Book Description

After returning home from Romania, and successfully saving her best friend Lilly, Eden Matthews must now come to terms with her future as an Immortal. She is in love with the Crowned Prince, but he is betrothed to someone else.

Her family desperately wants her to join their rebellion, but that would mean fighting against her one, true love, Kiran Kendrick. She must fight off assassins that want her dead, an Immortal rite of passage that takes her to India and a deadly disease that no one has thus far survived. Danger seems to lurk around every corner as Eden Matthews struggles to keep her true identity a secret and protect those that she loves.

Eden must find a way to be with Kiran, or turn her back on him forever and fight to save her people. Hopeless Magic is the second installment of the Star-Crossed series.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Twists and turns are what this book is all about. Rachel knows what she is doing and her books are proof of that. I am addicted to her magic wielding characters and her crazy world she invented for them. --Mandy from I Read Indie book blog

This was a great second book. It had a more serious nature than the first, but i still could't put it down. It has a shocking ending that has you shedding a few tears and frustrated that you have to wait for the next book. I will recommend this book to everyone!

This series so far has not let me down! I love it! So far this is the best series in my whole kindle experience. I got the first book because it was free, and now I am hooked. This is the first book I have ever bothered to pay real money for since I started reading book off of my kindle and it was worth every cent. I can't wait till the next book comes out and I will gladly pay for that one as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book was so emotional for me! September 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well I must say that I am so surprised with this series..I downloaded the first book for free. I was caught up in this world and as I neared the end..I searched for the second book and bought it right away. I shamelessly dove right in immeidately! The second book just kept me up and down with emotions. I laughed, cried, was angry and hopeful so many times throughtout the book. I am not one to give spoilers but I just had to gush over this series and this author's talent. What a beautiful creation she has placed in front of all of us,to be swept into this world and feel the emotions, raw, from all of the characters..wow..Thank you!! I am anxiously awaiting the October release for book three!

3.0 out of 5 stars Put off October 1, 2012
By onetime
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed the last book.
However, with this one, I have been greatly put off already, and I have only read a few pages.
I got a bit miffed by the author referring to Silas (at the start of the book, unnamed) solely as "the black man."

Here's what that would look like if I flipped the coin:
The white author was very repetitive. The white author could not think up of a way to describe someone who was not white other than by skin color. The white author could have just said, "The man replied," or something to the effect, because we know who was meant. The white author could have chosen a nickname for the man, even if his real name was not to be known. However, the white author either chose not to, or else the matter did not even cross the white author's head. Maybe because the white author is from Nebraska and may not have had much experience with people from other backgrounds? I don't know. However, I do know that the white author should invest in a copy editor who can help edit repetitive phrases as well as catch a few minor punctuation blips in the white author's book.

And if you think I am being over-the-top with my sarcastic illustration of the author's writing technique, go back and read the first 6 pages of this book.

Hopefully, this intro will not put me off so much that I cannot get into the rest of the book. We'll see.

Update: I have finished reading the remainder of the book, and here's what I have to say:

I also thought that the section of the Indian trip wasn't very sensitive/representative. I'm not Indian, so I'm not going to say for sure. However, to me, it look like the author was very respectful of the culture but maybe a bit one-sided in presenting it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy freakin cow - BEST SERIES EVER September 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you are reading this review, then I am going to assume you have read the first book (Reckless Magic).

Reckless Magic was a GREAT start to this series. Now, with Hopeless Magic, the story continues to keep you captivated and second guessing who you want Eden to be with - Kiran or Jericho?

Here is the thing about the Star-Crossed Series - you cannot tell from the first book or the first 3/4 of the second book (Hopeless Magic) that this is actually a 'serious', almost grown-up, edge of your seat kind of story. Reckless Magic is very light and fun, high school kind of stuff, and that continues into Hopeless Magic. HOWEVER...this ALL changes at the end of Hopeless Magic. The story and feel of the story shifts, and you are left with your mouth gaping open, heart clenching, and practically tears escaping.

The emotions that you experience starting at the end of this book are so enthralling, that I would have practically done ANYTHING to begin reading the 3rd book, Fearless Magic, the moment I ended Hopeless Magic.

I 200% recommend reading this book, after Reckless Magic, and I don't even need to say continue reading the series with Fearless Magic and Endless Magic, because once you finish Hopeless, you will HAVE to keep reading.

You won't be disappointed - Rachel's way of writing and describing emotions is so amazing, you literally feel what the characters feel, and the overall story is SO unique, I can't help but feel so much respect for Rachel as a writer and her amazing mind. How did she come up with this story? It is SO freakin good!!! I just want everyone to read this series and see how superior it is to others like Twilight.
