Book Description

“Right now, I have nothing to give. Nothing. Nada. I’m tired and don’t feel good and honestly, I want a break from everything. It’s not that I want to leave my family, trade them in, or get new ones. I WANT to be with them. I just want a break from hard hearts, discipline, correction. I want their hearts changed and I can’t do it myself. Sometimes, the knowledge of this makes me feel hopeless and helpless.”

~A Weary Mom

Does that sound like you? If so, join Stacey Thacker (of the MOD Squad), and Brooke McGlothlin (of the MOB Society) where God kneels down and meets us with hope in our mess.

*****

Feeling weary? Wonder if you’re the only one who’s written “a nap” at the top of her Christmas list? You’ll appreciate Hope for the Weary Mom: Where God Gets in Your Mess. As a mom of four kids, including a toddler, I found a breath of fresh air within the pages.

~Tricia Goyer, wife, mom and author of 30 books, including Blue Like Play Dough: The Shape of Motherhood in the Grip of God

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read for every mom! October 20, 2012
By LaToya
Format:Kindle Edition
As a single, homeschooling mom of two boys ( one with SPD, ADHD, and ODD) weary was how I felt daily. That voice in my head telling me how much I failed as a mom was so loud it was almost deafening. Then I read "Hope for the Weary Mom". I laughed, I cried and I finally knew I was not alone. That nagging voice listing my failures is harder to hear. This book has given me hope, a sense of empowerment and a community of women to walk with on this journey called motherhood.

Brooke and Stacey have done a fantastic job expanding this book and really getting to the heart of motherhood struggles. I think that every mother needs a copy of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Because we ALL need hope! October 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I am thrilled to recommend Hope for the Weary Mom: Where God Meets You in Your Mess by Stacey Thacker and Brooke McGlothlin.
Does that sound like you? Are you worn out, tired, feeling overwhelmed, stressed and guilty that you're not doing it all, perfectly, every day? Can you readily admit your life is not only messy but a mess?

Here's my favorite, raw, honest excerpt that every single overwhelmed mom can relate too:

"Honey, I need you to come home now. The two-year-old is screaming because he wants to sit on my lap while I'm nursing the baby. The baby is screaming because the two-year-old keeps trying to sit on his head. When the two-year-old tries to sit on the baby's head he can't nurse. Now he won't nurse at all and is screaming his head off. The bulldog has started crying because he wants to be fed (doesn't everybody!!) and I'm going to explode within the next ten minutes if you don't COME HOME AND BRING ME BEER AND CIGARETTES RIGHT NOW!

He brought me a Coke and dark chocolate."

Don't you just love it! I know exactly how she felt and I bet you do too. I'm right there with you mama. My daughter is grown and married with children of her own but reading these funny raw words reminded me of so many moments in my own child-rearing journey. The moments when I felt like I had nothing left to give, clean out of patience and a skewed perspective on this parenting thing.

Sometimes guilt threatened to drown me as I wallowed in self-pity. I even remember yelling at God and telling Him He wasn't a very good parent to me because He wasn't giving me what I deeply believed I was so desperate for. Can you even imagine? But I was desperate for answers.

Oh, to have had this precious resource when my daughter was young. There's something so encouraging when you realize you're not the only one dealing with overwhelm, depression and guilt. To know there are women out there in the same place with the same needs. And most of all, the same God.

There is meat in here mama. Good stuff that will nourish you and give you joy in your mothering journey.

Hope for the Weary Mom is beautiful. Honest. Real. That's what I love most about these two authors, two moms who aren't afraid to show your their faults and failings, their scars and skeletons. They get real with their lives but offer a dose of hope that's powerful and convincing. And you will be blessed no matter where you are in your mothering journey. Each chapter ends with some very thoughtful study questions. And each chapter is full of practical wisdom that only comes from living life in the trenches. There are wonderful resources included in the book and scriptures to read and ponder and refresh your weary heart. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Heart is Filled With Hope October 22, 2012
By Megan
Format:Kindle Edition
As a homeschooling mom of four young boys, I know WEARY! It's closely related to OVERWHELM. The two work together closely to try and cause my heart to spiral downward in DEFEAT. Hope for the Weary Mom is exactly what I have been searching for. Each story is written with such raw emotion and honesty about the struggles, difficulties and even tragedies that can cause a mom to be weary and feel defeated. But within each story, there is a HOPE that is described...a HOPE that only our God can give. Brooke McGlothlin and Stacey Thacker have poured their hearts out here in a way that I am so thankful for. Their stories help me know I am not alone, that weariness is a part of motherhood, but it does not have to define us or consume us. God can meet us in our messes, no matter what they look like. This book has helped me to redefine what is important in my life. It's helped me to realize just how much our God wants us to rely on Him, even press into Him, moment by moment each and every day. The hope I am filled with, when I do, far outweighs any circumstance I may be in when I do.
