Book Description

From the NEW YORK TIMES Bestselling author of SLAMMED and POINT OF RETREAT.

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning. February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Holy hell.

You know how most books are so predictable that you are just waiting for the words to read like you pretty much figure they will?

Yeah?

Well this book is in no way predictable.

Completely surprising.
Absolutely stunning.
Terrifically heartbreaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Took my breath away December 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an all consuming book. From the first page to the last. In a way I wish ALL books were.

Such a realness to these characters that each paragraph controlled my breath. From the moments that had me laughing hard, to the ones that gripped the pit of my soul, and my favorites??? the ones that actually stopped my breathing while I experienced Holder and Sky's intoxicating relationship.

Never has an author had me literally panting when the couple hasn't even kissed yet. <deep breath>
"I'm pretty sure we just broke the record for the best first kiss in the history of first kisses- without even kissing." (38%)
Agreed. And since when has pinky holding brought tears to my eyes? Since Hopeless, that's when.

Without a doubt this book just fell into my top 10 list of favorite books ever. What an amazing gift Colleen Hoover has.

Her characters are real. At least you sure as heck wish they were. And lived in your house. And were your only friends. ;) I loved Sky from the 3rd sentence. Sarcasm and quick wit~ two things I can't get enough of. And Holder? Holder had me at "Hey." I dare you not to fall in love with him.
Perfectly imperfect characters. And I could.not.get.enough.

May I recommend blocking off your day when you buy Hopeless... as you will not want to put it down. Not even to pee. And make sure your kindle/iPad/electronic-device is fully charged or you will sit on the floor next to the plug to read because back pain will be completely worth it. Lack of sleep will be worth it. Ignoring your children will be worth it. ;) Ok, I need to stop. But only because I need to go re-read it. Now.

<to whomever designed the cover~ LOVED it!>

**Warning ~ If you are a Slammed fan that wants to read this, please know Hopeless is of a more mature nature than Slammed and it deals with a dark subject mater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopelessly In Love with HOPELESS December 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Colleen Hoover wrote about an extremely difficult subject but treated it with immense respect and delicacy that equaled a meaningful experience for the reader whether this thing has touched their life or not. I felt everything Sky felt and everything Holder felt. He was the most amazing character ever. The sex scenes were perfectly balanced and were also written with an eloquent amount of class and respect which provided the reader with a deeper respect for the characters intimate connection.

The two most poignant lessons for me from the book were these two quotes:

"Sometimes you have to choose between a bunch of wrong choices and no right ones. You just have to choose which wrong choice feels the least wrong."

"While I could sit here and feel sorry for myself, wondering why all of this happened to me...I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to wish for a perfect life. The things that knock you down in life are tests, forcing you to make a choice between giving in and remaining on the ground or wiping the dirt off and standing up even taller than you did before you were knocked down. I'm choosing to stand up taller. I'll probably get knocked down a few more times before this life is through with me, but I can guarantee you I'll never stay on the ground."

I never thought I could love a book as equally as I do Slammed but now I think I do. I "LIVE" HOPELESS!

BRAVO Colleen you did it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars I am full of Hope!! December 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
DISCLAMIER: Do NOT start this book at midnight like I did....you will never go to sleep. I woke up next to my iPad (that was dead) and super sad because I had to wait for it to charge before I could finish this beautiful story.

I am a huge fan of Colleen Hoover (I love Slammed and Point of No Retreat) but I really think she took it beyond with this book. I don't even know how to give this book a review or highlight my favorite parts because I feel I would be writing the entire book down.

Linden Sky Davis is a 17 year old girl who is being raised by her Wall-Flower Mom, Karen, and lives next door to her best friend, Six. Karen is a Vegan who can not stand technology so Sky has never had a cell phone, a TV, Computer/Internet...and she has always been home schooled. After begging her mother, Karen finally decides to let Sky go to public school for her senior year. Now, the only friend she has is Six and Six has developed a certain promiscuous reputation...

"Lust is the best of all deadly sins."

...and now Sky is also guilty by association. Sky has had her share of boys to make out with but still holds her V-Card. The reason she wants to make out with different boys is kind of sad...

"The real reason I enjoy making out with guys is simply because it makes me feel completely and comfortably numb."

She feels nothing, no excitement, no butterflies...empty. Then one day while grocery shopping she lays her eyes on Dean Holder (Yum!!). She feels...

"I'm pretty sure I'm having a hot flash. Or I have butterflies. Or maybe I'm coming down with a stomach virus."

He swears that he knows her but can't place her...either way he has to know her.

More About the Author

Colleen Hoover's love for writing began in 1985 when she was five years old. Her first story was titled "Mystery Bob" and was a huge hit with her mother, who was really good at faking interest.
Colleen continued to write short stories for friends and family until December of 2011, when she decided to write a long story she titled, "Slammed." She self-published SLAMMED to Amazon in January, 2012 and it hit the NYT's bestsellers list in May, 2012. She has since signed with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, and now has six NYT's bestsellers. Colleen prefers to be called a writer, as the term "author" still terrifies her and makes this feel like a job with expectations. She doesn't work well under pressure and hopes writing will always remain fun and exciting.
Colleen's newest novel, UGLY LOVE, releases August 5th, 2014. She is currently working on a new novel, CONFESS, which she is writing as fast as she can before she wakes up from this crazy dream.

You can follow Colleen on Instagram and Twitter @colleenhoover. You can also find her on her blog at www.colleenhoover.com where she holds a daily book-a-day giveaway, or on her very active Facebook page at www.facebook.com/authorcolleenhoover where she loves to give away more free stuff when her husband isn't looking.

Colleen also wants the world to know that writing short biographies in third person is incredibly awkward.

Is this a teen book?
I am an adult, and enjoyed this book very much. It is not at all like her first two books, Slammed and Point of Retreat. MUCH heavier issues aimed at adults, hence the "Mature audience" warning. There is sex, but it's not erotica. The issues it deals with are more adult, and very... Read More
