5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner, to be sure
Carrie has done it again with Hope's Path. Not every story can sustain a sequel. Carrie has proven that the story of Lex and Amanda can, does and always will because those of us who read Destiny's Crossing will never tire of the tale.
This is well written, entirely believable and moving. I could not put it down and hurried to find the next sequel almost before...

2.0 out of 5 stars trite and dull
While the characters are charming, the plot is over the top. What really bugged me was the writing, especially the constant referal to the lovers as 'friends'. Not to mention the never ending 'honey' and 'sweetie'. The overdone plot would be forgiveable if the writing were not so agravating. Carrie, my friend, all I can say is you have another winner, to be sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much soap opera, October 21, 2001

Once again, Carr has the basis for a good story and ruins it with simplistic, repetitive language, plus you have to suspend your belief in the normal to accept this. These women would have to have the recuperative powers of Superman to survive the lives in this book and the one before it. How many times can someone be hit over the head, break ribs, break and sprain limbs and be poisoned and recover the next day? And their family members are unbelieveable. Based on these books (Destiny's Crossing is the first), why would any lesbian be afraid to come out to her family? To these people, having a lesbian lover is no problem at all as long as they love each other. Yeah, right. Lex meets the grandfather she's been estranged from for twenty-five years and, when he meets Amanda, in the next breath, all he has to do is adjust to the relationship. Lex and Amanda are two likeable characters, but I wouldn't want to be their insurance provider. And one could only hope that, in the real world, lesbians would find family members, friends and hospital staffs so willing to give them so much support. If you want to read a good story that suspends reality and never delivers a love scene more explicit than to say Lex kissed Amanda in a "sensitive spot", this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars More of the Same, but Enjoyable, February 1, 2002
This review is from: Hope's Path (Paperback)
This book tries very hard to be an action story of epic proportions while set in an every day America kind of place, with every day kind of people.

It also tries hard to deliver a romance of epic proportions while placing our two heroines in this every day world, surrounded by an extended family that, mostly, accepts them. ON this effort, the book delivers a more successful story. I found myself skipping the action sequences -- more contusions, more cuts, more hopping up the next day with nary a pain -- so I could read more about the relationship. Carr takes the story where very few romance plots go, to the moving in stage, the working out the problems stage. Yet, without those unbelievable action sequences, the story would be just more of the same.

I plan to read the next book in the series, though I can't quite figure out what exactly it is that doesn't satisfy. I think that the romance works much better than the Xena/Gabrielle uber level, and if it's going to be a romance, then I want more intimacy. If the uber elements are going to work better then I want less normal everyday world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Sequal to Destiny's Crossing, November 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Hope's Path (Paperback)
In a world where people are cynical and so few people believe in happy endings, Hope's Path shows that for some who are open to the possibilities, there can be happy endings for them. I enjoyed the tenderness that Lex and Amanda show each other. And as a lesbian who is in a lifelong commitment with the love of my life, I can honestly say that the characters feelings reflect the love and affection that my partner and I share. Even the families, some accepting and willing to adjust, and others who never will, are similar to my own experience. I refuse to be one of the jaded folk out there who abhor tenderness and affection in favor is dysfunction and cynicism. I'm happy to see that Carrie Carr feels the same way and has expressed that so lovingly in her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want more, June 3, 2001

This was a great sequel to Faith's and Destiny's Crossing. It was fun to see how Amanda and Lex handle living together. Their love is amazing, even under times when they are attacked by someone trying to break up their love. I seriously can't wait for the next one. I want them to start having kids. This is a great book. Carrie Carr does a great job with these characters and I hope there are many books to come. You should definitely read this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars boring and ridiculous, January 20, 2009
This review is from: Hope's Path (Paperback)
This book is horrible. The characters' relationship is not developed enough. There's too much focus on work, the ranch, and minor characters. There's not enough interaction between Lex and Amanda, the two main characters. Every time something exciting is about to happen in the story, there's some type of sudden interruption. Martha, one of the characters, almost always interrupts the special moments that are shared between Lex and Amanda. This is very annoying. This story is supposed to be about a powerful lesbian relationship, not about how many times Lex and Amanda's special moments can be interrupted by another character.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Love, October 5, 2007

Another of the classic series of lesbian literature, the Lex and Amanda series by Carrie Carr should be on every collector's bookshelf. I recently read and enjoyed - for the second time - the entire story. In this third in the series (following `Faith's Crossing'), Lex and Amanda have to deal against an unknown entity. They fight various battles, but there are so many individuals who may be guilty that they're not sure who they can trust.

Because of this wonderful series, Carrie Carr is one of the more widely-published authors in the genre. Lex and Amanda are easy to love and it's a joy to watch their relationship grow as the series develops.
