about. Their combined talents are superb...enviable and each is a great singer and stylist in their own right. They alternate leads and come together again as a duet seamlessly throughout It's simply a fabulous CD!

Very nice.I do have this on LP and in great shape play it every once in a while.I really do love the album such great songs on there, but my favorites are I Hope We Get To Love In Time and the classic You Don't Have To Be Star. This record came out in 1976 and every time I hear this song I have to stop and listen. They were a fine couple and one of the finest duo's out there.Billy always had that Tenor,I remember him singing with the 5th Dimension(Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In) he just killed it.
