Product Description

Can Alexander Hope, the accidental President, restore basic values and freedom to the nation? His opponents will stop at nothing to force their own agenda on the nation including killing the President of the United States. An electrifying what-if political thriller by Aaron Zelman (founding member of Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership) and four time Prometheus Award winner, L. Neil Smith, author of Pallas and Tom Paine Maru.
*****
“Aaron Zelman and L. Neil Smith have written a compelling visionary novel about how life in America would be radically improved if we had a President who actually believed in the Bill of Rights.”—James Bovard, Columnist and Author
*****
“A spell-binding novel of politics and passion that will appeal to women as well as men.”—Dr. Joanne D. Eisen & Dr. Paul Gallant
*****
“No matter what your political leanings are, if you really believe in freedom you will find Hope an intriguing and fascinating read of what could be”—Jeff Ritchie, Independent Film Producer
*****
“If just one real politician’s principles approached those of Zelman and Smith’s protagonist, Alexander Hope, there would still be ‘Hope’ for our fast-fading republic. Perhaps their latest novel will inspire one. We can only ‘hope.’”—John C. Taylor, Columnist and Internet Editor

This review is from: Hope (Mass Market Paperback)
An entertaining vision of what would happen if a candidate from outside of the conventional two party political mainstream became president.

A billionaire entrepreneur with a libertarian style philosophical streak on govermnent runs as a third party candidate, and through a series of chance occurences is elected president.

It is a viewpoint broadening vision of what could be -- somewhat along the lines of L. Neil Smith's "Probability Broach."

Especially in these dark political & socioeconomic times, this appropriately-titled book shed a beam of light on what COULD be if things were to turn around. As always, L Neil Smith delivers an entertaining story that carries a strong message of rational self-determination and the celebration of embracing one's personal freedom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and inspiring, October 29, 2006

I finished this book in two days and was ready for more.

I've read most of the current (and not so current) libertarian literature and this is among the best.

I like this book better than "The Mitzvah", but "The Mitzvah" is certainly worth reading. It is much better than its reviews would indicate and it introduces you to some of the characters in "Hope".

I'm very ready for the next book from these authors.

Those who profit politically by setting the races at each others throats are wise to declare ethnic humor politically incorrect. As long we can manage to laugh at the differences among us, were unlikely to kill each other over them. Theres no such thing as a liberal, Dana intoned with a scowl, imitating Alex at his academic best. Like environmentalist, its an obsolete word used to cover the ideological backsides of socialists. "e;
